< Psalms 119 >

1 Alleluia. Blessed are the immaculate in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.
Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk in the law of Yahweh.
2 Blessed are those who examine his testimonies. They seek him with their whole heart.
Blessed are they who keep his solemn commands, who seek him with all their heart.
3 For those who work iniquity have not walked in his ways.
They do no wrong; they walk in his ways.
4 You have ordered your commandments to be kept most diligently.
You have commanded us to keep your instructions so that we should carefully observe them.
5 I wish that my ways may be directed so as to keep your justifications.
Oh, that I would be firmly established in the observance of your statutes!
6 Then I will not be confounded, when I will look into all your commandments.
Then I would not be put to shame when I think of all your commandments.
7 I will confess to you with honesty of heart. In this way, I have learned the judgments of your justice.
I will give thanks to you with an upright heart when I learn your righteous decrees.
8 I will keep your justifications. Do not utterly abandon me.
I will observe your statutes; do not leave me alone.
9 By what does an adolescent correct his way? By keeping to your words.
How can a young person keep his path pure? By obeying your word.
10 With my whole heart, I have sought you. Do not let me be driven away from your commandments.
With my whole heart I seek you; Do not let me stray from your commandments.
11 I have hidden your eloquence in my heart, so that I may not sin against you.
I have stored up your word in my heart so that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord. Teach me your justifications.
Blessed you are, Yahweh; teach me your statutes.
13 With my lips, I have pronounced all the judgments of your mouth.
With my mouth I have declared all the righteous decrees that you have revealed.
14 I have been delighted in the way of your testimonies, as if in all riches.
I rejoice in the way of your covenant decrees more than in all riches.
15 I will be trained in your commandments, and I will consider your ways.
I will meditate on your instructions and pay attention to your ways.
16 I will meditate on your justifications. I will not forget your words.
I delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
17 Repay your servant, revive me; and I will keep your words.
Be kind to your servant so that I may live and keep your word.
18 Reveal to my eyes, and I will consider the wonders of your law.
Open my eyes so that I may see marvelous things in your law.
19 I am a sojourner on the earth. Do not hide your commandments from me.
I am a foreigner in the land; do not hide your commandments from me.
20 My soul has longed to desire your justifications at all times.
My desires are crushed by the longing to know your righteous decrees at all times.
21 You have rebuked the arrogant. Those who decline from your commandments are accursed.
You rebuke the proud, who are cursed, who wander from your commandments.
22 Take me away from disgrace and contempt, for I have sought your testimonies.
Spare me from disgrace and humiliation, for I have obeyed your covenant decrees.
23 For even the leaders sat and spoke against me. But your servant has been trained in your justifications.
Though rulers plot and slander me, your servant meditates on your statutes.
24 For your testimonies are also my (meditation) and your justifications are my counsel.
Your covenant decrees are my delight, and they are my counselors.
25 My soul has adhered to the pavement. Revive me according to your word.
My life clings to the dust! Give me life by your word.
26 I have declared my ways, and you have heeded me. Teach me your justifications.
I told you my ways, and you answered me; teach me your statutes.
27 Instruct me in the way of your justifications, and I will be trained in your wonders.
Make me understand the ways of your instructions, so that I can meditate on your wondrous teachings.
28 My soul has slumbered because of weariness. Confirm me in your words.
I am overwhelmed with grief! Strengthen me by your word.
29 Remove the way of iniquity from me, and have mercy on me by your law.
Turn from me the path of deceit; graciously teach me your law.
30 I have chosen the way of truth. I have not forgotten your judgments.
I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have always kept your righteous decrees before me.
31 I have adhered to your testimonies, O Lord. Do not be willing to confound me.
I cling to your covenant decrees; Yahweh, do not let me be shamed.
32 I have run by way of your commandments, when you enlarged my heart.
I will run in the path of your commandments, for you enlarge my heart to do so.
33 O Lord, place the law before me, the way of your justifications, and I will always inquire into it.
Teach me, Yahweh, the way of your statutes, and I will keep them to the end.
34 Give me understanding, and I will examine your law. And I will keep it with my whole heart.
Give me understanding, and I will keep your law; I will observe it with all my heart.
35 Lead me according to the path of your commandments, for I have desired this.
Guide me in the path of your commandments, for I delight to walk in it.
36 Bend my heart with your testimonies, and not with avarice.
Direct my heart toward your covenant decrees and away from unrighteous gain.
37 Turn my eyes away, lest they see what is vain. Revive me in your way.
Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; revive me in your ways.
