Matthew 21
1 And when they had drawn near to Jerusalem, and had arrived at Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
Et quand ils approchèrent de Jérusalem, et qu'ils furent arrivés à Bethphagé, sur la montagne des Oliviers, alors Jésus dépêcha deux disciples,
2 saying to them: “Go into the town that is opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Release them, and lead them to me.
en leur disant: « Allez dans le village qui est en face de vous, et vous trouverez aussitôt une ânesse attachée et un ânon avec elle; détachez-les et amenez-les-moi.
3 And if anyone will have said anything to you, say that the Lord has need of them. And he will promptly dismiss them.”
Et si quelqu'un vous dit quelque chose, vous direz: Le Seigneur en a besoin; et aussitôt il les enverra. » —
4 Now all this was done in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet, saying,
Or, tout cela est advenu, afin que fût accompli ce dont il a été parlé par l'entremise du prophète, lorsqu'il dit:
5 “Tell the daughter of Zion: Behold, your king comes to you meekly, sitting on a donkey and on a colt, the son of one accustomed to the yoke.”
« Dites à la fille de Sion: Voici, ton roi vient à toi, doux et monté sur un âne et sur un ânon, fils d'une bête de somme. » —
6 Then the disciples, going out, did just as Jesus instructed them.
Or, les disciples s'en étant allés et ayant exécuté les ordres de Jésus
7 And they brought the donkey and the colt, and they laid their garments on them, and they helped him sit upon them.
ramenèrent l'ânesse et l'ânon, et ils placèrent sur eux leurs manteaux, et il s'assit dessus.
8 Then a very numerous crowd spread their garments on the way. But others cut branches from the trees and scattered them on the way.
Or, la plus grande partie de la foule étendit ses manteaux sur le chemin, tandis que d'autres coupaient des branches aux arbres et les étendaient sur le chemin.
9 And the crowds that preceded him, and those that followed, cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!”
Mais la foule qui le précédait et celle qui le suivait s'écriait: « Hosanna au fils de David! Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur! Hosanna dans les lieux très-hauts! »
10 And when he had entered into Jerusalem, the entire city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”
Et lorsqu'il fut entré dans Jérusalem toute la ville fut en émoi, et elle disait: « Qui est celui-ci? »
11 But the people were saying, “This is Jesus, the Prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”
Or la foule disait: « Celui-ci, c'est le prophète Jésus, qui est de Nazareth en Galilée. »
12 And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and he cast out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of the vendors of doves.
Et Jésus entra dans le temple, et il expulsa tous ceux qui vendaient et qui achetaient dans le temple, et il renversa les tables des changeurs, et les sièges de ceux qui vendaient les colombes;
13 And he said to them: “It is written: ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer. But you have made it into a den of robbers.’”
et il leur dit: « Il est écrit: Ma maison sera appelée une maison de prière, mais vous, vous en faites une caverne de brigands. »
14 And the blind and the lame drew near to him in the temple; and he healed them.
Et des aveugles et des boiteux s'approchèrent de lui dans le temple, et il les guérit.
15 Then the leaders of the priests and the scribes became indignant, seeing the miracles that he wrought, and the children crying out in the temple, saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”
Mais les grands prêtres et les scribes, voyant les merveilles qu'il avait faites et les enfants qui criaient dans le temple: « Hosanna au fils de David! » en furent indignés,
16 And they said to him, “Do you hear what these ones are saying?” But Jesus said to them, “Certainly. Have you never read: For out of the mouth of babes and infants, you have perfected praise?”
et ils lui dirent: « Entends-tu ce qu'ils disent? » Mais Jésus leur dit: « Oui. N'avez-vous jamais lu: De la bouche des petits enfants et des nourrissons Tu T'es préparé une louange? »
17 And leaving them behind, he went out, beyond the city, into Bethania, and he lodged here.
Et les ayant quittés, il sortit de la ville pour aller à Béthanie, et il y passa la nuit.
18 Then, as he was returning to the city in the morning, he was hungry.
Or, le matin, comme il avait repris le chemin de la ville, il eut faim,
19 And seeing a certain fig tree beside the way, he approached it. And he found nothing on it, except only leaves. And he said to it, “May fruit never spring forth from you, for all time.” And immediately the fig tree was dried up. (aiōn g165)
et ayant vu un figuier sur le chemin il s'en approcha et il n'y trouva rien que des feuilles, et il lui dit: « Qu'il ne provienne plus jamais de toi aucun fruit! » Et subitement le figuier sécha. (aiōn g165)
20 And seeing this, the disciples wondered, saying, “How did it dry up so quickly?”
Ce que les disciples ayant vu, ils s'en étonnèrent en disant: « Comment ce figuier a-t-il subitement séché? »
21 And Jesus responded to them by saying: “Amen I say to you, if you have faith and do not hesitate, not only shall you do this, concerning the fig tree, but even if you would say to this mountain, ‘Take and cast yourself into the sea,’ it shall be done.
Mais Jésus leur répliqua: « En vérité je vous déclare que si vous aviez de la foi et que vous ne doutiez point, non seulement vous feriez ce qui a été fait au figuier, mais encore si vous disiez à cette montagne: « Déplace-toi et te jette dans la mer, » cela se ferait.
