Amos 3

1 Hear this word that Jehovah hath spoken against you, children of Israel, against the whole family that I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

Escuchen esta palabra que Yahvé ha pronunciado contra ustedes, hijos de Israel, contra toda la familia que hice subir de la tierra de Egipto, diciendo

2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore will I visit upon you all your iniquities.

“Sólo a ti te he elegido de entre todas las familias de la tierra. Por eso te castigaré por todos tus pecados”.

3 Shall two walk together except they be agreed?

Caminan dos juntos, ¿a menos que se hayan puesto de acuerdo?

4 Will a lion roar in the forest when he hath no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den if he have taken nothing?

Rugirá un león en la espesura, cuando no tiene presa? ¿Grita un león joven fuera de su guarida, si no ha cogido nada?

5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth when no gin [is laid] for him? Will the snare spring up from the earth when nothing at all hath been taken?

¿Puede un pájaro caer en una trampa en la tierra, donde no se le tiende una trampa? ¿Surge una trampa del suelo, cuando no hay nada que atrapar?

6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? Shall there be evil in a city, and Jehovah not have done [it]?

Suena la alarma de la trompeta en una ciudad, sin que la gente tenga miedo? El mal le sucede a una ciudad, ¿y Yahvé no lo ha hecho?

7 But the Lord Jehovah will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

Ciertamente el Señor Yahvé no hará nada, a menos que revele su secreto a sus siervos los profetas.

8 The lion hath roared, — who will not fear? The Lord Jehovah hath spoken, — who can but prophesy?

El león ha rugido. ¿Quién no temerá? El Señor Yahvé ha hablado. ¿Quién puede sino profetizar?

9 Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great uproar in the midst thereof, and the oppressions that are within her:

Proclamad en los palacios de Asdod, y en los palacios de la tierra de Egipto, y digan: “Reúnanse en los montes de Samaria, y ver qué malestar hay en ella, y qué opresión hay entre ellos”.

10 and they know not to do right, saith Jehovah, who store up violence and plunder in their palaces.

“Ciertamente, no saben hacer el bien”, dice Yahvé, “Que acaparan el saqueo y el botín en sus palacios”.

11 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: An adversary! — even round about the land! And he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be pillaged.

Por eso dice el Señor Yahvé: “Un adversario invadirá la tierra; y derribará tus fortalezas, y sus fortalezas serán saqueadas”.

12 Thus saith Jehovah: Like as the shepherd rescueth out of the jaw of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be rescued that sit in Samaria in the corner of a couch, and upon the damask of a bed.

Yahvé dice: “Como el pastor rescata de la boca del león dos patas, o un trozo de oreja, así serán rescatados los hijos de Israel que se sientan en Samaria en la esquina de un sofá, y en los cojines de seda de una cama”.

13 Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord Jehovah, the God of hosts,

“Escuchen y den testimonio contra la casa de Jacob”, dice el Señor Yahvé, el Dios de los Ejércitos.

14 that in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him, I will also punish the altars of Bethel; and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

“Porque el día en que yo visite las transgresiones de Israel sobre él, También visitaré los altares de Betel; y los cuernos del altar serán cortados, y caen al suelo.

15 And I will smite the winter-house with the summer-house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and many houses shall have an end, saith Jehovah.

Golpearé la casa de invierno con la de verano; y las casas de marfil perecerán, y las grandes casas tendrán un final”. dice Yahvé.
