Nehemiah 13
1 On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and there was found written in it that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;
Als an jenem Tage dem Volke aus dem Buch des mosaischen Gesetzes laut vorgelesen wurde, fand sich darin geschrieben, daß kein Ammoniter und kein Moabiter jemals Aufnahme in die Gemeinde Gottes finden dürfe,
2 because they had not met the children of Israel with bread and with water, and had hired Balaam against them, to curse them; but our God turned the curse into blessing.
weil sie den Israeliten nicht mit Brot und Wasser entgegengekommen waren und (ihr König) den Bileam gegen sie in Sold genommen hatte, damit er sie verfluche; allerdings hatte unser Gott den Fluch in Segen verwandelt.
3 And it came to pass, when they heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.
Als sie nun das Gesetz vernommen hatten, sonderten sie alles Mischvolk aus Israel aus.
4 And before this, Eliashib the priest, who had the oversight of the chambers of the house of our God, a kinsman of Tobijah,
Vordem aber hatte der Priester Eljasib, dem die Aufsicht über die Zellen des Hauses unsers Gottes übertragen war, ein Verwandter Tobijas,
5 had prepared for him a great chamber, where formerly they laid the oblations, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine and the oil, which was commanded for the Levites and the singers and the doorkeepers, and the heave-offerings of the priests.
diesem eine große Zelle eingeräumt, in der man früher die Speisopfer, den Weihrauch, die Geräte und den Zehnten vom Getreide, Wein und Öl untergebracht hatte, die Anteile, die den Leviten, den Sängern und den Torhütern zukamen, sowie die Abgaben an die Priester.
6 And during all that [time] I was not at Jerusalem; for in the two-and-thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I came to the king; and after some time I obtained leave of the king.
Während aber dies alles vor sich ging, war ich nicht in Jerusalem anwesend gewesen, sondern hatte mich im zweiunddreißigsten Regierungsjahre Arthasasthas, des Königs von Babylon, an den königlichen Hof begeben. Als ich mir dann nach einiger Zeit wieder Urlaub vom Könige erbeten hatte
7 And I came to Jerusalem, and observed the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobijah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.
und wieder nach Jerusalem gekommen war, entdeckte ich den Unfug, den Eljasib dem Tobija zuliebe verübt hatte, indem er ihm eine Zelle in den Vorhöfen des Hauses Gottes eingeräumt hatte.
8 And it grieved me much, and I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobijah out of the chamber.
Dies erregte solchen Unwillen in mir, daß ich allen Hausrat Tobijas aus der Zelle hinauswerfen ließ
9 And I commanded, and they purified the chambers; and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, the oblation and the frankincense.
und den Befehl gab, man solle die Zelle reinigen; darauf ließ ich dort wieder die Geräte des Hauses Gottes, das Speisopfer und den Weihrauch unterbringen.
10 And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given, and that the Levites and the singers that did the work had fled every one to his field.
Als ich dann erfuhr, daß man den Leviten die ihnen zukommenden Anteile nicht geliefert hatte und daß infolgedessen die Leviten und die Sänger, die den heiligen Dienst zu verrichten hatten, sich alle auf ihre ländlichen Besitzungen entfernt hatten,
11 Then I contended with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together and set them in their place.
da stellte ich die Vorsteher zur Rede und fragte sie, warum das Haus Gottes so verwahrlost worden sei. Darauf ließ ich die betreffenden Leute wieder zusammenholen und stellte sie wieder auf ihre Posten.
12 And all Judah brought the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil into the storehouses.
Als dann ganz Juda die Zehnten vom Getreide, Wein und Öl in die Vorratskammern gebracht hatte,
13 And I made storekeepers over the storehouses: Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah; and subordinate to them, Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah; for they were esteemed faithful, and their office was to distribute to their brethren.
übertrug ich die Aufsicht über die Vorräte dem Priester Selemja und dem Schriftgelehrten Zadok und von den Leviten dem Pedaja und bestellte zu ihrer Unterstützung Hanan, den Sohn Sakkurs, des Sohnes Matthanjas; denn sie galten als zuverlässige Männer, und ihnen oblag es nunmehr, die Austeilung an ihre Genossen vorzunehmen.
14 Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds which I have done for the house of my God, and for the charges thereof!
Gedenke mir dies, mein Gott, und laß die Wohltaten, die ich dem Hause meines Gottes und seiner Dienerschaft erwiesen habe, nicht in Vergessenheit geraten!
15 In those days I saw in Judah some treading winepresses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading them on asses; as also wine, grapes and figs, and all manner of burdens; and they brought them into Jerusalem on the sabbath day; and I protested in the day on which they sold the victuals.
Zu derselben Zeit sah ich in Juda Leute, die am Sabbat die Kelter traten und Getreide vom Felde einbrachten und Esel damit beluden, auch Wein, Trauben, Feigen und andere Ladungen aller Art aufpackten und sie am Sabbattage nach Jerusalem hereinbrachten. Ich verwarnte sie also an dem Tage, an welchem sie die Lebensmittel feilboten.
16 Men of Tyre also dwelt therein, who brought fish and all manner of ware, and sold it on the sabbath to the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.
