Jonah 3
1 And the word of Jehovah came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
És lőn az Úrnak szava Jónáshoz másodszor is, mondván:
2 Arise, go to Nineveh, the great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I shall bid thee.
Kelj fel, menj Ninivébe, a nagy városba, és hirdesd néki azt a beszédet, a mit én parancsolok néked.
3 And Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.
És felkele Jónás, és elméne Ninivébe az Úr szava szerint. Ninive pedig nagy városa vala Istennek, három napi járó föld.
4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!
És kezde Jónás bemenni a városba egy napi járóra, és kiálta és monda: Még negyven nap, és elpusztul Ninive!
5 And the men of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
A niniveiek pedig hivének Istenben, és bőjtöt hirdetének, és nagyjaiktól fogva kicsinyeikig zsákba öltözének.
6 And the word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and laid his robe from him, and covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
És eljuta a beszéd Ninive királyához, és felkele királyi székéből, és leveté magáról az ő királyi ruháját, és zsákba borítkozék, és üle a porba.
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything: let them not feed, nor drink water;
És kiáltának és szólának Ninivében, a királynak és főembereinek akaratából, mondván: Emberek és barmok, ökrök és juhok: semmit meg ne kóstoljanak, ne legeljenek és vizet se igyanak!
8 and let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God; and let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
Hanem öltözzenek zsákba az emberek és barmok, és kiáltsanak az Istenhez erősen, és térjen meg kiki az ő gonosz útáról és az erőszakosságból, a mely az ő kezökben van!
9 Who knoweth but that God will turn and repent, and will turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
Ki tudja? talán visszatér és megengesztelődik az Isten és elfordul haragjának búsulásától, és nem veszünk el!
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil that he had said he would do unto them, and he did [it] not.
És látá Isten az ő cselekedeteiket, hogy megtértek az ő gonosz útjokról: és megbáná az Isten azt a gonoszt, a melyről mondá, hogy végrehajtja rajtok, és nem hajtá végre.
