2 Corinthians 5

1 For we know that if our earthly tabernacle house be destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (aiōnios g166)

Nous savons en effet que, si la tente qui forme notre demeure terrestre vient à être détruite, nous possédons dans les cieux un édifice qui procède de Dieu, une demeure éternelle qui n'a pas été construite de main d'homme; (aiōnios g166)

2 For indeed in this we groan, ardently desiring to have put on our house which [is] from heaven;

car nous gémissons déjà dans celle-ci, désireux que nous sommes de revêtir le domicile qui nous vient du ciel,

3 if indeed being also clothed we shall not be found naked.

si toutefois nous sommes effectivement trouvés vêtus et non pas nus;

4 For indeed we who are in the tabernacle groan, being burdened; while yet we do not wish to be unclothed, but clothed, that [what is] mortal may be swallowed up by life.

car, dis-je, nous qui sommes dans cette tente, nous gémissons déjà dans l'angoisse, parce que nous ne voulons pas être dépouillés, mais être revêtus, afin que ce qui est mortel soit englouti par la vie.

5 Now he that has wrought us for this very thing [is] God, who also has given to us the earnest of the Spirit.

Or, celui qui nous a préparés pour cela même, c'est Dieu, qui nous en a donné l'Esprit pour gage.

6 Therefore [we are] always confident, and know that while present in the body we are absent from the Lord,

Étant donc toujours pleins de confiance, et sachant qu'en demeurant dans le corps nous habitons loin du seigneur,

7 (for we walk by faith, not by sight; )

car c'est par la foi que nous marchons, non par la vue…

8 we are confident, I say, and pleased rather to be absent from the body and present with the Lord.

nous sommes, dis-je, pleins de confiance, et nous préférons émigrer du corps et demeurer auprès du seigneur.

9 Wherefore also we are zealous, whether present or absent, to be agreeable to him.

C'est pourquoi nous nous appliquons aussi, soit que nous demeurions, soit que nous émigrions, à lui être agréables,

10 For we must all be manifested before the judgment-seat of the Christ, that each may receive the things [done] in the body, according to those he has done, whether [it be] good or evil.

car il faut que tous nous apparaissions tels que nous sommes devant le tribunal de Christ, afin que chacun reçoive la rétribution de ce qu'il a fait en son corps, selon le bien ou le mal qu'il a commis.

11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord we persuade men, but have been manifested to God, and I hope also that we have been manifested in your consciences.

Sachant donc quelle est la crainte qu'on doit avoir du seigneur, nous cherchons à convaincre les hommes, mais aux yeux de Dieu nous apparaissons tels que nous sommes; j'espère toutefois que, tels aussi, nous apparaissons dans vos consciences.

12 [For] we do not again commend ourselves to you, but [we are] giving to you occasion of boast in our behalf, that ye may have [such] with those boasting in countenance, and not in heart.

Nous ne nous recommandons pas derechef à vous, mais nous voulons nous donner une occasion de nous enorgueillir de vous, afin que vous vous en serviez contre ceux qui s'enorgueillissent des apparences et non du cœur.

13 For whether we are beside ourselves, [it is] to God; or are sober, [it is] for you.

En effet, si nous sommes hors de sens, c'est pour Dieu; si nous sommes de bon sens, c'est pour vous;

14 For the love of the Christ constrains us, having judged this: that one died for all, then all have died;

car l'amour de Christ nous subjugue, depuis que nous avons compris que, si un seul est mort pour tous, tous donc sont morts,

15 and he died for all, that they who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who died for them and has been raised.

et qu'il est mort pour tous, afin que les vivants ne vivent plus pour eux-mêmes, mais pour celui qui est mort et qui est ressuscité pour eux;

16 So that we henceforth know no one according to flesh; but if even we have known Christ according to flesh, yet now we know [him thus] no longer.

en sorte que, quant à nous, désormais nous ne connaissons personne selon la chair; quoique nous ayons connu Christ selon la chair, maintenant nous ne le connaissons plus ainsi.

17 So if any one [be] in Christ, [there is] a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold all things have become new:

Ainsi donc, si quelqu'un est en Christ, c'est une nouvelle création; les choses anciennes sont passées, voici, il s'en est fait de nouvelles.

18 and all things [are] of the God who has reconciled us to himself by [Jesus] Christ, and given to us the ministry of that reconciliation:

Or tout cela vient de Dieu qui nous a réconciliés avec Lui-même par Christ, et qui nous a donné le ministère de la réconciliation;

19 how that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their offences; and putting in us the word of that reconciliation.

parce qu'en effet Dieu réconciliait en Christ le monde avec Lui-même, en ne leur imputant point leurs fautes, et Il a mis en nous la parole de la réconciliation.

20 We are ambassadors therefore for Christ, God as [it were] beseeching by us, we entreat for Christ, Be reconciled to God.

C'est donc pour Christ que nous faisons fonction d'ambassadeurs; c'est comme si Dieu exhortait par notre moyen; nous vous en conjurons pour Christ: Soyez réconciliés avec Dieu;

21 Him who knew not sin he has made sin for us, that we might become God's righteousness in him.

celui qui ne connut pas le péché, c'est pour nous qu'il l'a traité comme un pécheur, afin qu'en lui nous, possédions la justice de Dieu.
