Haggai 1
1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by the prophet Haggai unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,
ダリヨス王の二年六月、その月の一日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイによって、シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベル、およびヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアに臨んだ、
2 Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that Jehovah's house should be built.
「万軍の主はこう言われる、この民は、主の家を再び建てる時は、まだこないと言っている」。
3 And the word of Jehovah came by Haggai the prophet, saying,
そこで、主の言葉はまた預言者ハガイに臨んだ、
4 Is it time for you that ye should dwell in your wainscoted houses, while this house lieth waste?
「主の家はこのように荒れはてているのに、あなたがたは、みずから板で張った家に住んでいる時であろうか。
5 And now thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.
それで今、万軍の主はこう言われる、あなたがたは自分のなすべきことをよく考えるがよい。
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but are not satisfied; ye drink, but are not filled with drink; ye clothe yourselves, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages for a bag with holes.
あなたがたは多くまいても、取入れは少なく、食べても、飽きることはない。飲んでも、満たされない。着ても、暖まらない。賃銀を得ても、これを破れた袋に入れているようなものである。
7 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.
万軍の主はこう言われる、あなたがたは、自分のなすべきことを考えるがよい。
8 Go up to the mountain and bring wood, and build the house, and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Jehovah.
山に登り、木を持ってきて主の家を建てよ。そうすればわたしはこれを喜び、かつ栄光のうちに現れると主は言われる。
9 Ye looked for much, and behold it was little; and when ye brought it home, I blew upon it. Wherefore? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, whilst ye run every man to his own house.
あなたがたは多くを望んだが、見よ、それは少なかった。あなたがたが家に持ってきたとき、わたしはそれを吹き払った。これは何ゆえであるかと、万軍の主は言われる。これはわたしの家が荒れはてているのに、あなたがたは、おのおの自分の家の事だけに、忙しくしている。
10 Therefore over you the heavens withhold their dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit.
それゆえ、あなたがたの上の天は露をさし止め、地はその産物をさし止めた。
11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon man, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
また、わたしは地にも、山にも、穀物にも、新しい酒にも、油にも、地に生じるものにも、人間にも、家畜にも、手で作るすべての作物にも、ひでりを呼び寄せた」。
12 And Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, according as Jehovah their God had sent him, and the people feared before Jehovah.
そこで、シャルテルの子ゼルバベルとヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアおよび残りのすべての民は、その神、主の声と、その神、主のつかわされた預言者ハガイの言葉とに聞きしたがい、そして民は、主の前に恐れかしこんだ。
13 Then spoke Haggai, Jehovah's messenger, in Jehovah's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith Jehovah.
時に、主の使者ハガイは主の命令により、民に告げて言った、「わたしはあなたがたと共にいると主は言われる」。
14 And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked at the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God,
そして主は、シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベルの心と、ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアの心、および残りのすべての民の心を、振り動かされたので、彼らは来て、その神、万軍の主の家の作業にとりかかった。
15 in the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
これは六月二十四日のことであった。
