1 Samuel 31
1 And the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gelboe.
Los filisteos lucharon contra Israel, y los hombres de Israel huyeron de la presencia de los filisteos y cayeron muertos en el monte Gilboa.
2 And the Philistines fell upon Saul, and upon his sons, and they slew Jonathan, and Abinadab and Melchisua the sons of Saul.
Los filisteos alcanzaron a Saúl y a sus hijos, y los filisteos mataron a Jonatán, Abinadab y Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.
3 And the whole weight of the battle was turned upon Saul: and the archers overtook him, and he was grievously wounded by the archers.
La batalla fue dura contra Saúl, y los arqueros lo alcanzaron; y él se angustió mucho a causa de los arqueros.
4 Then Saul said to his armourbearer: Draw thy sword, and kill me: lest these uncircumcised come, and slay me, and mock at me. And his armourbearer would not: for he was struck with exceeding great fear. Then Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.
Entonces Saúl dijo a su escudero: “¡Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y me traspasen y abusen de mí!” Pero su escudero no quiso, porque estaba aterrorizado. Por lo tanto, Saúl tomó su espada y cayó sobre ella.
5 And when his armourbearer saw this, to wit, that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him.
Cuando su escudero vio que Saúl estaba muerto, también cayó sobre su espada y murió con él.
6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men that same day together.
Así murió Saúl con sus tres hijos, su escudero y todos sus hombres aquel mismo día.
7 And the men of Israel, that were beyond the valley, and beyond the Jordan, seeing that the Israelites were fled, and that Saul was dead, and his sons, forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came, and dwelt there.
Cuando los hombres de Israel que estaban al otro lado del valle, y los que estaban al otro lado del Jordán, vieron que los hombres de Israel huían y que Saúl y sus hijos estaban muertos, abandonaron las ciudades y huyeron, y los filisteos vinieron y vivieron en ellas.
8 And on the morrow the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his three sons lying in mount Gelboe.
Al día siguiente, cuando los filisteos fueron a despojar a los muertos, encontraron a Saúl y a sus tres hijos caídos en el monte Gilboa.
9 And they cut off Saul’s head, and stripped him of his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the temples of their idols, and among their people.
Le cortaron la cabeza, le despojaron de su armadura y enviaron a la tierra de los filisteos a todos los alrededores, para llevar la noticia a la casa de sus ídolos y al pueblo.
10 And they put his armour in the temple of Astaroth, but his body they hung on the wall of Bethsan.
Pusieron su armadura en la casa de Astarot, y sujetaron su cuerpo al muro de Bet Shan.
11 Now when the inhabitants of Jabes Galaad had heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
Cuando los habitantes de Jabes de Galaad se enteraron de lo que los filisteos le habían hecho a Saúl,
12 All the most valiant men arose, and walked all the night, and took the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Bethsan: and they came to Jabes Galaad, and burnt them there:
todos los hombres valientes se levantaron, fueron toda la noche y tomaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos de la muralla de Bet Shan; llegaron a Jabes y los quemaron allí.
13 And they took their bones and buried them in the wood of Jabes: and fasted seven days.
Tomaron sus huesos y los enterraron bajo el árbol de tamarisco en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.
