1 Corinthians 1
1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes a brother,
Paul, appelé à être apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, et notre frère Sosthène,
2 To the church of God that is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that invoke the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, in every place of theirs and ours.
à l'assemblée de Dieu qui est à Corinthe, à ceux qui sont sanctifiés en Jésus-Christ, appelés saints, avec tous ceux qui invoquent le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, en tout lieu, chez eux et chez nous:
3 Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grâce et paix à vous, de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
4 I give thanks to my God always for you, for the grace of God that is given you in Christ Jesus,
Je rends toujours grâces à mon Dieu à votre sujet, pour la grâce de Dieu qui vous a été donnée en Jésus-Christ,
5 That in all things you are made rich in him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
afin que vous soyez enrichis en tout par lui, en toute parole et en toute connaissance,
6 As the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you,
comme le témoignage de Christ a été confirmé en vous,
7 So that nothing is wanting to you in any grace, waiting for the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
afin que vous ne soyez en retard d'aucun don, dans l'attente de la révélation de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ,
8 Who also will confirm you unto the end without crime, in the day of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
qui vous confirmera aussi jusqu'à la fin, irréprochables au jour de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
9 God is faithful: by whom you are called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Dieu est fidèle, celui par qui vous avez été appelés à la communion de son Fils, Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur.
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no schisms among you; but that you be perfect in the same mind, and in the same judgment.
Or, je vous prie, frères, par le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, de parler tous de la même chose, et qu'il n'y ait pas de divisions parmi vous, mais que vous soyez perfectionnés ensemble dans le même esprit et dans le même jugement.
11 For it hath been signified unto me, my brethren, of you, by them that are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
Car il m'a été rapporté à votre sujet, mes frères, par ceux de la maison de Chloé, qu'il y a des disputes parmi vous.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith: I indeed am of Paul; and I am of Apollo; and I am of Cephas; and I of Christ.
Or, je veux dire que chacun de vous dit: « Je suis Paul », « Je suis Apollos », « Je suis Céphas », et « Je suis le Christ ».
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul then crucified for you? or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
Le Christ est-il divisé? Paul a-t-il été crucifié pour vous? Ou bien avez-vous été baptisé au nom de Paul?
14 I give God thanks, that I baptized none of you but Crispus and Caius;
Je rends grâces à Dieu de ce que je n'ai baptisé aucun de vous, excepté Crispus et Gaïus,
15 Lest any should say that you were baptized in my name.
afin que personne ne puisse dire que je vous ai baptisés en mon propre nom.
16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanus; besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
(J'ai aussi baptisé la maison de Stéphanas; en dehors d'eux, je ne sais pas si j'en ai baptisé d'autres).
17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of speech, lest the cross of Christ should be made void.
Car ce n'est pas pour baptiser que Christ m'a envoyé, mais pour annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle, sans sagesse de mots, afin que la croix de Christ ne soit pas annulée.
18 For the word of the cross, to them indeed that perish, is foolishness; but to them that are saved, that is, to us, it is the power of God.
Car la parole de la croix est une folie pour ceux qui meurent, mais pour nous qui sommes sauvés, elle est une puissance de Dieu.
19 For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the prudence of the prudent I will reject.
Car il est écrit, « Je détruirai la sagesse des sages. Je réduirai à néant le discernement de ceux qui savent discerner. »
20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? (aiōn g165)
Où est le sage? Où est le scribe? Où est le discoureur de ce siècle? Dieu n'a-t-il pas rendu insensée la sagesse de ce monde? (aiōn g165)
21 For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world, by wisdom, knew not God, it pleased God, by the foolishness of our preaching, to save them that believe.
En effet, puisque, dans la sagesse de Dieu, le monde n'a pas connu Dieu, Dieu a voulu, par la folie de la prédication, sauver ceux qui croient.
22 For both the Jews require signs, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
Car les Juifs demandent des signes, les Grecs cherchent la sagesse,
23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews indeed a stumblingblock, and unto the Gentiles foolishness:
mais nous, nous prêchons Christ crucifié, pierre d'achoppement pour les Juifs et folie pour les Grecs,
24 But unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
mais pour ceux qui sont appelés, Juifs et Grecs, Christ est la puissance de Dieu et la sagesse de Dieu,
25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
car la folie de Dieu est plus sage que les hommes, et la faiblesse de Dieu est plus forte que les hommes.
26 For see your vocation, brethren, that there are not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble:
Car vous voyez votre vocation, frères, qu'il n'y a pas beaucoup de sages selon la chair, ni beaucoup de puissants, ni beaucoup de nobles;
27 But the foolish things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the wise; and the weak things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the strong.
mais Dieu a choisi les choses insensées du monde pour confondre les sages. Dieu a choisi les choses faibles du monde, pour couvrir de honte les choses fortes.
28 And the base things of the world, and the things that are contemptible, hath God chosen, and things that are not, that he might bring to nought things that are:
Dieu a choisi les choses humbles du monde, les choses méprisées, les choses qui n'existent pas, afin de réduire à néant les choses qui existent,
29 That no flesh should glory in his sight.
pour que nulle chair ne se glorifie devant Dieu.
30 But of him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and justice, and sanctification, and redemption:
C'est à cause de lui que vous êtes en Jésus-Christ, qui a été fait pour nous sagesse de Dieu, justice, sanctification et rédemption,
31 That, as it is written: He that glorieth, may glory in the Lord.
afin que, selon qu'il est écrit: « Que celui qui se glorifie se glorifie dans le Seigneur. »
