Proverbs 29
1 He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and without remedy.
[Viro qui corripientem dura cervice contemnit, repentinus ei superveniet interitus, et eum sanitas non sequetur.
2 When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
In multiplicatione justorum lætabitur vulgus; cum impii sumpserint principatum, gemet populus.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; but he that is a companion of harlots destroyeth [his] substance.
Vir qui amat sapientiam lætificat patrem suum; qui autem nutrit scorta perdet substantiam.
4 A king by just judgment establisheth the land; but he that taketh gifts overthroweth it.
Rex justus erigit terram; vir avarus destruet eam.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
Homo qui blandis fictisque sermonibus loquitur amico suo rete expandit gressibus ejus.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; but the righteous shall sing and rejoice.
Peccantem virum iniquum involvet laqueus, et justus laudabit atque gaudebit.
7 The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; the wicked understandeth not knowledge.
Novit justus causam pauperum; impius ignorat scientiam.
8 Scornful men set the city in a flame; but the wise turn away anger.
Homines pestilentes dissipant civitatem; sapientes vero avertunt furorem.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a fool, whether he rage or laugh, [he] hath no rest.
Vir sapiens si cum stulto contenderit, sive irascatur, sive rideat, non inveniet requiem.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the perfect, but the upright care for his soul.
Viri sanguinum oderunt simplicem; justi autem quærunt animam ejus.
11 A fool uttereth all his mind; but a wise [man] keepeth it back.
Totum spiritum suum profert stultus; sapiens differt, et reservat in posterum.
12 If a ruler hearken to lying words, all his servants are wicked.
Princeps qui libenter audit verba mendacii, omnes ministros habet impios.
13 The indigent and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.
Pauper et creditor obviaverunt sibi: utriusque illuminator est Dominus.
14 A king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
Rex qui judicat in veritate pauperes, thronus ejus in æternum firmabitur.]
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.
[Virga atque correptio tribuit sapientiam; puer autem qui dimittitur voluntati suæ confundit matrem suam.
16 When the wicked increase, transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall see their fall.
In multiplicatione impiorum multiplicabuntur scelera, et justi ruinas eorum videbunt.
17 Chasten thy son, and he shall give thee rest, and shall give delight unto thy soul.
Erudi filium tuum, et refrigerabit te, et dabit delicias animæ tuæ.
18 Where there is no vision the people cast off restraint; but happy is he that keepeth the law.
Cum prophetia defecerit, dissipabitur populus; qui vero custodit legem beatus est.
19 A servant is not corrected by words: he understandeth indeed, but he will not answer.
Servus verbis non potest erudiri, quia quod dicis intelligit, et respondere contemnit.
20 Hast thou seen a man hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
Vidisti hominem velocem ad loquendum? stultitia magis speranda est quam illius correptio.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child, shall in the end have him as a son.
Qui delicate a pueritia nutrit servum suum postea sentiet eum contumacem.]
22 An angry man exciteth contention; and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
[Vir iracundus provocat rixas, et qui ad indignandum facilis est erit ad peccandum proclivior.
23 A man's pride bringeth him low; but the humble in spirit shall obtain honour.
Superbum sequitur humilitas, et humilem spiritu suscipiet gloria.
24 Whoso shareth with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration, and declareth not.
Qui cum fure participat odit animam suam; adjurantem audit, et non indicat.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his confidence in Jehovah is protected.
Qui timet hominem cito corruet; qui sperat in Domino sublevabitur.
26 Many seek the ruler's face; but a man's right judgment is from Jehovah.
Multi requirunt faciem principis, et judicium a Domino egreditur singulorum.
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; and he that is of upright way is an abomination to the wicked [man].
Abominantur justi virum impium, et abominantur impii eos qui in recta sunt via. Verbum custodiens filius extra perditionem erit.]
