Matthew 5
1 But seeing the crowds, he went up into the mountain, and having sat down, his disciples came to him;
Y viendo Jesús las multitudes, subió a un monte; y sentándose él, se llegaron a él sus discípulos.
2 and, having opened his mouth, he taught them, saying,
Y abriendo él su boca, les enseñaba, diciendo:
3 Blessed [are] the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.
Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu; porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.
4 Blessed they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Bienaventurados los tristes; porque ellos recibirán consolación.
5 Blessed the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Bienaventurados los mansos; porque ellos recibirán la tierra por heredad.
6 Blessed they who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia; porque ellos serán hartos.
7 Blessed the merciful, for they shall find mercy.
Bienaventurados los misericordiosos; porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia.
8 Blessed the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón; porque ellos verán a Dios.
9 Blessed the peace-makers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Bienaventurados los pacificadores; porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.
10 Blessed they who are persecuted on account of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.
Bienaventurados los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia; porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.
11 Blessed are ye when they may reproach and persecute you, and say every wicked thing against you, lying, for my sake.
Bienaventurados sois, cuando os maldijeren, y os persiguieren, y dijeren de vosotros todo mal por mi causa, mintiendo.
12 Rejoice and exult, for your reward is great in the heavens; for thus have they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Regocijáos y alegráos; porque vuestro galardón es grande en los cielos; que así persiguieron a los profetas que fueron antes de vosotros.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth; but if the salt have become insipid, wherewith shall it be salted? It is no longer fit for anything but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot by men.
Vosotros sois la sal de la tierra; y si la sal perdiere su sabor, ¿con qué será salada? no vale más para nada; sino que sea echada fuera, y sea hollada de los hombres.
14 Ye are the light of the world: a city situated on the top of a mountain cannot be hid.
Vosotros sois la luz del mundo. La ciudad asentada sobre el monte no se puede esconder.
15 Nor do [men] light a lamp and put it under the bushel, but upon the lamp-stand, and it shines for all who are in the house.
Ni se enciende la luz, y se pone debajo de un almud, sino en el candelero, y alumbra a todos los que están en casa.
16 Let your light thus shine before men, so that they may see your upright works, and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.
Así pues alumbre vuestra luz delante de los hombres, para que vean vuestras obras buenas, y glorifiquen a vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.
17 Think not that I am come to make void the law or the prophets; I am not come to make void, but to fulfil.
No penséis que he venido para invalidar la ley, o los profetas: no he venido para invalidar los, sino para cumplir los.
18 For verily I say unto you, Until the heaven and the earth pass away, one iota or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all come to pass.
Porque de cierto os digo, que hasta que perezca el cielo y la tierra, ni una jota, ni un tilde perecerá de la ley, sin que todas las cosas sean cumplidas.
19 Whosoever then shall do away with one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of the heavens; but whosoever shall practise and teach [them], he shall be called great in the kingdom of the heavens.
De manera que cualquiera que quebrantare uno de estos mandamientos muy pequeños, y así enseñare a los hombres, muy pequeño será llamado en el reino de los cielos; mas cualquiera que los hiciere, y enseñare, éste será llamado grande en el reino de los cielos.
20 For I say unto you, that unless your righteousness surpass [that] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of the heavens.
Porque yo os digo, que si vuestra justicia no fuere mayor que la de los escribas y de los Fariseos, no entraréis en el reino de los cielos.
21 Ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not kill; but whosoever shall kill shall be subject to the judgment.
Oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos: No matarás; mas cualquiera que matare, estará expuesto a juicio.
22 But I say unto you, that every one that is lightly angry with his brother shall be subject to the judgment; but whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be subject to [be called before] the sanhedrim; but whosoever shall say, Fool, shall be subject to the penalty of the hell of fire. Yo pues os digo, que cualquiera que se enojare sin razón con su hermano, estará expuesto a juicio; y cualquiera que dijere a su hermano: Raca, estará expuesto al concilio; y cualquiera que a su hermano dijere: Insensato, estará expuesto al fuego del infierno. (Geenna g1067)
23 If therefore thou shouldest offer thy gift at the altar, and there shouldest remember that thy brother has something against thee,
Por tanto si trajeres tu presente al altar, y allí te acordares, que tu hermano tiene algo contra ti,
24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and first go, be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Deja allí tu presente delante del altar, y vé: vuelve primero en amistad con tu hermano, y entonces vé, y ofrece tu presente.
