Acts 20
1 But after the tumult had ceased, Paul having called the disciples to [him] and embraced [them], went away to go to Macedonia.
Mais, lorsque le tumulte eut cessé, Paul, ayant fait appeler les disciples, leur adressa des exhortations, et, après leur avoir dit adieu, il partit pour se rendre en Macédoine.
2 And having passed through those parts, and having exhorted them with much discourse, he came to Greece.
Quand il eut parcouru ce pays-là, et qu'il leur eut adressé de nombreuses exhortations, il passa en Grèce,
3 And having spent three months [there], a treacherous plot against him having been set on foot by the Jews, as he was going to sail to Syria, [the] resolution was adopted of returning through Macedonia.
et, après trois mois de séjour, une embûche que lui tendirent les Juifs au moment où il allait s'embarquer pour la Syrie, lui fit prendre le parti de revenir par la Macédoine.
4 And there accompanied him as far as Asia, Sopater [son] of Pyrrhus, a Berean; and of Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus, and Gaius and Timotheus of Derbe, and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.
Il était accompagné par Sopatros fils de Pyrrhus de Bérée, par les Thessaloniciens Aristarque et Secundus, par Gaïus de Derbe et Timothée, et par les Asiates Tychique et Trophime.
5 These going before waited for us in Troas;
Ceux-ci ayant pris les devants nous attendirent à Troas.
6 but we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and we came to them to Troas in five days, where we spent seven days.
Pour nous, nous nous embarquâmes à Philippes, après les jours des pains sans levain, et nous vînmes les rejoindre au bout de cinq jours à Troas, où nous séjournâmes sept jours.
7 And the first day of the week, we being assembled to break bread, Paul discoursed to them, about to depart on the morrow. And he prolonged the discourse till midnight.
Or, le premier jour de la semaine, comme nous nous étions réunis pour rompre le pain, Paul discourait avec eux, comme devant partir le lendemain, et il prolongea son discours jusques à minuit.
8 And there were many lights in the upper room where we were assembled.
Or il y avait de nombreuses lampes dans la chambre haute où nous étions réunis;
9 And a certain youth, by name Eutychus, sitting at the window-opening, overpowered by deep sleep, while Paul discoursed very much at length, having been overpowered by the sleep, fell from the third story down to the bottom, and was taken up dead.
et un jeune homme, nommé Eutyche, qui était assis sur la fenêtre, fut saisi d'un profond sommeil pendant que Paul prolongeait son discours, et, entraîné par le sommeil, il tomba du troisième étage en bas, et il fut relevé mort.
10 But Paul descending fell upon him, and enfolding [him] [in his arms], said, Be not troubled, for his life is in him.
Mais Paul étant descendu se jeta sur lui, et l'ayant pris à bras-le-corps, il dit: « Ne vous troublez pas; car son âme est en lui. »
11 And having gone up, and having broken the bread, and eaten, and having long spoken until daybreak, so he went away.
Puis, étant remonté et ayant rompu le pain et pris part au repas, il conversa longtemps encore jusques à l'aube, après quoi il partit.
12 And they brought [away] the boy alive, and were no little comforted.
Cependant on avait ramené l'enfant vivant, ce qui ne fut pas une médiocre consolation.
13 And we, having gone before on board ship, sailed off to Assos, going to take in Paul there; for so he had directed, he himself being about to go on foot.
Pour nous, ayant pris les devants avec le navire, nous nous embarquâmes pour Assos, où nous devions reprendre Paul; car cela avait été ainsi décidé, lui-même devant faire la route à pied.
14 And when he met with us at Assos, having taken him on board, we came to Mitylene;
Or, lorsqu'il nous eut rejoints à Assos, nous touchâmes, après l'avoir pris, à Mitylène,
15 and having sailed thence, on the morrow arrived opposite Chios, and the next day put in at Samos; and having stayed at Trogyllium, the next day we came to Miletus:
et, après en être partis, nous arrivâmes le lendemain en face de Chios, le soir nous abordâmes à Samos, et le jour suivant nous parvînmes à Milet.
16 for Paul thought it desirable to sail by Ephesus, so that he might not be made to spend time in Asia; for he hastened, if it was possible for him, to be the day of Pentecost at Jerusalem.
Paul avait en effet résolu de passer devant Éphèse sans s'y arrêter, afin de ne pas perdre de temps en Asie; car il faisait diligence, afin de se trouver, si cela lui était possible, à Jérusalem le jour de la Pentecôte.
