2 Kings 23

1 And the king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

Και απέστειλεν ο βασιλεύς, και συνήγαγον προς αυτόν πάντας τους πρεσβυτέρους του Ιούδα και της Ιερουσαλήμ.

2 And the king went up into the house of Jehovah, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great; and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of Jehovah.

Και ανέβη ο βασιλεύς εις τον οίκον του Κυρίου, και πάντες οι άνδρες Ιούδα και πάντες οι κάτοικοι της Ιερουσαλήμ μετ' αυτού, και οι ιερείς και οι προφήται και πας ο λαός, από μικρού έως μεγάλου· και ανέγνωσεν εις επήκοον αυτών πάντας τους λόγους του βιβλίου της διαθήκης, το οποίον ευρέθη εν τω οίκω του Κυρίου.

3 And the king stood on the dais, and made a covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all [his] heart, and with all [his] soul, to establish the words of this covenant that are written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.

Και σταθείς ο βασιλεύς πλησίον του στύλου, έκαμε την διαθήκην ενώπιον του Κυρίου, να περιπατή κατόπιν του Κυρίου και να φυλάττη τας εντολάς αυτού και τα μαρτύρια αυτού και τα διατάγματα αυτού εξ όλης καρδίας και εξ όλης ψυχής, ώστε να εκτελώσι τους λόγους της διαθήκης ταύτης, τους γεγραμμένους εν τω βιβλίω τούτω. Και πας ο λαός εστάθη εις την διαθήκην.

4 And the king commanded Hilkijah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the doorkeepers, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that had been made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the host of the heavens; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Bethel.

Και προσέταξεν ο βασιλεύς Χελκίαν τον ιερέα τον μέγαν και τους ιερείς της δευτέρας τάξεως και τους φύλακας της πύλης, να εκβάλωσιν εκ του ναού του Κυρίου πάντα τα σκεύη, τα κατεσκευασμένα διά τον Βάαλ και διά το άλσος και διά πάσαν την στρατιάν του ουρανού· και κατέκαυσεν αυτά έξω της Ιερουσαλήμ εν τοις αγροίς Κέδρων, και μετεκόμισαν την στάκτην αυτών εις Βαιθήλ.

5 And he abolished the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places in the cities of Judah, and the environs of Jerusalem; and them that burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.

Και κατήργησε τους ειδωλολάτρας ιερείς, τους οποίους οι βασιλείς του Ιούδα διώρισαν να θυμιάζωσιν εν τοις υψηλοίς τόποις, εν ταις πόλεσι του Ιούδα και εν τοις πέριξ της Ιερουσαλήμ· και τους θυμιάζοντας εις τον Βάαλ, εις τον ήλιον και εις την σελήνην και εις τα ζώδια και εις πάσαν την στρατιάν του ουρανού.

6 And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, outside Jerusalem, to the torrent of Kidron, and burned it at the torrent of Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder upon the graves of the children of the people.

Και εξέβαλε το άλσος εκ του οίκου του Κυρίου, έξω της Ιερουσαλήμ, εις τον χείμαρρον Κέδρων, και κατέκαυσεν αυτό εν τω χειμάρρω Κέδρων και κατελέπτυνεν αυτό εις σκόνην, και έρριψε την σκόνην αυτού επί των μνημάτων των υιών του όχλου.

7 And he broke down the houses of the sodomites, which were in the house of Jehovah, where the women wove tents for the Asherah.

Και κατεκρήμνισε τους οίκους των σοδομιτών, τους εν τω οίκω του Κυρίου, όπου αι γυναίκες ύφαινον παραπετάσματα διά το άλσος.

8 And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba even to Beer-sheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates, those at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, [and] those on the left hand of any [going in] at the gate of the city.

Και έφερε πάντας τους ιερείς εκ των πόλεων του Ιούδα, και εβεβήλωσε τους υψηλούς τόπους, εις τους οποίους οι ιερείς εθυμίαζον, από Γεβά έως Βηρ-σαβεέ, και κατεκρήμνισε τους υψηλούς τόπους των πυλών, των εν τη εισόδω της πύλης Ιησού του άρχοντος της πόλεως, τη εξ αριστερών της πύλης της πόλεως.

