Luke 1
1 Forasmuch as many have undertaken to draw up a relation concerning the matters fully believed among us,
Habiendo muchos tentado a poner en orden la historia de las cosas que entre nosotros han sido del todo certificadas,
2 as those who from the beginning were eye-witnesses of and attendants on the Word have delivered them to us,
Como nos las enseñaron los que desde el principio fueron testigos de vista, y ministros de la palabra:
3 it has seemed good to me also, accurately acquainted from the origin with all things, to write to thee with method, most excellent Theophilus,
Háme parecido bueno también a mí, después de haber entendido todas las cosas desde el principio con diligencia, escribírte las por orden, oh muy buen Téofilo,
4 that thou mightest know the certainty of those things in which thou hast been instructed.
Para que conozcas la verdad de las cosas, en las cuales has sido enseñado.
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest, by name Zacharias, of the course of Abia, and his wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elizabeth.
Hubo en los días de Heródes rey de Judea, un sacerdote llamado Zacarías, de la clase de Abías; y su mujer era de las hijas de Aarón, llamada Elisabet.
6 And they were both just before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Y eran ambos justos delante de Dios, andando en todos los mandamientos y estatutos del Señor sin reprensión.
7 And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.
Y no tenían hijo; porque Elisabet era estéril, y ambos eran ya avanzados en sus días.
8 And it came to pass, as he fulfilled his priestly service before God in the order of his course,
Y aconteció, que administrando Zacarías el sacerdocio delante de Dios en el orden de su clase,
9 it fell to him by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to enter into the temple of the Lord to burn incense.
Conforme a la costumbre del sacerdocio, salió en suerte a quemar incienso, entrando en el templo del Señor.
10 And all the multitude of the people were praying without at the hour of incense.
Y toda la multitud del pueblo estaba fuera orando a la hora del incienso.
11 And an angel of [the] Lord appeared to him, standing on the right of the altar of incense.
Y le apareció el ángel del Señor que estaba a la mano derecha del altar del incienso.
12 And Zacharias was troubled, seeing [him], and fear fell upon him.
Y se turbó Zacarías viéndo le, y cayó temor sobre él.
13 But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zacharias, because thy supplication has been heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
Mas el ángel le dijo: Zacarías, no temas; porque tu oración ha sido oída; y tu mujer Elisabet te parirá un hijo, y llamarás su nombre Juan;
14 And he shall be to thee joy and rejoicing, and many shall rejoice at his birth.
Y tendrás gozo y alegría, y muchos se gozarán de su nacimiento;
15 For he shall be great before [the] Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with [the] Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
Porque será grande delante de Dios; y no beberá vino ni sidra; y será lleno del Espíritu Santo aun desde el vientre de su madre.
16 And many of the sons of Israel shall he turn to [the] Lord their God.
Y a muchos de los hijos de Israel convertirá al Señor Dios de ellos;
17 And he shall go before him in [the] spirit and power of Elias, to turn hearts of fathers to children, and disobedient ones to [the] thoughts of just [men], to make ready for [the] Lord a prepared people.
Porque él irá delante de él con el espíritu y virtud de Elías, para convertir los corazones de los padres a los hijos, y los rebeldes a la prudencia de los justos, para aparejar al Señor pueblo perfecto.
18 And Zacharias said to the angel, How shall I know this, for I am an old man, and my wife advanced in years?
Y dijo Zacarías al ángel: ¿En qué conoceré esto? porque yo soy viejo, y mi mujer avanzada en días.
19 And the angel answering, said to him, I am Gabriel, who stand before God, and I have been sent to speak to thee, and to bring these glad tidings to thee;
Y respondiendo el ángel, le dijo: Yo soy Gabriel, que estoy delante de Dios; y soy enviado a hablarte, y a darte estas buenas nuevas.
20 and behold, thou shalt be silent and not able to speak, till the day in which these things shall take place, because thou hast not believed my words, the which shall be fulfilled in their time.
Y he aquí, serás mudo, y no podrás hablar, hasta el día que esto sea hecho; por cuanto no creíste a mis palabras, las cuales se cumplirán a su tiempo.
21 And the people were awaiting Zacharias, and they wondered at his delaying in the temple.
Y el pueblo estaba esperando a Zacarías, y se maravillaban que él se tardase tanto en el templo.
22 But when he came out he could not speak to them, and they recognised that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he was making signs to them, and continued dumb.
Y saliendo, no les podía hablar; y entendieron que había visto visión en el templo; y él les hablaba por señas; y quedó mudo.
23 And it came to pass, when the days of his service were completed, he departed to his house.
Y fue, que cumplidos los días de su ministerio, se vino a su casa.