25 Make friends with thine adverse party quickly, whilst thou art in the way with him; lest some time the adverse party deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
Pónte de acuerdo con tu adversario presto, entre tanto que estás con él en el camino; porque no acontezca que el adversario te entregue al juez, y el juez te entregue al ministro; y seas echado en prisión.
26 Verily I say to thee, Thou shalt in no wise come out thence till thou hast paid the last farthing.
De cierto te digo, que no saldrás de allí, hasta que pagues el postrer cornado.
27 Ye have heard that it has been said, Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos: No cometerás adulterio:
28 But I say unto you, that every one who looks upon a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Yo pues os digo, que cualquiera que mira a una mujer para codiciarla, ya adulteró con ella en su corazón.
29 But if thy right eye be a snare to thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
Por tanto si tu ojo derecho te fuere ocasión de caer, sácale, y échale de ti; que mejor te es, que se pierda uno de tus miembros, que no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno. (Geenna g1067)
30 And if thy right hand be a snare to thee, cut it off and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
Y si tu mano derecha te fuere ocasión de caer, córtala, y échala de ti: que mejor te es, que se pierda uno de tus miembros, que no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno. (Geenna g1067)
31 It has been said too, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a letter of divorce.
También fue dicho: Cualquiera que despidiere a su mujer, déle carta de divorcio.
32 But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for cause of fornication, makes her commit adultery, and whosoever marries one that is put away commits adultery.
Mas yo os digo, que el que despidiere a su mujer, a no ser por causa de fornicación, hace que ella adultere; y el que se casare con la despedida, comete adulterio.
33 Again, ye have heard that it has been said to the ancients, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt render to the Lord what thou hast sworn.
También oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos: No te perjurarás; mas cumplirás al Señor tus juramentos.
34 But I say unto you, Do not swear at all; neither by the heaven, because it is [the] throne of God;
Yo pues os digo: No juréis en ninguna manera; ni por el cielo, porque es el trono de Dios;
35 nor by the earth, because it is [the] footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, because it is [the] city of the great King.
Ni por la tierra, porque es el estrado de sus pies; ni por Jerusalem, porque es la ciudad del gran Rey.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
Ni por tu cabeza jurarás; porque no puedes hacer un cabello blanco o negro.
37 But let your word be Yea, yea; Nay, nay; but what is more than these is from evil.
Mas sea vuestro hablar, Sí, sí: No, no; porque lo que es más de esto, de mal procede.
38 Ye have heard that it has been said, Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.
Oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos: Ojo por ojo; y diente por diente:
39 But I say unto you, not to resist evil; but whoever shall strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other;
Mas yo os digo: que no resistáis al mal: antes a cualquiera que te hiriere en tu mejilla derecha, vuélvele también la otra.
40 and to him that would go to law with thee and take thy body coat, leave him thy cloak also.
Y al que quisiere ponerte a pleito, y tomarte tu ropa, déjale también la capa.
41 And whoever will compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.
Y a cualquiera que te forzare a ir una milla, ve con él dos.
42 To him that asks of thee give, and from him that desires to borrow of thee turn not away.
Al que te pidiere, dále; y al que quisiere tomar de ti prestado, no le rehúses.
43 Ye have heard that it has been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy.
Oísteis que fue dicho: Amarás a tu prójimo; y aborrecerás a tu enemigo.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, [bless those who curse you, ] do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who [insult you and] persecute you,
Yo pues os digo: Amád a vuestros enemigos: bendecíd a los que os maldicen: hacéd bien a los que os aborrecen, y orád por los que os calumnian y os persiguen;
45 that ye may be [the] sons of your Father who is in [the] heavens; for he makes his sun rise on evil and good, and sends rain on just and unjust.
Para que seáis hijos de vuestro Padre que está en los cielos: que hace que su sol salga sobre malos y buenos; y llueve sobre justos e injustos.
46 For if ye should love those who love you, what reward have ye? Do not also the tax-gatherers the same?
Porque si amareis a los que os aman, ¿qué galardón tendréis? ¿No hacen también lo mismo los publicanos?
47 And if ye should salute your brethren only, what do ye extraordinary? Do not also the Gentiles the same?
Y si saludareis a vuestros hermanos solamente, ¿qué hacéis de más? ¿No hacen también así los publicanos?
48 Be ye therefore perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Sed pues vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto.