38 Station your eloquence with your servant, along with your fear.
Carry out for your servant your promise that you made to those who honor you.
39 Cut off my disgrace, which I have taken up, for your judgments are delightful.
Take away the insults I dread, for your righteous judgments are good.
40 Behold, I have longed for your commandments. Revive me in your fairness.
See, I have longed for your instructions; revive me in your righteousness.
41 And let your mercy overwhelm me, O Lord: your salvation according to your eloquence.
Yahweh, give me your unfailing love— your salvation, according to your promise;
42 And I will respond to those who reproach me by word, for I have hoped in your words.
then I will have a reply for the one who mocks me, for I trust in your word.
43 And do not utterly take away the word of truth from my mouth. For in your judgments, I have hoped beyond hope.
Do not take the word of truth from my mouth, for my hope is in your righteous decrees.
44 And I will always keep your law, in this age and forever and ever.
I will observe your law continually, forever and ever.
45 And I have wandered far and wide, because I was seeking your commandments.
I will walk securely, for I seek your instructions.
46 And I spoke of your testimonies in the sight of kings, and I was not confounded.
I will speak of your solemn commands before kings and will not be ashamed.
47 And I meditated on your commandments, which I loved.
I delight in your commandments, which I love dearly.
48 And I lifted up my hands to your commandments, which I loved. And I was trained in your justifications.
I will lift up my hands to your commandments, which I love; I will meditate on your statutes.
49 Be mindful of your word to your servant, by which you have given me hope.
Call to mind your promise to your servant because you have given me hope.
50 This has consoled me in my humiliation, for your word has revived me.
This is my comfort in my affliction: that your promise has kept me alive.
51 The arrogant act altogether iniquitously, but I have not turned aside from your law.
The proud have scoffed at me, yet I have not turned away from your law.
52 I called to mind your judgments of antiquity, O Lord, and I was consoled.
I have thought about your righteous decrees from ancient times, Yahweh, and I comfort myself.
53 Faintness has taken hold of me, because of the sinners, those who abandon your law.
Hot anger has taken hold of me because of the wicked who reject your law.
54 Your justifications were the subject of my worthy singing, in the place of my pilgrimage.
Your statutes have been my songs in the house where I temporarily live.
55 During the night, I remembered your name, O Lord, and I kept your law.
I think about your name during the night, Yahweh, and I keep your law.
56 This has happened to me because I sought your justifications.
This has been my practice because I have observed your instructions.
57 O Lord, my portion, I have said that I would keep your law.
Yahweh is my portion; I have determined to observe your words.
58 I have beseeched your face with my whole heart. Be merciful to me according to your word.
I earnestly request your favor with my whole heart; be merciful to me, as your word promised.
59 I have considered my ways, and I have turned my feet toward your testimonies.
I examined my ways and turned my feet to your covenant decrees.
60 I have been prepared, and I have not been disturbed, so that I may keep your commandments.
I hurry and do not delay to keep your commandments.
61 The ropes of the impious have encircled me, and I have not forgotten your law.
The cords of the wicked have ensnared me; I have not forgotten your law.
62 I arose in the middle of the night to confess to you, over the judgments of your justification.
At midnight I rise to give thanks to you because of your righteous decrees.
63 I am a partaker with all those who fear you and who keep your commandments.
I am a companion of all who honor you, to all who observe your instructions.
64 The earth, O Lord, is full of your mercy. Teach me your justifications.
The earth, Yahweh, is full of your covenant faithfulness; teach me your statutes.
65 You have done well with your servant, O Lord, according to your word.
You have done good to your servant, Yahweh, by means of your word.
66 Teach me goodness and discipline and knowledge, for I have trusted your commandments.
Teach me proper discernment and understanding, for I have believed in your commandments.
67 Before I was humbled, I committed offenses; because of this, I have kept to your word.
Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I observe your word.
68 You are good, so in your goodness teach me your justifications.
You are good, and you are one who does good; teach me your statutes.
69 The iniquity of the arrogant has been multiplied over me. Yet I will examine your commandments with all my heart.
The arrogant have smeared me with lies, but I keep your instructions with my whole heart.
70 Their heart has been curdled like milk. Truly, I have meditated on your law.
Their hearts are hardened, but I delight in your law.
71 It is good for me that you humbled me, so that I may learn your justifications.
It is good for me that I have suffered so that I would learn your statutes.
72 The law of your mouth is good for me, beyond thousands of gold and silver pieces.
Instruction from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.
