Proverbs 22
1 A [good] name is rather to be chosen than great riches; loving favour rather than silver and gold.
Danh thơm tiếng tốt hơn giàu có; còn ân huệ quý hơn bạc vàng.
2 The rich and poor meet together; Jehovah is the maker of them all.
Chúa Hằng Hữu tạo nên người nghèo lẫn người giàu, dưới mắt Ngài, họ chẳng khác gì nhau.
3 A prudent [man] seeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
Người khôn tránh né nguy nan. Người dại đâm đầu hướng tới họa tai.
4 The reward of humility [and] the fear of Jehovah is riches, and honour, and life.
Ai kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu và khiêm nhường được hưởng danh dự, công lý, và trường thọ.
5 Thorns [and] snares are in the way of the perverse: he that keepeth his soul holdeth himself far from them.
Trên đường người gian tà đầy gai góc và cạm bẫy; người muốn giữ hồn mình phải tránh cho xa.
6 Train up the child according to the tenor of his way, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Dạy trẻ thơ nẻo chính đường ngay, cho dù đến già, nó chẳng đổi thay.
7 The rich ruleth over the poor; and the borrower is servant to the lender.
Giàu cai trị nghèo, người vay làm nô lệ cho người cho vay.
8 He that soweth unrighteousness shall reap iniquity, and the rod of his wrath shall have an end.
Người gieo bất công sẽ gặt tai họa, cây gậy thịnh nộ của nó chắc sẽ tiêu tan.
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed, for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
Ai rộng lòng nuôi dưỡng người cơ cực sẽ luôn hưởng được nhiều phước dồi dào.
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention will depart, and strife and ignominy shall cease.
Đuổi người kiêu cường đi, xung đột sẽ dứt. Cũng không còn những tiếng cãi cọ xấu xa.
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, upon whose lips is grace, the king is his friend.
Lòng trong sạch, môi thanh nhã, đức tính ấy, làm bạn của vua.
12 The eyes of Jehovah preserve knowledge; but he overthroweth the words of the unfaithful.
Chúa Hằng Hữu bảo vệ người thông sáng, người dối gian bị Chúa tảo trừ.
13 The sluggard saith, There is a lion without, I shall be killed in the streets!
Người lười nói: “Sư tử ngoài kia! Nếu ra ngoài, ta sẽ bị giết!”
14 The mouth of strange women is a deep ditch: he with whom Jehovah is displeased shall fall therein.
Miệng dâm phụ là cái hố sâu; chôn vùi người Chúa Hằng Hữu nguyền rủa.
15 Folly is bound in the heart of a child; the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Nghiêm trị, răn dạy trẻ thơ, giải thoát lòng chúng khỏi điều khờ dại.
16 He that oppresseth the poor, it is to enrich him; he that giveth to the rich, [bringeth] only to want.
Làm giàu bằng cách bóc lột người nghèo hay bằng hối lộ, đều đưa đến túng thiếu cơ hàn.
17 Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart unto my knowledge.
Con lắng tai nghe lời khôn sáng; mở lòng con đón nhận tri thức ta.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee: they shall be together fitted on thy lips.
Con sẽ vui thích khi giữ nó trong lòng, và tập trung nó trên đôi môi con.
19 That thy confidence may be in Jehovah, I have made [them] known to thee this day, even to thee.
Ngày nay ta đã dạy cho con biết điều đó, để con đặt hết niềm tin vào Chúa Hằng Hữu.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things, in counsels and knowledge,
Ta há chẳng viết cho con ba mươi lần, trình bày lời khuyên dạy và tri thức.
21 that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest carry back words of truth to them that send thee?
Để con tiếp nhận lời chân thật, và đem lời đó về cho người sai phái con.
22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither oppress the afflicted in the gate;
Đừng bóc lột người nghèo vì họ túng quẫn, cũng đừng áp bức người khốn khổ nơi tòa.
23 for Jehovah will plead their cause, and despoil the soul of those that despoil them.
Vì Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ đứng ra bênh vực. Ngài sẽ diệt trừ những ai ức hiếp họ.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man, and go not with a furious man;
Thấy ai giận, con đừng phụ họa, khi người nổi nóng, con đừng tiếp tay,
25 lest thou learn his paths, and get a snare to thy soul.
để con khỏi học tính nóng nảy và làm hại cho linh hồn con.
26 Be not of them that strike hands, of them that are sureties for debts:
Chớ như người ra tay bảo đảm hoặc bảo lãnh nợ cho ai.
27 if thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
Vì nếu con không có gì để trả thì chủ nợ sẽ xiết cả đến cái giường của con.
28 Remove not the ancient landmark which thy fathers have set.
Chớ dời ranh giới cũ do tổ phụ thiết lập.
29 Hast thou seen a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before the mean.
Con có thấy người nào cần mẫn trong việc mình không? Người ấy sẽ phục vụ trước các vua, chứ không phải trước người tầm thường đâu.