24 Now after these days, Elizabeth his wife conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
Y después de aquellos días concibió su mujer Elisabet, y se escondió por cinco meses, diciendo:
25 Thus has [the] Lord done to me in [these] days in which he looked upon [me] to take away my reproach among men.
Porque el Señor me hizo esto en los días en que miró para quitar mi afrenta entre los hombres.
26 But in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent of God to a city of Galilee, of which [the] name [was] Nazareth,
Y al sexto mes el ángel Gabriel fue enviado de Dios a una ciudad de Galilea, que se llama Nazaret,
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name [was] Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name [was] Mary.
A una virgen desposada con un varón que se llamaba José de la casa de David; y el nombre de la virgen era María.
28 And the angel came in to her, and said, Hail, [thou] favoured one! the Lord [is] with thee: [blessed art thou amongst women].
Y entrando el ángel a donde estaba ella, dijo: Tengas gozo, altamente favorecida, el Señor es contigo: bendita tú entre las mujeres.
29 But she, [seeing] [the angel], was troubled at his word, and reasoned in her mind what this salutation might be.
Mas ella, como le vio, se turbó de su hablar; y pensaba que salutación fuese esta.
30 And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favour with God;
Entonces el ángel le dijo: María, no temas, porque has hallado gracia delante de Dios.
31 and behold, thou shalt conceive in the womb and bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus.
Y he aquí, que concibirás en el vientre, y parirás un hijo, y llamarás su nombre Jesús.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called Son of [the] Highest; and [the] Lord God shall give him the throne of David his father;
Este será grande, e Hijo del Altísimo será llamado, y le dará el Señor Dios el trono de David su padre;
33 and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for the ages, and of his kingdom there shall not be an end. (aiōn g165)
Y reinará en la casa de Jacob eternamente, y de su reino no habrá cabo. (aiōn g165)
34 But Mary said to the angel, How shall this be, since I know not a man?
Entonces María dijo al ángel: ¿Cómo será esto? porque no conozco varón.
35 And the angel answering said to her, [The] Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and power of [the] Highest overshadow thee, wherefore the holy thing also which shall be born shall be called Son of God.
Y respondiendo el ángel, le dijo: El Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y la virtud del Altísimo te hará sombra; por lo cual también lo Santo que de ti nacerá, será llamado Hijo de Dios.
36 And behold, Elizabeth, thy kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month to her that was called barren:
Y, he aquí, Elisabet tu parienta, también ella ha concebido un hijo en su vejez; y éste es el sexto mes a ella que era llamada la estéril;
37 for nothing shall be impossible with God.
Porque ninguna cosa es imposible para Dios.
38 And Mary said, Behold the bondmaid of [the] Lord; be it to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Entonces María dijo: He aquí la sierva del Señor, hágase en mí conforme a tu palabra. Y el ángel se partió de ella.
39 And Mary, rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah,
En aquellos días levantándose María, fue a la serranía con priesa a una ciudad de Judá.
40 and entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elizabeth.
Y entró en casa de Zacarías, y saludó a Elisabet.
41 And it came to pass, as Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with [the] Holy Spirit,
Y aconteció, que como oyó Elisabet la salutación de María, la criatura saltó en su vientre; y Elisabet fue llena de Espíritu Santo,
42 and cried out with a loud voice and said, Blessed [art] thou amongst women, and blessed the fruit of thy womb.
Y exclamó a gran voz, y dijo: Bendita tú entre las mujeres, y bendito el fruto de tu vientre.
43 And whence [is] this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
¿Y de dónde esto a mí, que venga la madre de mi Señor a mí?
44 For behold, as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped with joy in my womb.
Porque he aquí, que como llegó la voz de tu salutación a mis oídos, la criatura saltó de alegría en mi vientre.
45 And blessed [is] she that has believed, for there shall be a fulfilment of the things spoken to her from [the] Lord.
Y bienaventurada la que creyó, porque se cumplirán las cosas que le fueron dichas de parte del Señor.
46 And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,
Entonces María dijo: Engrandece mi alma al Señor:
47 and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Y mi espíritu se alegró en Dios mi Salvador.
48 For he has looked upon the low estate of his bondmaid; for behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Porque miró a la bajeza de su sierva; porque, he aquí, desde ahora me llamarán bienaventurada todas las generaciones.
49 For the Mighty One has done to me great things, and holy [is] his name;
Porque me ha hecho grandes cosas el poderoso; y santo es su nombre,
50 and his mercy [is] to generations and generations to them that fear him.
Y su misericordia es de generación a generación a los que le temen.
51 He has wrought strength with his arm; he has scattered haughty [ones] in the thought of their heart.
Hizo valentía con su brazo: esparció los soberbios en el pensamiento de su corazón.