73 Your hands have created me and formed me. Give me understanding, and I will learn your commandments.
Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding so that I may learn your commandments.
74 Those who fear you will see me, and they will rejoice. For I have greatly hoped in your words.
Those who honor you will be glad when they see me because I find hope in your word.
75 I know, O Lord, that your judgments are fairness. And in your truth, you have humbled me.
I know, Yahweh, that your decrees are just, and that in faithfulness you afflicted me.
76 Let it be your mercy that consoles me, according to your eloquence to your servant.
Let your covenant faithfulness comfort me, as you promised your servant.
77 Let your compassion draw near to me, and I will live. For your law is my (meditation)
Show me compassion so that I may live, for your law is my delight.
78 Let the arrogant be confounded, for unjustly they have done iniquity to me. But I will be trained in your commandments.
Let the proud be put to shame, for they have slandered me; but I will meditate on your instructions.
79 Let those who fear you turn to me, along with those who know your testimonies.
May those who honor you turn to me, those who know your covenant decrees.
80 Let my heart be immaculate in your justifications, so that I may not be confounded.
May my heart be blameless with respect to your statutes so that I may not be put to shame.
81 My soul has faltered in your salvation, yet in your word, I have hoped beyond hope.
I faint with longing that you might rescue me! I hope in your word.
82 My eyes have failed in your eloquence, saying, “When will you console me?”
My eyes long to see your promise; when will you comfort me?
83 For I have become like a wineskin in the frost. I have not forgotten your justifications.
For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke; I do not forget your statutes.
84 How many are the days of your servant? When will you bring judgment against those who persecute me?
How long must your servant endure this; when will you judge those who persecute me?
85 The iniquitous have spoken fables to me. But these are unlike your law.
The proud have dug pits for me, defying your law.
86 All your commandments are truth. They have been persecuting me unjustly: assist me.
All your commandments are reliable; those people persecute me wrongfully; help me.
87 They have nearly consumed me on earth. Yet I have not forsaken your commandments.
They have almost made an end to me on earth, but I do not reject your instructions.
88 Revive me according to your mercy. And I will keep the testimonies of your mouth.
By your steadfast love, keep me alive, so that I may obey your commands.
89 O Lord, your word remains firm in heaven, for all eternity.
Yahweh, your word stands forever; your word is established firmly in heaven.
90 Your truth is from generation to generation. You have founded the earth, and it remains firm.
Your faithfulness lasts for all generations; you have established the earth, and it remains.
91 By your ordinance, the day perseveres. For all things are in service to you.
All things continue to this day, just as you said in your righteous decrees, for all things are your servants.
92 If your law had not been my (meditation) then perhaps I would have perished in my humiliation.
If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
93 I will not forget your justifications, for eternity. For by them, you have enlivened me.
I will never forget your instructions, for through them you have kept me alive.
94 I am yours. Accomplish my salvation. For I have inquired into your justifications.
I am yours; save me, for I seek your instructions.
95 The sinners have waited for me, in order to destroy me. I have understood your testimonies.
The wicked prepare to destroy me, but I will seek to understand your covenant decrees.
96 I have seen the end of the consummation of all things. Your commandment is exceedingly broad.
I have seen that everything has its limits, but your commandments are broad, beyond limits.
97 How have I loved your law, O Lord? It is my meditation all day long.
Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all day long.
98 By your commandment, you have made me able to see far, beyond my enemies. For it is with me for eternity.
Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, for your commandments are always with me.
99 I have understood beyond all my teachers. For your testimonies are my (meditation)
I have more understanding than all my teachers, for I meditate on your covenant decrees.
100 I have understood beyond the elders. For I have searched your commandments.
I understand more than those older than I am; this is because I have kept your instructions.
101 I have prohibited my feet from every evil way, so that I may keep your words.
I have kept my feet back from every evil path so that I might observe your word.
102 I have not declined from your judgments, because you have stationed a law for me.
I have not turned aside from your righteous decrees, for you have instructed me.
103 How sweet is your eloquence to my palate, more so than honey to my mouth!
How sweet are your words to my taste, yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 I obtained understanding by your commandments. Because of this, I have hated every way of iniquity.
Through your instructions I gain discernment; therefore I hate every false way.
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my paths.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
106 I have sworn it, and so I am determined to keep the judgments of your justice.
I have sworn and have confirmed it, that I will observe your righteous decrees.
