1 Samuel 23
1 And they told David, saying: Behold the Philistines fight against Ceila, and they rob the barns.
Et David reçut cet avis: Voilà que les Philistins ont attaqué Kéhila et ils pillent les aires.
2 Therefore David consulted the Lord, saying: Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said to David: Go, and thou shalt smite the Philistines, and shalt save Ceila.
Aussitôt David consulta l'Éternel en disant: Marcherai-je et porterai-je un coup à ces Philistins-là? Et l'Éternel dit à David: Marche et défais ces Philistins et dégage Kéhila.
3 And the men that were with David, said to him: Behold we are in fear here in Judea, how much more if we go to Ceila against the hands of the Philistines?
Mais les gens de David lui dirent: Voici, ici en Juda, nous sommes en crainte: ce seras bien pis, si nous marchons sur Kéhila contre les lignes des Philistins.
4 Therefore David consulted the Lord again. And he answered and said to him: Arise, and go to Ceila: for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hand.
Alors David de nouveau consulta l'Éternel, et l'Éternel lui fit cette réponse: En avant! fonds sur Kéhila, car je livre les Philistins à tes coups.
5 David therefore, and his men, went to Ceila, and fought against the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and made a great slaughter of them: and David saved the inhabitants of Ceila.
David avec ses gens marcha sur Kéhila, et il en vint aux mains avec les Philistins, et il emmena leurs troupeaux, et les mit en grande déroute, et ainsi, David délivra les habitants de Kéhila. –
6 Now at that time, when Abiathar the son of Achimelech fled to David to Ceila, he came down having an ephod with him.
Or quand Abiathar, fils d'Ahimélech, fugitif suivit David à Kéhila, il descendit ayant en main l'Ephod.
7 And it was told Saul that David was come to Ceila: and Saul said: The Lord hath delivered him into my hands, and he is shut up, being come into a city, that hath gates and bars.
Et Saül eut avis de l'arrivée de David à Kéhila et Saül dit: Dieu me le livre à discrétion, puisque par cette manière il s'est enfermé dans une place qui a portes et verrous.
8 And Saul commanded all the people to go down to fight against Ceila, and to besiege David, and his men.
Et Saül appela tout le peuple sous les armes pour opérer une descente sur Kéhila et cerner David et ses gens.
9 Now when David understood, that Saul secretly prepared evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest: Bring hither the ephod.
Et David s'étant aperçu que Saül machinait contre lui un mauvais coup, dit au Prêtre Abiathar: Apporte l'Ephod!
10 And David said: O Lord God of Israel, thy servant hath heard a report, that Saul designeth to come to Ceila, to destroy the city for my sake:
Et David dit: Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, ton serviteur apprend que Saül va tenter d'entrer dans Kéhila pour ruiner cette ville à mon occasion;
11 Will the men of Ceila deliver me into his hands? and will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O Lord God of Israel, tell thy servant. And the Lord said: He will come down.
les maîtres de Kéhila me mettront-ils à sa merci? Saül fera-t-il la descente, comme l'a ouï ton serviteur? Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, daigne en instruire ton serviteur! Et l'Éternel dit: Il la fera.
12 And David said: Will the men of Ceila deliver me, and my men, into the hands of Saul? And the Lord said: They will deliver thee up.
Et David dit: Les maîtres de Kéhila me mettront-ils moi et mes gens à la merci de Saül? Et l'Éternel dit: Ils t'y mettront.
13 Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose, and departing from Ceila, wandered up and down uncertain where they should stay: and it was told Saul that David was fled from Ceila, and had escaped: wherefore he forbore to go out.
Alors David se mit en mouvement avec sa troupe d'environ six cents hommes, et ils évacuèrent Kéhila, puis se mirent à errer à l'aventure. Et Saül informé que David s'était retiré de Kéhila, cessa de tenir la campagne.
14 But David abode in the desert in strong holds, and he remained in a mountain of the desert of Ziph, in a woody hill. And Saul sought him always: but the Lord delivered him not into his hands.
Et David resta dans le désert sur les hauteurs, et il stationna sur la montagne au désert de Ziph. Et Saül cherchait incessamment à l'atteindre, mais Dieu ne le laissa pas tomber entre ses mains.