9 Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of Jehovah in Jerusalem, but they ate of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

Πλην οι ιερείς των υψηλών τόπων δεν ανέβησαν προς το θυσιαστήριον του Κυρίου εν Ιερουσαλήμ, αλλ' έτρωγον άζυμα μεταξύ των αδελφών αυτών.

10 And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the sons of Hinnom, that no man might cause his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

Και εβεβήλωσε τον Τοφέθ, τον εν τη φάραγγι των υιών του Εννόμ· ώστε να μη δύναται μηδείς να διαβιβάση τον υιόν αυτού ή την θυγατέρα αυτού διά του πυρός εις τον Μολόχ.

11 And he abolished the horses that the kings of Judah had appointed to the sun at the entrance of the house of Jehovah, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the suburbs, and burned the chariots of the sun, with fire.

Και αφήρεσε τους ίππους, τους οποίους οι βασιλείς του Ιούδα έστησαν εις τον ήλιον, κατά την είσοδον του οίκου του Κυρίου, πλησίον του οικήματος του Νάθαν-μελέχ του ευνούχου, το οποίον ήτο εν Φαρουρείμ, και κατέκαυσεν εν πυρί τας αμάξας του ηλίου.

12 And the king broke down the altars that were on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars that Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of Jehovah, and he shattered them, [removing them] from thence, and cast the powder of them into the torrent of Kidron.

Και τα θυσιαστήρια τα επί του δώματος του υπερώου του Άχαζ, τα οποία έκαμον οι βασιλείς του Ιούδα, και τα θυσιαστήρια, τα οποία έκαμεν ο Μανασσής εν ταις δύο αυλαίς του οίκου του Κυρίου, κατέστρεψεν αυτά ο βασιλεύς και κατεκρήμνισεν εκείθεν και έρριψε την σκόνην αυτών εις τον χείμαρρον Κέδρων.

13 And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile.

Και τους υψηλούς τόπους τους κατά πρόσωπον της Ιερουσαλήμ, τους εν δεξιά του όρους της διαφθοράς, τους οποίους ωκοδόμησε Σολομών ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ διά την Αστάρτην το βδέλυγμα των Σιδωνίων, και διά τον Χεμώς το βδέλυγμα των Μωαβιτών, και διά τον Μελχώμ το βδέλυγμα των υιών Αμμών, εβεβήλωσεν ο βασιλεύς.

14 And he broke in pieces the columns, and cut down the Asherahs, and filled their place with the bones of men.

Και συνέτριψε τα αγάλματα και κατέκοψε τα άλση και εγέμισε τους τόπους αυτών από οστά ανθρώπων.

15 Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, the high place that Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down; and burned the high place, stamped it small to powder, and burned the Asherah.

Και το θυσιαστήριον το εν Βαιθήλ και τον υψηλόν τόπον, τον οποίον έκαμεν Ιεροβοάμ ο υιός του Ναβάτ, όστις έκαμε τον Ισραήλ να αμαρτήση, και εκείνο το θυσιαστήριον και τον υψηλόν τόπον κατεχάλασε και κατέκαυσε τον υψηλόν τόπον και ελέπτυνεν αυτά εις σκόνην και το άλσος κατέκαυσεν.

16 And Josiah turned himself, and saw the sepulchres that were there on the mount; and he sent and took the bones out of the sepulchres, and burned [them] upon the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of Jehovah, that the man of God had proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

Ότε δε ο Ιωσίας εστράφη και είδε τους τάφους τους εκεί εν τω όρει, έστειλε και έλαβε τα οστά εκ των τάφων και κατέκαυσεν αυτά επί του θυσιαστηρίου, και εβεβήλωσεν αυτό· κατά τον λόγον του Κυρίου, τον οποίον εκήρυξεν ο άνθρωπος του Θεού, ο λαλήσας τους λόγους τούτους.

17 Then he said, What tombstone is that which I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things which thou hast done against the altar of Bethel.

