< Nahum 1 >

1 The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
K A OLELO no Nineva. O ka Buke o ka wanana a Nahuma, no Elekosa.
2 God is a rival, and the Lord is avenging. The Lord is avenging, and one who applies wrath. The Lord is avenging with his enemies, and he becomes angry with his adversaries.
Ua lili ke Akua, a o Iehova ka mea hoopai, O Iehova ka mea hoopai, a he huhu kona; O Iehova ka mea hoopai i kona poe ku e, A oia ke malama i ka huhu no kona poe enemi.
3 The Lord is patient and great in strength, and those who are not clean, he makes innocent. The Lord is in a tempest, and his way is a whirlwind, and the clouds are dust at his feet.
Ua hookaulua o Iehova i ka huhu, a he nui ka mana, Aole loa ia e kala wale aku: Aia no ke ala o Iehova, iloko o ka puahiohio, a me ka ino, A o na ao ka lepo o kona mau wawae.
4 He is the one who rebukes the sea, and who dries it up, and who leads all the rivers to the desert. Basan has been weakened, and also Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon has languished.
Papa aku no ia i ke kai, a hoomaloo iho la ia mea, A hoomaloo iho i na muliwai a pau: Ua mae o Basana, a me Karemela; A ua mae ka pua o Lebanona.
5 The mountains have trembled before him, and the hills have become desolate, and the earth has quaked before his face, both the world and all that dwells in it.
Ua hoonaueia na mauna e ia, A ua hee iho la na puu; Neenee ka aina ia ia iho mai kona alo ae, A o ka honua, a me na mea a pau e noho ana iloko.
6 Who can stand firm before the face of his indignation? And who can continue against the fury of his wrath? His indignation has broken out like a fire, and the rocks have been dissolved before him.
Owai la ka mea e ku imua o kona inaina? Owai la ka mea e ku mai i ka wela o kona huhu? Ua nininiia kona huhu me he ahi la, Ua hiolo iho na pohaku ma ona la.
7 The Lord is good, and a comforter in the day of tribulation, and he knows those who hope in him.
Ua maikai o Iehova, he paku oia i ka la popilikia; A ua ike no ia i ka poe hilinai ia ia.
8 And in the flood that passes over, he brings to consummation the end of his place. And darkness shall pursue his adversaries.
Me ka wai nui e holo ana, a hooki loa aku ia i kona wahi, A e hahai ka pouli i kona poe enemi.
9 What are you thinking up against the Lord? He will accomplish the consummation. There shall not rise up a double tribulation.
Heaha ko oukou manao ku e ia Iehova? E hooki loa aku ia, aole e hiki palua mai ka popilikia.
10 For just as thorns entwine one another, so also, while they are feasting and drinking together, they will be consumed like stubble that is completely dry.
No ka mea, e like me na laau kuku, ua huipuia lakou, A ua ona lakou e like me ka poe ona, E hoopauia lakou e like me ka opala maloo loa.
11 Out of you will go forth one who thinks up evil against the Lord, dragging betrayals through his mind.
Ua puka mai ka mea mai ou mai la e manao hewa ana ia Iehova; He kakaolelo hewa,
12 Thus says the Lord: If they had been perfect, and many of them so, yet still they would be pruned, and it will cross through them. I have afflicted you, and I shall afflict you no more.
Peneia i olelo mai o Iehova, Ina ua maluhia lakou, a nui hoi, A e hookiia lakou pela, a e hele ae la ia: A ua hoohaahaa aku au ia oe, aole nae au e hoohaahaa hou aku ia oe.
13 And now I will shatter his rod from your back, and I will break open your bonds.
Ano hoi, e hemo ia'u kana auamo mai ou aku la: A e moku ia'u kou mau kaula.
14 And the Lord will place a commandment over you; nothing more from your name will be sown. From the house of your God, I will order destroyed the graven image and the molten image. I will prepare your grave, because you are not honorable.
A ua kauoha mai o Iehova nou, Aole e lulu hou ia kou inoa: Mailoko mai o ka hale o kou mau akua, e oki aku au i ke kii kalai, a me ke kii hoohehee: E hana iho au i kou halekupapau, no ka mea, ua hoowahawahaia oe.
15 Behold, over the mountains, the feet of the Evangelizer and the Announcer of peace. Judah, celebrate your festivals and keep your vows. For Belial will never again pass through you; he has completely passed away.
Aia hoi, maluna o na mauua na wawae o ka mea e hai ana i ka mea maikai, E hoike ana hoi i ka malu! E Iuda, e malama i kau mau ahaaina; E hooko i kau mau hoohiki ana: No ka mea, aole e hele hou ka mea aia ma ou la, Ua oki loa ia'ku oia.