107 I have been altogether humbled, Lord. Revive me according to your word.
I am very afflicted; keep me alive, Yahweh, as you have promised in your word.
108 Make the willing offerings of my mouth well pleasing, Lord, and teach me your judgments.
Yahweh, please accept the freewill offerings of my mouth, and teach me your righteous decrees.
109 My soul is always in my hands, and I have not forgotten your law.
My life is always in my hand, yet I do not forget your law.
110 Sinners have set a snare for me, yet I have not strayed from your commandments.
The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your instructions.
111 I have acquired your testimonies as an inheritance unto eternity, because they are the exultation of my heart.
I claim your covenant decrees as my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.
112 I have inclined my heart to do your justifications for eternity, as a recompense.
My heart is set on obeying your statutes forever to the very end.
113 I have hated the iniquitous, and I have loved your law.
I hate those who have a double mind, but I love your law.
114 You are my helper and my supporter. And in your word, I have greatly hoped.
You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.
115 Turn away from me, you malignant ones. And I will examine the commandments of my God.
Get away from me, you evil doers, so that I may observe the commandments of my God.
116 Uphold me according to your eloquence, and I will live. And let me not be confounded in my expectation.
Sustain me by your word so that I may live and not be ashamed of my hope.
117 Help me, and I will be saved. And I will meditate always on your justifications.
Support me, and I will be safe; I will always meditate on your statutes.
118 You have despised all those who fell away from your judgments. For their intention is unjust.
You reject all those who stray from your statutes, for those people are deceptive and unreliable.
119 I have considered all the sinners of the earth to be transgressors. Therefore, I have loved your testimonies.
You remove all the wicked of the earth like slag; therefore I love your solemn commands.
120 Pierce my flesh with your fear, for I am afraid of your judgments.
My body trembles in fear of you, and I am afraid of your righteous decrees.
121 I have accomplished judgment and justice. Do not hand me over to those who slander me.
I do what is just and right; do not abandon me to my oppressors.
122 Uphold your servant in what is good. And do not allow the arrogant to slander me.
Guarantee the welfare of your servant; do not let the proud oppress me.
123 My eyes have failed in your salvation and in the eloquence of your justice.
My eyes grow tired as I wait for your salvation and for your righteous word.
124 Deal with your servant according to your mercy, and teach me your justifications.
Show your servant your covenant faithfulness, and teach me your statutes.
125 I am your servant. Give me understanding, so that I may know your testimonies.
I am your servant; give me understanding so that I may know your covenant decrees.
126 It is time to act, O Lord. They have dissipated your law.
It is time for Yahweh to act, for people have broken your law.
127 Therefore, I have loved your commandments beyond gold and topaz.
Truly I love your commandments more than gold, more than fine gold.
128 Because of this, I was directed toward all your commandments. I held hatred for every iniquitous way.
Therefore I carefully follow all your instructions, and I hate every path of falsehood.
129 Your testimonies are wonderful. Therefore, my soul has been examined by them.
Your rules are wonderful, that is why I obey them.
130 The declaration of your words illuminates, and it gives understanding to little ones.
The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the untrained.
131 I opened my mouth and drew breath, for I desired your commandments.
I open my mouth and pant, for I long for your commandments.
132 Gaze upon me and be merciful to me, according to the judgment of those who love your name.
Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do for those who love your name.
133 Direct my steps according to your eloquence, and let no injustice rule over me.
Direct my footsteps by your word; do not let any sin rule me.
134 Redeem me from the slanders of men, so that I may keep your commandments.
Redeem me from human oppression so that I may observe your instructions.
135 Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your justifications.
Let your face shine on your servant, and teach me your statutes.
136 My eyes have gushed like springs of water, because they have not kept your law.
Streams of tears run down from my eyes because people do not observe your law.
137 You are just, O Lord, and your judgment is right.
You are righteous, Yahweh, and your decrees are fair.
138 You have commanded justice: your testimonies and your truth even more so.
You have given your covenant decrees righteously and faithfully.
139 My zeal has caused me to pine away, because my enemies have forgotten your words.
Anger has destroyed me because my adversaries forget your words.
140 Your eloquence has been greatly enflamed, and your servant has loved it.
Your word has been tested very much, and your servant loves it.
141 I am young and treated with contempt. But I have not forgotten your justifications.
I am insignificant and despised, yet I do not forget your instructions.
142 Your justice is justice for all eternity, and your law is truth.
Your justice is forever right, and your law is trustworthy.
143 Tribulation and anguish have found me. Your commandments are my (meditation)
Though distress and anguish have found me, your commandments are still my delight.