17 But from Miletus having sent to Ephesus, he called over [to him] the elders of the assembly.
Cependant de Milet il envoya à Éphèse, pour faire venir auprès de lui les anciens de l'église,
18 And when they were come to him, he said to them, Ye know how I was with you all the time from the first day that I arrived in Asia,
et, lorsqu'ils furent arrivés auprès de lui, il leur dit: « Vous savez comment, dès le premier jour où je suis arrivé en Asie, je me suis, pendant tout le temps, comporté avec vous,
19 serving the Lord with all lowliness, and tears, and temptations, which happened to me through the plots of the Jews;
m'asservissant au seigneur en toute humilité, au milieu des larmes et des épreuves qui me sont advenues par les embûches des Juifs;
20 how I held back nothing of what is profitable, so as not to announce [it] to you, and to teach you publicly and in every house,
vous savez comment je n'ai rien supprimé de ce qui était utile, pour me dispenser de vous prêcher et de vous enseigner en public et de maison en maison,
21 testifying to both Jews and Greeks repentance towards God, and faith towards our Lord Jesus Christ.
annonçant, soit aux Juifs, soit aux Grecs, la repentance envers Dieu et la foi en notre seigneur Jésus.
22 And now, behold, bound in my spirit I go to Jerusalem, not knowing what things shall happen to me in it;
Et maintenant, voici, me trouvant, quant à moi, contraint par l'Esprit, je me rends à Jérusalem, sans savoir ce qui m'y adviendra,
23 only that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city, saying that bonds and tribulations await me.
si ce n'est que, de ville en ville, l'esprit saint m'atteste que des chaînes et des tribulations m'attendent.
24 But I make no account of [my] life [as] dear to myself, so that I finish my course, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the glad tidings of the grace of God.
Mais je n'estime pas que ma vie vaille pour moi-même la peine d'en parler, pourvu que je puisse accomplir ma course et le ministère que j'ai reçu du seigneur Jésus d'annoncer la bonne nouvelle de la grâce de Dieu.
25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom [of God], shall see my face no more.
Et maintenant, voici, je sais que vous ne verrez plus mon visage, vous tous parmi lesquels j'ai vécu en prêchant le royaume;
26 Wherefore I witness to you this day, that I am clean from the blood of all,
c'est pourquoi je vous déclare aujourd'hui, que je suis net du sang de tous;
27 for I have not shrunk from announcing to you all the counsel of God.
car je ne me suis point soustrait à l'obligation de vous annoncer tout le conseil de Dieu.
28 Take heed therefore to yourselves, and to all the flock, wherein the Holy Spirit has set you as overseers, to shepherd the assembly of God, which he has purchased with the blood of his own.
Veillez sur vous-mêmes et sur tout le troupeau, au milieu duquel l'esprit saint vous a établis évêques, pour paître l'Église de Dieu, qu'il S'est acquise par Son propre sang,
29 [For] I know [this, ] that there will come in amongst you after my departure grievous wolves, not sparing the flock;
car je sais qu'après mon départ s'introduiront parmi vous des loups dangereux, qui n'épargneront pas le troupeau,
30 and from among your own selves shall rise up men speaking perverted things to draw away the disciples after them.
et que, du milieu de vous, surgiront des hommes qui prêcheront des doctrines perverses pour entraîner les disciples après eux.
31 Wherefore watch, remembering that for three years, night and day, I ceased not admonishing each one [of you] with tears.
C'est pourquoi veillez, vous rappelant que, pendant trois ans, je n'ai pas cessé, nuit et jour, d'exhorter avec larmes chacun de vous.
32 And now I commit you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build [you] up and give [to you] an inheritance among all the sanctified.
Et maintenant je vous remets au Seigneur et à la parole de Sa grâce, lui qui peut édifier et donner une part d'héritage parmi tous ceux qui ont été sanctifiés.
33 I have coveted [the] silver or gold or clothing of no one.
Je n'ai convoité ni l'argent, ni l'or, ni le vêtement de personne;
34 Yourselves know that these hands have ministered to my wants, and to those who were with me.
vous savez vous-mêmes que ce sont les mains que voilà qui ont pourvu à mes besoins et à ceux des personnes qui étaient avec moi;
35 I have shewed you all things, that thus labouring [we] ought to come in aid of the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
je vous ai montré qu'il faut, en travaillant ainsi, ménager les faibles et se rappeler les paroles du seigneur Jésus, car il a dit lui-même: « Il y a plus de bonheur à donner qu'à recevoir. »
36 And having said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all.
Après avoir ainsi parlé, il se jeta à genoux et pria avec eux tous.
37 And they all wept sore; and falling upon the neck of Paul they ardently kissed him,
Et ils versèrent tous d'abondantes larmes, et, s'étant jetés au cou de Paul, ils l'embrassaient tendrement,
38 specially pained by the word which he had said, that they would no more see his face. And they went down with him to the ship.
s'affligeant surtout de ce qu'il avait dit qu'ils ne verraient plus son visage, et ils l'accompagnèrent jusques au navire.
