James 3
1 Be not many teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive greater judgment.
Hermanos míos, no os hagáis muchos de vosotros maestros, sabiendo que recibiremos mayor condenación.
2 For we all often offend. If any one offend not in word, he [is] a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body too.
Porque todos ofendemos en muchas cosas. Si alguno no ofende en palabra, éste es varón perfecto, que también puede con freno gobernar todo el cuerpo.
3 Behold, we put the bits in the mouths of the horses, that they may obey us, and we turn round their whole bodies.
He aquí, nosotros ponemos a los caballos frenos en las bocas para que nos obedezcan, y gobernamos todo su cuerpo.
4 Behold also the ships, which are so great, and driven by violent winds, are turned about by a very small rudder, wherever the pleasure of the helmsman will.
He aquí también las naos, siendo tan grandes, y siendo llevadas de impetuosos vientos, son sin embargo gobernadas con un muy pequeño gobernalle por donde quiera que quisiere la gana del que las gobierna.
5 Thus also the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. See how little a fire, how large a wood it kindles!
Semejantemente también la lengua es un pequeñito miembro, mas se gloría de grandes cosas. He aquí, un pequeño fuego, ¡cuán grande bosque enciende!
6 and the tongue [is] fire, the world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set in our members, the defiler of the whole body, and which sets fire to the course of nature, and is set on fire of hell. (Geenna g1067)
Y la lengua es un fuego, digo, un mundo de maldad. Así la lengua está puesta entre nuestros miembros, la cual contamina todo el cuerpo, e inflama la rueda natural; y es inflamada del gehena. (Geenna g1067)
7 For every species both of beasts and of birds, both of creeping things and of sea animals, is tamed and has been tamed by the human species;
Porque toda naturaleza de bestias fieras, y de aves, y de serpientes, y de los de la mar, se doma, y es domada por la naturaleza humana;
8 but the tongue can no one among men tame; [it is] an unsettled evil, full of death-bringing poison.
Pero ningún hombre puede domar la lengua: es un mal que no puede ser refrenado, y está llena de veneno mortal.
9 Therewith bless we the Lord and Father, and therewith curse we men made after [the] likeness of God.
Con ella bendecimos a Dios, y al Padre, y con ella maldecimos a los hombres, los cuales son hechos a la semejanza de Dios.
10 Out of the same mouth goes forth blessing and cursing. It is not right, my brethren, that these things should be thus.
De una misma boca procede bendición y maldición. Hermanos míos, no conviene que estas cosas sean así hechas.
11 Does the fountain, out of the same opening, pour forth sweet and bitter?
¿Echa alguna fuente por un mismo manantial agua dulce y amarga?
12 Can, my brethren, a fig produce olives, or a vine figs? Neither [can] salt [water] make sweet water.
Hermanos míos, ¿puede la higuera producir aceitunas; o la vid, higos? Así ninguna fuente puede dar agua salada y dulce.
13 Who [is] wise and understanding among you; let him shew out of a good conversation his works in meekness of wisdom;
¿Quién es sabio, y entendido entre vosotros? muestre por buena conversación sus obras en mansedumbre de sabiduría.
14 but if ye have bitter emulation and strife in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.
Empero si tenéis envidia amarga, y contención en vuestros corazones, no os glorieis, ni seáis mentirosos contra la verdad;
15 This is not the wisdom which comes down from above, but earthly, natural, devilish.
Porque esta sabiduría no es la que desciende de lo alto, sino que es terrena, animal, y demoniaca.
16 For where emulation and strife [are], there [is] disorder and every evil thing.
Porque donde hay envidia y contención, allí hay tumulto, y toda obra perversa.
17 But the wisdom from above first is pure, then peaceful, gentle, yielding, full of mercy and good fruits, unquestioning, unfeigned.
Empero la sabiduría que es de lo alto, primeramente es pura, después pacífica, modesta, fácil de persuadir, llena de misericordia y de buenos frutos, no juzgadora, no fingida.
18 But [the] fruit of righteousness in peace is sown for them that make peace.
Y el fruto de justicia se siembra en paz para aquellos que hacen paz.
