Matthew 5
1 But seeing the crowds, he went up into the mountain, and having sat down, his disciples came to him;
Or, lorsqu'il vit cette foule, il monta sur la montagne, et, après qu'il se fut assis, ses disciples s'approchèrent,
2 and, having opened his mouth, he taught them, saying,
et ayant ouvert la bouche, il les instruisait en disant:
3 Blessed [are] the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.
« Heureux les pauvres d'esprit, car c'est à eux qu'appartient le royaume des cieux.
4 Blessed they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Heureux les affligés, car c'est eux qui seront consolés.
5 Blessed the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Heureux ceux qui sont doux, car c'est eux qui hériteront la terre.
6 Blessed they who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
« Heureux ceux qui sont affamés et altérés de la justice, car c'est eux qui seront rassasiés.
7 Blessed the merciful, for they shall find mercy.
Heureux les miséricordieux, car c'est à eux qu'il sera fait miséricorde.
8 Blessed the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Heureux ceux qui sont purs de cœur, car c'est eux qui verront Dieu.
9 Blessed the peace-makers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Heureux ceux qui procurent la paix, car c'est eux qui seront appelés fils de Dieu.
10 Blessed they who are persecuted on account of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.
Heureux ceux qui sont persécutés à cause de la justice, car c'est à eux qu'appartient le royaume des cieux.
11 Blessed are ye when they may reproach and persecute you, and say every wicked thing against you, lying, for my sake.
Vous êtes heureux quand on vous aura injuriés et persécutés, et qu'on aura dit faussement toute sorte de mal contre vous, à cause de moi.
12 Rejoice and exult, for your reward is great in the heavens; for thus have they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Réjouissez-vous et tressaillez de joie, parce que votre récompense est considérable dans les cieux; car c'est ainsi qu'on a persécuté les prophètes qui ont vécu avant vous.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth; but if the salt have become insipid, wherewith shall it be salted? It is no longer fit for anything but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot by men.
« Vous êtes le sel de la terre; mais si le sel s'est affadi, avec quoi le salera-t-on? Il ne sert plus à rien, sinon, après avoir été jeté dehors, qu'à être foulé aux pieds par les hommes.
14 Ye are the light of the world: a city situated on the top of a mountain cannot be hid.
Vous êtes la lumière du monde: une ville située sur une montagne ne peut être cachée;
15 Nor do [men] light a lamp and put it under the bushel, but upon the lamp-stand, and it shines for all who are in the house.
on n'allume pas non plus une lampe pour la placer sous le boisseau, mais sur son support, et elle brille pour tous ceux qui sont dans la maison.
16 Let your light thus shine before men, so that they may see your upright works, and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.
Que de même votre lumière brille devant les hommes, afin qu'ils voient vos bonnes œuvres, et qu'ils glorifient votre Père qui est dans les cieux.
17 Think not that I am come to make void the law or the prophets; I am not come to make void, but to fulfil.
« Ne pensez pas que je sois venu pour abolir la loi ou les prophètes: je ne suis pas venu pour abolir, mais pour accomplir;
18 For verily I say unto you, Until the heaven and the earth pass away, one iota or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all come to pass.
car en vérité je vous le déclare, jusqu'à ce que le ciel et la terre aient disparu, un seul i ou un seul jambage ne disparaîtra point de la loi avant que tout n'ait été réalisé.
19 Whosoever then shall do away with one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of the heavens; but whosoever shall practise and teach [them], he shall be called great in the kingdom of the heavens.
En conséquence, celui qui aura enfreint un seul de ces moindres commandements et enseigné aux hommes à faire de même, sera renommé l'un des moindres dans le royaume des cieux; mais celui qui les aura observés et enseignés, celui-là sera renommé grand dans le royaume des cieux.
20 For I say unto you, that unless your righteousness surpass [that] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of the heavens.
Car je vous déclare que si votre justice n'a pas surpassé de beaucoup celle des scribes et des pharisiens, vous n'entrerez certainement pas dans le royaume des cieux.
21 Ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not kill; but whosoever shall kill shall be subject to the judgment.
« Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit par ceux d'autrefois: « Tu ne tueras point; mais celui qui aura tué sera justiciable du tribunal. »
22 But I say unto you, that every one that is lightly angry with his brother shall be subject to the judgment; but whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be subject to [be called before] the sanhedrim; but whosoever shall say, Fool, shall be subject to the penalty of the hell of fire. Eh bien, moi, je vous déclare que quiconque s'irrite contre son frère, sera justiciable du tribunal; et que celui qui aura dit à son frère: Raca, sera justiciable du sanhédrin; et que celui qui lui aura dit: Insensé, sera justicié dans la géhénne du feu. (Geenna g1067)
23 If therefore thou shouldest offer thy gift at the altar, and there shouldest remember that thy brother has something against thee,
« Si donc tu viens présenter ton offrande à l'autel, et que là tu te souviennes que ton frère a quelque grief contre toi,
24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and first go, be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
laisse là ton offrande devant l'autel, et va-t-en d'abord te réconcilier avec ton frère, et alors reviens présenter ton offrande.
