Philippians 2

1 If then [there be] any comfort in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of [the] Spirit, if any bowels and compassions,

Si donc il existe quelque consolation en Christ, s'il existe quelque soulagement de la charité, s'il existe quelque union d'esprit, s'il existe quelque tendresse et quelques compassions,

2 fulfil my joy, that ye may think the same thing, having the same love, joined in soul, thinking one thing;

rendez ma joie parfaite, afin d'être animés du même sentiment, ayant la même charité, formant une seule âme, étant animés d'un seul et même sentiment,

3 [let] nothing [be] in the spirit of strife or vain glory, but, in lowliness of mind, each esteeming the other as more excellent than themselves;

et d'aucun de ceux qu'inspirent l'intrigue et la vaine gloire, mais regardant réciproquement les autres par humilité comme supérieurs à vous-mêmes,

4 regarding not each his own [qualities], but each those of others also.

ne songeant point chacun à vos propres intérêts, mais chacun aussi à ceux des autres.

5 For let this mind be in you which [was] also in Christ Jesus;

Soyez animés au dedans de vous des sentiments dont fut aussi animé Christ Jésus,

6 who, subsisting in the form of God, did not esteem it an object of rapine to be on an equality with God;

lequel, existant en forme de Dieu, n'a pas considéré comme une proie l'égalité avec Dieu,

7 but emptied himself, taking a bondman's form, taking his place in [the] likeness of men;

mais s'est dépouillé lui-même, en prenant une forme d'esclave, en naissant d'une manière semblable aux hommes;

8 and having been found in figure as a man, humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, and [that the] death of [the] cross.

et, après avoir été trouvé, quant à l'apparence, semblable à un homme, il s'est humilié lui-même en se montrant obéissant jusques à mourir, à mourir même sur une croix;

9 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and granted him a name, that which is above every name,

c'est pourquoi aussi Dieu l'a haut élevé, et lui a octroyé le nom qui est au-dessus de toute espèce de nom,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of heavenly and earthly and infernal [beings],

afin qu'au nom de Jésus tout genou fléchisse dans les cieux, sur la terre, et sous la terre,

11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord to God [the] Father's glory.

et que toute langue confesse que Jésus-Christ est Seigneur, à la gloire de Dieu le Père.

12 So that, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much rather in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,

Ainsi, mes bien-aimés, comme vous avez toujours obéi, que ce ne soit pas seulement en ma présence, mais bien plus encore maintenant en mon absence, que vous travailliez à votre propre salut avec crainte et tremblement,

13 for it is God who works in you both the willing and the working according to [his] good pleasure.

car c'est Dieu qui effectue en vous, et la volonté, et l'action, d'après Son bon plaisir.

14 Do all things without murmurings and reasonings,

Faites toutes choses sans murmures ni hésitations,

15 that ye may be harmless and simple, irreproachable children of God in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation; among whom ye appear as lights in [the] world,

afin de devenir irréprochables et purs, des enfants de Dieu irrépréhensibles au milieu d'une génération pervertie et corrompue, parmi laquelle vous brillez comme des luminaires dans le monde,

16 holding forth [the] word of life, so as to be a boast for me in Christ's day, that I have not run in vain nor laboured in vain.

en portant avec vous la parole de vie, ce qui sera pour moi un motif de m'enorgueillir, lors de la journée de Christ, de n'avoir ni couru en vain, ni travaillé en vain.

17 But if also I am poured out as a libation on the sacrifice and ministration of your faith, I rejoice, and rejoice in common with you all.

Mais, dussé-je servir de libation en officiant dans le sacrifice de votre foi, je m'en réjouis, et je suis dans la joie avec vous tous;

18 In like manner do ye also rejoice, and rejoice with me.

vous aussi, réjouissez-vous de même, et soyez avec moi dans la joie.

19 But I hope in [the] Lord Jesus to send Timotheus to you shortly, that I also may be refreshed, knowing how ye get on.

Or, j'espère dans le Seigneur Jésus vous envoyer incessamment Timothée, afin que, moi aussi, je reprenne courage en apprenant ce qui vous concerne;

20 For I have no one like-minded who will care with genuine feeling how ye get on.

car je n'ai ici personne qui, sentant de même, puisse prendre véritablement souci de ce qui vous concerne;

21 For all seek their own things, not the things of Jesus Christ.

tous, en effet, ils recherchent leurs propres intérêts, et non ceux de Christ Jésus;

22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child a father, he has served with me in the work of the glad tidings.

mais, quant à lui, vous savez qu'il a été mis à l'épreuve, en s'assujettissant avec moi, comme un enfant sous son père, au service de l'Évangile.

23 Him therefore I hope to send immediately, as soon as I shall see how it goes with me:

C'est donc lui que j'espère vous envoyer, aussitôt que j'aurai pu juger de la tournure de mes affaires.

24 but I trust in [the] Lord that I myself also shall soon come;

Or, j'ai la confiance dans le Seigneur que, de mon côté aussi, j'arriverai incessamment.

25 but I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow-workman and fellow-soldier, but your messenger and minister to my need,

En attendant, j'ai cru nécessaire de vous expédier Épaphrodite, mon frère, mon compagnon d'œuvre et de combat, que vous aviez député pour pourvoir à mes besoins,

26 since he had a longing desire after you all, and was distressed because ye had heard that he was sick;

car il soupirait après vous tous, et il se désespérait de ce que vous aviez ouï dire qu'il avait été malade;

27 for he was also sick close to death, but God had mercy on him, and not indeed on him alone, but also on me, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow.

et en effet il a été malade à la mort; mais Dieu a eu compassion de lui, et non seulement de lui, mais aussi de moi, afin que je n'eusse pas tristesse sur tristesse.

28 I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that seeing him ye might again rejoice, and that I might be the less sorrowful.

J'ai donc mis d'autant plus d'empressement à l'envoyer; afin que, en le voyant, vous redeveniez joyeux, et que, moi-même, je sois moins triste.

29 Receive him therefore in [the] Lord with all joy, and hold such in honour;

Accueillez-le donc dans le Seigneur avec une joie entière, et honorez ceux qui lui ressemblent,

30 because for the sake of the work he drew near even to death, venturing his life that he might fill up what lacked in your ministration toward me.

car c'est pour l'œuvre de Christ qu'il a été à la mort, en exposant sa vie afin de suppléer à votre absence dans le service qui m'était rendu.
