< 1 Peter 1 >

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers dispersed through Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect,
Peter, an emissary of Yeshua the Messiah, to the chosen ones who are living as foreigners in the Diaspora in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2 According to the foreknowledge of God the Father, unto the sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you and peace be multiplied.
according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, that you may obey Yeshua the Messiah and be sprinkled with his blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy hath regenerated us unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, who according to his great mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah from the dead,
4 Unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that can not fade, reserved in heaven for you,
to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn’t fade away, reserved in Heaven for you,
5 Who, by the power of God, are kept by faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.
who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 Wherein you shall greatly rejoice, if now you must be for a little time made sorrowful in divers temptations:
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved in various trials,
7 That the trial of your faith (much more precious than gold which is tried by the fire) may be found unto praise and glory and honour at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes, even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honour at the revelation of Yeshua the Messiah—
8 Whom having not seen, you love: in whom also now, though you see him not, you believe: and believing shall rejoice with joy unspeakable and glorified;
whom, not having known, you love. In him, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy that is unspeakable and full of glory,
9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
10 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and diligently searched, who prophesied of the grace to come in you.
Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently. They prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
11 Searching what or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ in them did signify: when it foretold those sufferings that are in Christ, and the glories that should follow:
searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Messiah which was in them pointed to when he predicted the sufferings of Messiah and the glories that would follow them.
12 To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you they ministered those things which are now declared to you by them that have preached the gospel to you, the Holy Ghost being sent down from heaven, on whom the angels desire to look.
To them it was revealed that they served not themselves, but you, in these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.
13 Wherefore having the loins of your mind girt up, being sober, trust perfectly in the grace which is offered you in the revelation of Jesus Christ,
Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Yeshua the Messiah—
14 As children of obedience, not fashioned according to the former desires of your ignorance:
as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,
15 But according to him that hath called you, who is holy, be you also in all manner of conversation holy:
but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behaviour,
16 Because it is written: You shall be holy, for I am holy.
because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
17 And if you invoke as Father him who, without respect of persons, judgeth according to every one’s work: converse in fear during the time of your sojourning here.
If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear,
18 Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things as gold or silver, from your vain conversation of the tradition of your fathers:
knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things like silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb unspotted and undefiled,
but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Messiah,
20 Foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but manifested in the last times for you,
who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake,
21 Who through him are faithful in God, who raised him up from the dead, and hath given him glory, that your faith and hope might be in God.
who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.
22 Purifying your souls in the obedience of charity, with a brotherly love, from a sincere heart love one another earnestly:
Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently,
23 Being born again not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible, by the word of God who liveth and remaineth for ever. (aiōn g165)
having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever. (aiōn g165)
24 For all flesh is as grass; and all the glory thereof as the flower of grass. The grass is withered, and the flower thereof is fallen away.
For, “All flesh is like grass, and all of man’s glory like the flower in the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls;
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel hath been preached unto you. (aiōn g165)
but the Lord’s word endures forever.” This is the word of Good News which was preached to you. (aiōn g165)