25 Make friends with thine adverse party quickly, whilst thou art in the way with him; lest some time the adverse party deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
Mets-toi promptement d'accord avec ton adversaire pendant que tu es en chemin avec lui, de peur que ton adversaire ne te livre au juge, et le juge à l'huissier, et que tu ne sois jeté en prison.
26 Verily I say to thee, Thou shalt in no wise come out thence till thou hast paid the last farthing.
En vérité je te déclare, tu ne sortiras certainement pas de là, que tu n'aies payé le dernier quadrant.
27 Ye have heard that it has been said, Thou shalt not commit adultery.
« Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit: « Tu ne commettras point d'adultère. »
28 But I say unto you, that every one who looks upon a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Eh bien, moi, je vous déclare que quiconque regarde une femme pour la convoiter a déjà commis un adultère avec elle en son cœur.
29 But if thy right eye be a snare to thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
Mais si ton œil droit te fait trébucher, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi; car il est de ton intérêt qu'un seul de tes membres périsse et que ton corps entier ne soit pas jeté dans la géhenne. (Geenna g1067)

31 It has been said too, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a letter of divorce.
Il a encore été dit: « Que celui qui aura répudié sa femme lui remette un acte de divorce. »
32 But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for cause of fornication, makes her commit adultery, and whosoever marries one that is put away commits adultery.
Eh bien, moi, je vous déclare que quiconque répudie sa femme, sauf pour cause d'impudicité, la pousse à commettre un adultère, et que celui qui aura épousé une femme répudiée commet un adultère.
33 Again, ye have heard that it has been said to the ancients, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt render to the Lord what thou hast sworn.
« Vous avez encore appris qu'il a été dit par ceux d'autrefois: « Tu ne te parjureras point, mais tu t'acquitteras envers le Seigneur de tes serments. »
34 But I say unto you, Do not swear at all; neither by the heaven, because it is [the] throne of God;
Eh bien, moi, je vous dis de ne point jurer du tout, ni par le ciel parce que c'est le trône de Dieu,
35 nor by the earth, because it is [the] footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, because it is [the] city of the great King.
ni par la terre parce que c'est le marchepied de Ses pieds, ni par Jérusalem parce que c'est la ville du Grand Roi.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
Tu ne jureras pas non plus sur ta tête, car tu ne peux rendre blanc ou noir un seul cheveu.
37 But let your word be Yea, yea; Nay, nay; but what is more than these is from evil.
Mais votre parole sera: oui, oui! non, non! Ce qu'on y ajoute vient du malin.
38 Ye have heard that it has been said, Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.
« Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit: « œil pour œil et dent pour dent. »
39 But I say unto you, not to resist evil; but whoever shall strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other;
Eh bien, moi, je vous dis de ne point résister au méchant; mais quiconque te soufflette sur la joue droite, présente-lui aussi l'autre;
40 and to him that would go to law with thee and take thy body coat, leave him thy cloak also.
à celui qui veut t'intenter un procès et prendre ta tunique, abandonne-lui aussi le manteau;
41 And whoever will compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.
et quiconque te mettra en réquisition pour un mille, fais-en deux avec lui.
42 To him that asks of thee give, and from him that desires to borrow of thee turn not away.
Donne à qui te demande, et ne repousse pas celui qui veut emprunter de toi.
43 Ye have heard that it has been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy.
« Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit: « Tu aimeras ton prochain, et tu haïras ton ennemi. »
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, [bless those who curse you, ] do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who [insult you and] persecute you,
Eh bien, moi, je vous dis: aimez vos ennemis et priez pour vos persécuteurs,
45 that ye may be [the] sons of your Father who is in [the] heavens; for he makes his sun rise on evil and good, and sends rain on just and unjust.
afin que vous soyez fils de votre Père qui est dans les cieux, car Il fait lever Son soleil sur les méchants et sur les bons, et Il fait pleuvoir sur les justes et sur les injustes.
46 For if ye should love those who love you, what reward have ye? Do not also the tax-gatherers the same?
En effet, si vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment, quelle récompense en avez-vous? Est-ce que les publicains aussi ne font pas la même chose?
47 And if ye should salute your brethren only, what do ye extraordinary? Do not also the Gentiles the same?
Et si vous ne saluez que vos frères, que faites-vous d'extraordinaire? Est-ce que les païens aussi ne font pas la même chose?
48 Be ye therefore perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Pour vous donc, vous serez parfaits comme votre Père céleste est parfait.