15 And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life. And David was in the desert of Ziph, in a wood.
Et comme David voyait que Saül se mettait en campagne pour attenter à sa vie, et comme David était alors au désert de Ziph dans la Forêt.
16 And Jonathan the son of Saul arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hands in God: and he said to him:
Jonathan, fils de Saül, s'étant levé vint joindre David dans la Forêt et lui fit prendre courage en Dieu.
17 Fear not: for the hand of my father Saul shall not find thee, and thou shalt reign over Israel, and I shall be next to thee, yea, and my father knoweth this.
Et il lui dit: Sois sans crainte! tu ne seras pas atteint par la main de Saül, mon père, et c'est toi qui régneras sur Israël, et moi j'aurai le second rang après toi, et Saül, mon père, aussi le sait bien.
18 And the two made a covenant before the Lord: and David abode in the wood: but Jonathan returned to his house.
Et les deux ils solennisèrent un pacte devant l'Éternel, et David demeura dans la Forêt, et Jonathan retourna chez lui.
19 And the Ziphites went up to Saul in Gabaa, saying: Lo, doth not David lie hid with us in the strong holds of the wood, in mount Hachila, which is on the right hand of the desert.
Alors les Ziphites montèrent chez Saül à Gibea pour lui dire: Voilà que David s'est caché chez nous sur les hauteurs dans la Forêt, sur la colline de Hachila qui est au midi du désert.
20 Now therefore come down, as thy soul hath desired to come down: and it shall be our business to deliver him into the king’s hands.
Eh bien donc, ô Roi, puisque tout le désir de ton cœur est de descendre, descends! à nous de le livrer aux mains du Roi.
21 And Saul said: Blessed be ye of the Lord, for you have pitied my case.
Et Saül dit: Soyez les bénis de l'Éternel pour l'intérêt que vous prenez à moi!
22 Go therefore, I pray you, and use all diligence, and curiously inquire, and consider the place where his foot is, and who hath seen him there: for he thinketh of me, that I lie craftily in wait for him.
Allez donc et vous tenez mieux prêts encore, étudiez, voyez le lieu où son pied s'arrêtera et ceux qui l'y ont aperçu, car il m'a été dit qu'il est très fin.
23 Consider and see all his lurking holes, wherein he is bid, and return to me with the certainty of the thing, that I may go with you. And if be should even go down into the earth to hide himself, I will search him out in all the thousands of Juda.
Et regardez et le dépistez dans tous les recoins où il va se cacher, puis revenez vers moi avec du certain et je partirai avec vous. Et dans le cas où il serait dans le pays, pour l'avoir je fouillerai dans tous les milliers de Juda.
24 And they arose and went to Ziph before Saul: and David and his men were in the desert of Maon, in the plain at the right hand of Jesimon.
Là-dessus ils partirent et devancèrent Saül à Ziph. Cependant David et ses gens étaient au désert de Maon dans la plaine au midi du désert.
25 Then Saul and his men went to seek him: and it was told David, and forthwith he went down to the rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon: and when Saul had heard of it he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
Et Saül et ses hommes se mirent en route à sa recherche. Mais on informa David, et il descendit le rocher et il se tint dans le désert de Maon. A cette nouvelle Saül poursuivit David au désert de Maon.
26 And Saul went on this side of the mountain: and David and his men were on the other side of the mountain: and David despaired of being able to escape from the face of Saul: and Saul and his men encompassed David and his men round about to take them.
Et Saul se porta sur l'un des flancs de la montagne, tandis que David avec ses gens occupait l'autre flanc de la montagne. Et comme David faisait diligence pour se placer hors de la portée de Saül, et que Saül et ses hommes cernaient David et les siens pour se saisir de lui,
27 And a messenger came to Saul, saying: Make haste to come, for the Philistines have poured in themselves upon the land.
un messager vint à Saül avec cet avis viens en toute hâte, car les Philistins ont fait invasion dans le pays.
28 Wherefore Saul returned, leaving the pursuit of David, and went to meet the Philistines. For this cause they called that place, the Rock of division.
Aussitôt Saül renonçant à poursuivre David marcha à la rencontre des Philistins. C'est ce qui fit donner à ce lieu le nom de Sélah-Hammahelkoth (rocher des séparations).
29 Then David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds of Engaddi.
Et de là David s'éleva et se porta sur les hauteurs d'Enguedi.