Τότε είπε, Τι μνημείον είναι εκείνο το οποίον εγώ βλέπω; Και οι άνδρες της πόλεως είπον προς αυτόν, Ο τάφος του ανθρώπου του Θεού, όστις ήλθεν εξ Ιούδα και εκήρυξε τα πράγματα ταύτα, τα οποία συ έκαμες κατά του θυσιαστηρίου της Βαιθήλ.

18 And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. And they saved his bones, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.

Και είπεν, Αφήσατε αυτόν· ας μη κινήση μηδείς τα οστά αυτού. Και διέσωσαν τα οστά αυτού, μετά των οστέων του προφήτου του ελθόντος εκ Σαμαρείας.

19 And all the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke [Jehovah] to anger, Josiah removed, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel.

Και πάντας έτι τους οίκους των υψηλών τόπων τους εν ταις πόλεσι της Σαμαρείας, τους οποίους έκαμον οι βασιλείς του Ισραήλ διά να παροργίσωσι τον Κύριον, ο Ιωσίας αφήρεσε, και έκαμεν εις αυτούς κατά πάντα τα έργα όσα έκαμεν εις Βαιθήλ.

20 And he sacrificed upon the altars all the priests of the high places that were there, and burned men's bones upon them. And he returned to Jerusalem.

Και εθυσίασεν επί των θυσιαστηρίων πάντας τους ιερείς των υψηλών τόπων τους εκεί, και κατέκαυσεν επ' αυτών τα οστά των ανθρώπων και επέστρεψεν εις Ιερουσαλήμ.

21 And the king commanded all the people saying, Hold the passover to Jehovah your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.

Τότε προσέταξεν ο βασιλεύς εις πάντα τον λαόν, λέγων, Κάμετε το πάσχα εις Κύριον τον Θεόν σας, κατά το γεγραμμένον εν τω βιβλίω τούτω της διαθήκης.

22 For there was not holden such a passover from the days of the judges that judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;

Βεβαίως δεν έγεινε τοιούτον πάσχα από των ημερών των κριτών οίτινες έκρινον τον Ισραήλ, ουδέ εν πάσαις ταις ημέραις των βασιλέων του Ισραήλ και των βασιλέων του Ιούδα,

23 but in the eighteenth year of king Josiah was this passover holden to Jehovah in Jerusalem.

οποίον έγεινε προς τον Κύριον εν Ιερουσαλήμ το πάσχα τούτο, κατά το δέκατον όγδοον έτος του βασιλέως Ιωσίου.

24 Moreover the necromancers and the soothsayers, and the teraphim and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, Josiah took away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkijah the priest had found in the house of Jehovah.

Αφήρεσεν έτι ο Ιωσίας και τους ανταποκριτάς των δαιμονίων και τους μάντεις και τα ξόανα και τα είδωλα και πάντα τα βδελύγματα τα οποία εφαίνοντο εν τη γη του Ιούδα και εν Ιερουσαλήμ, διά να εκτελέση τους λόγους του νόμου τους γεγραμμένους εν τω βιβλίω, το οποίον εύρηκε Χελκίας ο ιερεύς εν τω οίκω του Κυρίου.

25 And before him there had been no king like him that turned to Jehovah with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there his like.

Και όμοιος αυτού δεν υπήρξε προ αυτού βασιλεύς, όστις επέστρεψεν εις τον Κύριον εξ όλης αυτού της καρδίας και εξ όλης αυτού της ψυχής και εξ όλης αυτού της δυνάμεως, κατά πάντα τον νόμον του Μωϋσέως· ουδέ ηγέρθη μετ' αυτόν όμοιος αυτού.

26 But Jehovah turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him.

Πλην ο Κύριος δεν εστράφη από του θυμού της οργής αυτού της μεγάλης, καθ' ον εξήφθη η οργή αυτού κατά του Ιούδα, εξ αιτίας πάντων των παροργισμών, διά των οποίων παρώργισεν αυτόν ο Μανασσής.