144 Your testimonies are fairness unto eternity. Give me understanding, and I will live.
Your covenant decrees are righteous forever; give me understanding that I may live.
145 I cried out with my whole heart. Heed me, O Lord. I will ask for your justifications.
I cried out with my whole heart, “Answer me, Yahweh, I will keep your statutes.
146 I cried out to you. Save me, so that I may keep your commandments.
I call to you; save me, and I will observe your covenant decrees.”
147 I arrived first in maturity, and so I cried out. For in your words, I have hoped beyond hope.
I rise before the dawn of the morning and cry for help. I hope in your words.
148 My eyes preceded the dawn for you, so that I might meditate on your eloquence.
My eyes are open before the night watches change so that I might meditate on your word.
149 Hear my voice according to your mercy, O Lord. And revive me according to your judgment.
Hear my voice in your covenant faithfulness; keep me alive, Yahweh, as you have promised in your righteous decrees.
150 Those who persecute me have drawn near to iniquity, but they have been brought far from your law.
Those who are persecuting me are coming closer to me, but they are far from your law.
151 You are near, O Lord, and all your ways are truth.
You are near, Yahweh, and all your commandments are trustworthy.
152 I have known from the beginning about your testimonies. For you founded them in eternity.
Long ago I learned from your covenant decrees that you had set them in place forever.
153 See my humiliation and rescue me, for I have not forgotten your law.
Look on my affliction and help me, for I do not forget your law.
154 Judge my judgment and redeem me. Revive me because of your eloquence.
Plead my cause and redeem me; keep me, as you have promised in your word.
155 Salvation is far from sinners, because they have not inquired about your justifications.
Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not love your statutes.
156 Many are your mercies, O Lord. Enliven me according to your judgment.
Great are your merciful actions, Yahweh; keep me alive, as you always do.
157 Many are those who persecute me and who trouble me. I have not turned away from your testimonies.
My persecutors and my foes are many, yet I have not turned from your covenant decrees.
158 I saw the prevaricators, and I pine away. For they have not kept your word.
I view the treacherous with disgust because they do not keep your word.
159 O Lord, see how I have loved your commandments. Revive me in your mercy.
See how I love your instructions; keep me alive, Yahweh, as you have promised by your covenant faithfulness.
160 The beginning of your words is truth. All the judgments of your justice are for eternity.
The essence of your word is truth; every one of your righteous decrees lasts forever.
161 The leaders have persecuted me without cause. And my heart has been awed by your words.
Princes persecute me without cause, but my heart stands in awe of your word.
162 I will rejoice over your eloquence, like one who has found many spoils.
I rejoice at your word like one who finds great plunder.
163 I have held hatred for iniquity, and I have abhorred it. Yet I have loved your law.
I hate and despise falsehood, but I love your law.
164 Seven times a day, I uttered praise to you about the judgments of your justice.
Seven times a day I praise you because of your righteous decrees.
165 Those who love your law have great peace, and there is no scandal for them.
Great peace they have, those who love your law; nothing makes them stumble.
166 I have waited for your salvation, O Lord. And I have loved your commandments.
I hope for your salvation, Yahweh, and I obey your commandments.
167 My soul has kept to your testimonies and has loved them exceedingly.
I observe your solemn commands, and I love them greatly.
168 I have served your commandments and your testimonies. For all my ways are before your sight.
I keep your instructions and your solemn commands, for you are aware of everything I do.
169 O Lord, let my supplication draw near in your sight. Grant understanding to me according to your eloquence.
Listen to my cry for help, Yahweh; give me understanding into your word.
170 Let my petition enter before you. Rescue me according to your word.
May my plea come before you; help me, as you have promised in your word.
171 A hymn will burst forth from my lips, when you will teach me your justifications.
May my lips pour out praise, for you teach me your statutes.
172 My tongue will pronounce your eloquence. For all your commandments are fairness.
Let my tongue sing about your word, for all your commandments are right.
173 Let it be your hand that saves me. For I have chosen your commandments.
May your hand help me, for I have chosen your instructions.
174 O Lord, I have longed for your salvation, and your law is my (meditation)
I long for your rescue, Yahweh, and your law is my delight.
175 My soul will live and will praise you, and your judgments will assist me.
May I live and praise you, and may your righteous decrees help me.
176 I have gone astray like a sheep that is lost. Seek out your servant, for I have not forgotten your commandments.
I have wandered off like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commandments.