52 He has put down rulers from thrones, and exalted the lowly.
Quitó los poderosos de los tronos, y levantó a los humildes.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent away the rich empty.
A los hambrientos hinchió de bienes; y a los ricos envió vacíos.
54 He has helped Israel his servant, in order to remember mercy,
Socorrió a Israel su siervo, acordándose de su misericordia,
Como habló a nuestros Padres, a Abraham y a su simiente para siempre. (aiōn g165)
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her house.
Y se quedó María con ella como tres meses; y se volvió a su casa.
57 But the time was fulfilled for Elizabeth that she should bring forth, and she gave birth to a son.
Y a Elisabet se le cumplió el tiempo de parir, y parió un hijo.
58 And her neighbours and kinsfolk heard that [the] Lord had magnified his mercy with her, and they rejoiced with her.
Y oyeron los vecinos y los parientes que Dios había hecho grande misericordia con ella, y se alegraron con ella.
59 And it came to pass on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called it after the name of his father, Zacharias.
Y aconteció, que al octavo día vinieron para circuncidar al niño, y le llamaban del nombre de su padre, Zacarías.
60 And his mother answering said, No; but he shall be called John.
Y respondiendo su madre, dijo: No; sino Juan será llamado.
61 And they said to her, There is no one among thy kinsfolk who is called by this name.
Y le dijeron: ¿Por qué? nadie hay en tu parentela que se llame por este nombre.
62 And they made signs to his father as to what he might wish it to be called.
Y hablaron por señas a su padre, como le quería llamar.
63 And having asked for a writing-table, he wrote saying, John is his name. And they all wondered.
Y demandando la tablilla, escribió, diciendo: Juan es su nombre. Y todos se maravillaron.
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spake, blessing God.
Y luego fue abierta su boca, y suelta su lengua, y habló bendiciendo a Dios.
65 And fear came upon all who dwelt round about them; and in the whole hill-country of Judaea all these things were the subject of conversation.
Y vino un temor sobre todos los vecinos de ellos; y en toda la serranía de Judea fueron divulgadas todas estas cosas.
66 And all who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then will this child be? And [the] Lord's hand was with him.
Y todos los que las oían, las guardaban en su corazón, diciendo: ¿Quién será este niño? Y la mano del Señor era con él.
67 And Zacharias his father was filled with [the] Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
Y Zacarías su padre fue lleno de Espíritu Santo, y profetizó, diciendo:
68 Blessed be [the] Lord the God of Israel, because he has visited and wrought redemption for his people,
Bendito el Señor Dios de Israel, que visitó, e hizo redención a su pueblo.
69 and raised up a horn of deliverance for us in the house of David his servant;
Y nos enhestó el cuerno de salud en la casa de David su siervo.
70 as he spoke by [the] mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began; (aiōn g165)
Como habló por boca de sus santos profetas, que fueron desde el principio: (aiōn g165)
71 deliverance from our enemies and out of the hand of all who hate us;
Salvación de nuestros enemigos, y de mano de todos los que nos aborrecieron:
72 to fulfil mercy with our fathers and remember his holy covenant,
Para hacer misericordia con nuestros padres, y acordarse de su santo concierto:
73 [the] oath which he swore to Abraham our father,
Del juramento que juró a Abraham nuestro padre,
74 to give us, that, saved out of the hand of our enemies, we should serve him without fear
Que nos daría él: que libertados de las manos de nuestros enemigos, le serviríamos sin temor,
75 in piety and righteousness before him all our days.
En santidad y justicia delante de él, todos los días de nuestra vida.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called [the] prophet of [the] Highest; for thou shalt go before the face of [the] Lord to make ready his ways;
Tú, empero, o! niño, profeta del Altísimo serás llamado; porque irás delante de la faz del Señor, para aparejar sus caminos:
77 to give knowledge of deliverance to his people by [the] remission of their sins
Dando ciencia de salvación a su pueblo para remisión de sus pecados:
78 on account of [the] bowels of mercy of our God; wherein [the] dayspring from on high has visited us,
Por las entrañas de misericordia de nuestro Dios, con que nos visitó de lo alto el oriente,
79 to shine upon them who were sitting in darkness and in [the] shadow of death, to guide our feet into [the] way of peace.
Para dar luz a los que habitan en tinieblas y en sombra de muerte; para encaminar nuestros pies por camino de paz.
80 — And the child grew and was strengthened in spirit; and he was in the deserts until the day of his shewing to Israel.
Y el niño crecía, y era confortado en espíritu, y estuvo en los desiertos hasta el día que se mostró a Israel.