Auch die Tyrier, die im Lande wohnten, brachten Fische und allerlei andere Waren herein und verkauften sie am Sabbat an die Juden in Jerusalem.
17 And I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said to them, What evil thing is this which ye do, profaning the sabbath day?
Da stellte ich die vornehmen Juden zur Rede und hielt ihnen vor: »Was ist das für eine böse Sache, die ihr da tut, daß ihr den Sabbattag entheiligt!
18 Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us and upon this city? And ye will bring more wrath against Israel by profaning the sabbath.
Haben nicht eure Väter ebenso getan, und hat nicht unser Gott eben deswegen all dieses Unglück über uns und diese Stadt ergehen lassen? Wollt ihr denn noch größeren Zorn über Israel bringen, indem ihr den Sabbattag entweiht?«
19 And it came to pass, that when it began to be dark in the gates of Jerusalem before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut; and I commanded that they should not be opened till after the sabbath. And I set [some] of my servants at the gates, so that no burden should be brought in on the sabbath day.
Sobald es nun am Vorabend des Sabbats (auf den Marktplätzen) an den Toren Jerusalems dunkel wurde, ließ ich die Tore schließen und gab Befehl, sie erst nach Ablauf des Sabbats wieder zu öffnen; auch stellte ich einige von meinen Leuten an den Toren auf, damit keine Last am Sabbattag hereinkäme.
20 And the dealers and sellers of all kind of ware passed the night without Jerusalem once or twice.
Nun mußten die Händler und Verkäufer von Waren aller Art die Nacht ein- oder zweimal draußen vor der Stadt zubringen.
21 And I testified against them, and said to them, Why do ye pass the night before the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth they came not on the sabbath.
Darauf verwarnte ich sie mit den Worten: »Wozu haltet ihr euch während der Nacht vor der Mauer auf? Wenn ihr das noch einmal tut, werde ich euch festnehmen lassen!« Von dieser Zeit an kamen sie am Sabbat nicht wieder.
22 And I commanded the Levites that they should purify themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to hallow the sabbath day. Remember this also for me, my God, and spare me according to thy great loving-kindness!
Darauf befahl ich den Leviten, sie sollten sich reinigen und die Bewachung der Tore übernehmen, damit der Sabbattag heilig gehalten würde. Auch das gedenke mir, mein Gott, und übe Gnade an mir nach deiner großen Güte!
23 In those days also I saw Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, [and] of Moab.
Ebenfalls in jenen Tagen sah ich mich nach den Juden um, welche asdoditische, ammonitische und moabitische Frauen geheiratet hatten.
24 And their children spoke half in the language of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.
Deren Kinder redeten nämlich zur Hälfte asdoditisch und konnten nicht mehr jüdisch sprechen, sondern verstanden nur die Sprache des betreffenden Volkes.
25 And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them and plucked off their hair, and adjured them by God [saying], Ye shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.
Da machte ich den Männern schwere Vorwürfe, fluchte ihnen, schlug einige von ihnen, zauste sie am Bart und beschwor sie bei Gott: »Ihr dürft eure Töchter durchaus nicht den Söhnen jener zu Frauen geben und dürft von den Töchtern jener keine für eure Söhne oder für euch selbst zu Frauen nehmen!
26 Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among the many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel; but even him did foreign wives cause to sin.
Hat sich nicht Salomo, der König von Israel, gerade um solcher Frauen willen zur Sünde verleiten lassen? Zwar hat es unter den vielen Völkern keinen König wie ihn gegeben, und er war ein Liebling seines Gottes, so daß Gott ihn zum König über ganz Israel machte; aber sogar ihn haben die ausländischen Frauen zur Sünde verleitet.
27 And should we hearken to you to do all this great evil, to act unfaithfully to our God by marrying foreign wives?
Und nun müssen wir von euch hören, daß ihr all dieses große Unrecht begeht, durch Verheiratung mit ausländischen Frauen treulos gegen unsern Gott zu handeln!«
28 And [one] of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite; and I chased him from me.
Und einer von den Söhnen des Hohepriesters Jojada, des Sohnes Eljasibs, hatte sich mit einer Tochter des Horoniters Sanballat verheiratet; den entfernte ich aus meiner Umgebung.
29 Remember them, my God, for they are polluters of the priesthood, and of the covenant of the priesthood and of the Levites!
Gedenke ihnen, mein Gott, ihre vielfache Entweihung des Priestertums und des Bundes, den du mit der Priesterschaft und mit den Leviten geschlossen hast!
30 And I purified them from all foreigners, and appointed the charges of the priests and the Levites, every one in his service;
So habe ich sie von allem ausländischen Wesen gereinigt und die Dienstleistungen der Priester und der Leviten fest geordnet, für jeden einzelnen bezüglich seiner Amtspflichten,
31 and for the wood-offering, at times appointed, and for the first-fruits. Remember me, O my God, for good!
auch für die Lieferung von Brennholz zu den festgesetzten Zeiten und für die Erstlingsgaben (habe ich Sorge getragen). Gedenke mir das, mein Gott, (und rechne es mir an) zum Guten!
