1 Corinthians 11

1 Be my imitators, even as I also [am] of Christ.

Soyez mes imitateurs, comme je suis moi-même celui de Christ!

2 Now I praise you, that in all things ye are mindful of me; and that as I have directed you, ye keep the directions.

Je vous loue de ce que vous vous souvenez de moi à tous égards, et de ce que vous retenez les traditions, telles que je vous les ai transmises.

3 But I wish you to know that the Christ is the head of every man, but woman's head [is] the man, and the Christ's head God.

Je veux cependant que vous sachiez que la tête de tout homme c'est Christ, tandis que la tête d'une femme, c'est son mari, et que la tête de Christ, c'est Dieu.

4 Every man praying or prophesying, having [anything] on his head, puts his head to shame.

Tout homme qui prie ou qui prophétise en ayant la tête recouverte, déshonore sa tête,

5 But every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered puts her own head to shame; for it is one and the same as a shaved [woman].

tandis que toute femme qui prie ou qui prophétise sans avoir la tête voilée, déshonore sa propre tête; car elle est une seule et même chose que la femme qui est rasée.

6 For if a woman be not covered, let her hair also be cut off. But if [it be] shameful to a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaved, let her be covered.

En effet, si la femme n'est pas voilée, il faut qu'elle se fasse tondre ou qu'elle se fasse raser; mais s'il est honteux pour une femme d'être tondue ou rasée, il faut qu'elle soit voilée.

7 For man indeed ought not to have his head covered, being God's image and glory; but woman is man's glory.

En effet, si l'homme ne doit pas, parce qu'il est l'image et la gloire de Dieu, avoir la tête voilée, la femme en revanche est la gloire de l'homme; —

8 For man is not of woman, but woman of man.

en effet l'homme n'est pas issu de la femme, mais la femme de l'homme,

9 For also man was not created for the sake of the woman, but woman for the sake of the man.

car l'homme n'a pas été créé à cause de la femme, mais la femme à cause de l'homme; —

10 Therefore ought the woman to have authority on her head, on account of the angels.

c'est pourquoi la femme doit avoir une suprématie sur la tête à cause des anges.

11 However, neither [is] woman without man, nor man without woman, in [the] Lord.

Néanmoins, ni la femme n'existe séparément de l'homme, ni l'homme séparément de la femme, dans le seigneur;

12 For as the woman [is] of the man, so also [is] the man by the woman, but all things of God.

car, de même que la femme est issue de l'homme, de même aussi l'homme naît par l'entremise de la femme, mais le tout procède de Dieu.

13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman should pray to God uncovered?

Jugez-en par vous-mêmes: est-il convenable qu'une femme prie Dieu sans être voilée?

14 Does not even nature itself teach you, that man, if he have long hair, it is a dishonour to him?

La nature elle-même ne vous enseigne-t-elle pas que si l'homme porte une longue chevelure, c'est une honte pour lui,

15 But woman, if she have long hair, [it is] glory to her; for the long hair is given [to her] in lieu of a veil.

tandis que si la femme porte une longue chevelure, c'est une gloire pour elle, parce que la chevelure lui a été donnée en guise de voile.

16 But if any one think to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor the assemblies of God.

Mais si quelqu'un paraît disposé à contester, pour nous, telle n'est pas notre habitude, non plus que celle des églises de Dieu.

17 But [in] prescribing [to you on] this [which I now enter on], I do not praise, [namely, ] that ye come together, not for the better, but for the worse.

Or ce sont ici des ordres, et non des éloges, que j'ai à vous donner, car vous faites tourner vos réunions, non à votre amélioration, mais à votre détriment.

18 For first, when ye come together in assembly, I hear there exist divisions among you, and I partly give credit [to it].

J'apprends en effet, en premier lieu, que, lorsque vous vous réunissez en assemblée d'église, il existe des divisions parmi vous, — et je le crois en partie,

19 For there must also be sects among you, that the approved may become manifest among you.

car il faut qu'il y ait aussi des schismes parmi vous, afin que l'on reconnaisse aussi ceux qui chez vous ont tenu bon; —

20 When ye come therefore together into one place, it is not to eat [the] Lord's supper.

lors donc que vous vous réunissez ensemble, on ne peut pas manger un repas dominical,

21 For each one in eating takes his own supper before [others], and one is hungry and another drinks to excess.

car, en mangeant, chacun prend pour lui-même son propre repas, en sorte que l'un est affamé, tandis que l'autre est ivre.

22 Have ye not then houses for eating and drinking? or do ye despise the assembly of God, and put to shame them who have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you? In this [point] I do not praise.

Est-ce que vous n'avez pas des maisons pour y manger et boire? Ou bien méprisez-vous l'église de Dieu, et voulez-vous outrager les indigents? Que vous dirai-je? Est-ce que je vous loue? Sur ce point, je ne vous loue pas,

23 For I received from the Lord, that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus, in the night in which he was delivered up, took bread,

car j'ai moi-même reçu du seigneur ce que je vous ai aussi transmis, c'est que le seigneur, dans la nuit où il fut livré, prit un pain,

24 and having given thanks broke [it], and said, This is my body, which [is] for you: this do in remembrance of me.

et après avoir rendu grâces, il le rompit et dit: « Ceci est mon corps, qui est pour vous, faites ceci en mémoire de moi; »

25 In like manner also the cup, after having supped, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood: this do, as often as ye shall drink [it], in remembrance of me.

de même aussi la coupe après le repas, en disant: « Cette coupe est la nouvelle alliance en mon sang, faites ceci, toutes les fois que vous en buvez, en mémoire de moi. »

26 For as often as ye shall eat this bread, and drink the cup, ye announce the death of the Lord, until he come.

Toutes les fois, en effet, que vous mangez ce pain et que vous buvez cette coupe, vous annoncez la mort du seigneur, jusques à ce qu'il soit venu;

27 So that whosoever shall eat the bread, or drink the cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty in respect of the body and of the blood of the Lord.

en sorte que quiconque aura mangé le pain, ou bu la coupe du seigneur indignement, sera coupable envers le corps et le sang du seigneur.

28 But let a man prove himself, and thus eat of the bread, and drink of the cup.

Mais que chacun s'examine lui-même, et qu'en conséquence il mange le pain et boive la coupe,

29 For [the] eater and drinker eats and drinks judgment to himself, not distinguishing the body.

car celui qui mange et boit mange et boit pour lui-même une condamnation, s'il ne reconnaît pas ce qu'est le corps;

30 On this account many among you [are] weak and infirm, and a good many are fallen asleep.

c'est pourquoi il y en a plusieurs parmi vous qui sont infirmes et malades, et qu'un grand nombre sont morts.

31 But if we judged ourselves, so were we not judged.

Mais si nous nous examinions nous-mêmes, nous ne serions pas jugés;

32 But being judged, we are disciplined of [the] Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

toutefois en étant jugés, nous sommes châtiés par le Seigneur afin de n'être pas condamnés avec le monde.

33 So that, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, wait for one another.

Ainsi, mes frères, lorsque vous vous réunissez pour le repas, attendez-vous les uns les autres;

34 If any one be hungry, let him eat at home, that ye may not come together for judgment. But the other things, whenever I come, I will set in order.

si quelqu'un a faim qu'il mange chez lui, afin que vous ne vous réunissiez pas pour votre condamnation. Quant au reste, dès que je serai arrivé, je le réglerai.