27 And Jehovah said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will reject this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

Και είπε Κύριος, Και τον Ιούδαν θέλω εκβάλει απ' έμπροσθέν μου, καθώς εξέβαλον τον Ισραήλ, και θέλω απορρίψει την πόλιν ταύτην, την Ιερουσαλήμ, την οποίαν εξέλεξα, και τον οίκον περί του οποίου είπα, ο όνομά μου θέλει είσθαι εκεί.

28 And the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Αι δε λοιπαί πράξεις του Ιωσίου και πάντα όσα έπραξε, δεν είναι γεγραμμένα εν τω βιβλίω των χρονικών των βασιλέων του Ιούδα;

29 In his days Pharaoh-Nechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates; and king Josiah went against him; but [Nechoh] slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.

Εν ταις ημέραις αυτού ανέβη ο Φαραώ-νεχαώ, βασιλεύς της Αιγύπτου, κατά του βασιλέως της Ασσυρίας επί τον ποταμόν Ευφράτην. Και υπήγεν ο βασιλεύς Ιωσίας εις απάντησιν αυτού· και εκείνος, ως είδεν αυτόν, εθανάτωσεν αυτόν εν Μεγιδδώ.

30 And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's stead.

Και οι δούλοι αυτού επεβίβασαν αυτόν νεκρόν εις άμαξαν από Μεγιδδώ, και έφεραν αυτόν εις Ιερουσαλήμ, και έθαψαν αυτόν εν τω τάφω αυτού. Ο δε λαός της γης έλαβε τον Ιωάχαζ υιόν του Ιωσίου, και έχρισαν αυτόν και έκαμον αυτόν βασιλέα αντί του πατρός αυτού.

31 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Hamutal, daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

Εικοσιτριών ετών ηλικίας ήτο ο Ιωάχαζ, ότε εβασίλευσε· και εβασίλευσε τρεις μήνας εν Ιερουσαλήμ. Το δε όνομα της μητρός αυτού ήτο Αμουτάλ, θυγάτηρ του Ιερεμίου από Λιβνά.

32 And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers had done.

Και έπραξε πονηρά ενώπιον του Κυρίου, κατά πάντα όσα έπραξαν οι πατέρες αυτού.

33 And Pharaoh-Nechoh had him bound at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and laid a tribute upon the land of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

Και εφυλάκισεν αυτόν ο Φαραώ-νεχαώ εν Ριβλά εν τη γη Αιμάθ, διά να μη βασιλεύη εν Ιερουσαλήμ· και κατεδίκασε την γην εις πρόστιμον εκατόν ταλάντων αργυρίου και ενός ταλάντου χρυσίου.

34 And Pharaoh-Nechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king instead of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And he took Jehoahaz; and he came to Egypt, and died there.

Και έκαμεν ο Φαραώ-νεχαώ τον Ελιακείμ τον υιόν του Ιωσίου βασιλέα αντί Ιωσίου του πατρός αυτού, και μετήλλαξε το όνομα αυτού εις Ιωακείμ· τον δε Ιωάχαζ έλαβε και έφερεν εις Αίγυπτον, και απέθανεν εκεί.

35 And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he laid a proportional tax on the land to give the money according to the command of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to his estimation, to give it to Pharaoh-Nechoh.

Ο δε Ιωακείμ έδωκεν εις τον Φαραώ το αργύριον και το χρυσίον· εφορολόγησεν όμως την γην, διά να δώση το αργύριον κατά την προσταγήν του Φαραώ· ο λαός της γης συνεισέφερε το αργύριον και το χρυσίον, έκαστος κατά την εκτίμησιν αυτού, διά να δώση εις τον Φαραώ-νεχαώ.

36 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zebuddah, daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

Εικοσιπέντε ετών ηλικίας ήτο ο Ιωακείμ, ότε εβασίλευσεν· εβασίλευσε δε ένδεκα έτη εν Ιερουσαλήμ· το δε όνομα της μητρός αυτού ήτο Ζεβουδά, θυγάτηρ του Φεδαίου από Ρουμά.

37 And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers had done.

Και έπραξε πονηρά ενώπιον του Κυρίου, κατά πάντα όσα έπραξαν οι πατέρες αυτού.