22 And all things whatsoever that you shall ask for in prayer: believing, you shall receive.”
Et tout ce que vous aurez demandé avec foi par la prière, vous le recevrez. »
23 And when he had arrived at the temple, as he was teaching, the leaders of the priests and the elders of the people approached him, saying: “By what authority do you do these things? And who has given this authority to you?”
Et, lorsqu'il fut arrivé dans le temple, les grands prêtres et les anciens du peuple s'approchèrent de lui pendant qu'il enseignait, en disant: « En vertu de quelle autorité-fais-tu ces choses, et qui est-ce qui t'a donné cette autorité? »
24 In response, Jesus said to them: “I also will question you with one word: if you tell me this, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.
Mais Jésus leur répliqua: « Je vous adresserai de mon côté une seule question, et si vous y répondez, je vous répondrai à mon tour en vertu de quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
25 The baptism of John, where was it from? Was it from heaven, or from men?” But they thought within themselves, saying:
Le baptême de Jean d'où venait-il? Du ciel ou des hommes? » Mais ils réfléchissaient en eux-mêmes et disaient:
26 “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we have the crowd to fear, for they all hold John to be a prophet.”
« Si nous répondons: du ciel, il nous dira: Pourquoi donc ne l'avez-vous pas cru? Tandis que si nous répondons: des hommes, nous avons à craindre la foule; car tous tiennent Jean pour un prophète. »
27 And so, they answered Jesus by saying, “We do not know.” So he also said to them: “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
Et ils répliquèrent à Jésus: « Nous ne savons. » Lui de son côté leur dit: « Moi non plus je ne vous dis pas en vertu de quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
28 But how does it seem to you? A certain man had two sons. And approaching the first, he said: ‘Son, go out today to work in my vineyard.’
Mais que vous en semble? Un homme avait deux enfants, et s'étant approché du premier, il lui dit: « Mon enfant, va travailler aujourd'hui dans ma vigne. »
29 And responding, he said, ‘I am not willing.’ But afterwards, being moved by repentance, he went.
Or celui-ci répliqua: « Oui, Seigneur, » et il n'y alla pas.
30 And approaching the other, he spoke similarly. And answering, he said, ‘I am going, lord.’ And he did not go.
Puis s'étant approché du second, il lui parla de même; or celui-ci répliqua: « Je ne veux pas, » mais plus tard, s'étant repenti, il y alla.
31 Which of the two did the will of the father?” They said to him, “The first.” Jesus said to them: “Amen I say to you, that tax collectors and prostitutes shall precede you, into the kingdom of God.
Lequel des deux a fait la volonté de son père? » Ils disent: « Le dernier. » Jésus leur dit: « En vérité, je vous déclare que les publicains et les prostituées entrent avant vous dans le royaume de Dieu;
32 For John came to you in the way of justice, and you did not believe him. But the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. Yet even after seeing this, you did not repent, so as to believe him.
car Jean est venu à vous, enseignant la justice, et vous ne l'avez pas cru, tandis que les publicains et les prostituées l'ont cru. Mais vous, qui avez vu cela, vous ne vous êtes pas même repentis plus tard pour le croire!
33 Listen to another parable. There was a man, the father of a family, who planted a vineyard, and surrounded it with a hedge, and dug a press in it, and built a tower. And he loaned it out to farmers, and he set out to sojourn abroad.
Écoutez une autre parabole: Il y avait un chef de famille qui planta une vigne, et qui l'entoura d'une clôture, et qui y creusa un pressoir, et qui construisit une tour; et il l'afferma à des vignerons, et il s'en alla.
34 Then, when the time of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers, so that they might receive its fruits.
Mais, lorsque le moment de la récolte approcha, il dépêcha ses esclaves auprès des vignerons pour prendre sa récolte.
35 And the farmers apprehended his servants; they struck one, and killed another, and stoned yet another.
Et les vignerons s'étant saisis de ses esclaves battirent l'un, tuèrent l'autre, et lapidèrent le troisième.
36 Again, he sent other servants, more than before; and they treated them similarly.
Il dépêcha derechef d'autres esclaves en plus grand nombre que les premiers, et ils les traitèrent de même.
37 Then, at the very end, he sent his son to them, saying: ‘They will revere my son.’
Mais à la fin, il leur dépêcha son fils, en se disant: Ils respecteront mon fils.
38 But the farmers, seeing the son, said among themselves: ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and then we will have his inheritance.’
Mais les vignerons, à la vue du fils, se dirent: Celui-ci est l'héritier, venez, tuons-le, et mettons-nous en possession de son héritage.
39 And apprehending him, they cast him outside the vineyard, and they killed him.
Et s'étant saisis de lui, ils le jetèrent hors de la vigne et le tuèrent.
40 Therefore, when the lord of the vineyard arrives, what will he do to those farmers?”
Eh bien! quand le propriétaire de la vigne sera venu, que fera-t-il à ces vignerons-là? »
41 They said to him, “He will bring those evil men to an evil end, and he will loan out his vineyard to other farmers, who shall repay to him the fruit in its time.”
Ils lui dirent: « Il fera misérablement périr ces misérables, et il affermera la vigne à d'autres vignerons, qui lui en remettront la récolte en sa saison. »
42 Jesus said to them: “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders have rejected has become the cornerstone. By the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes?’
Jésus leur dit: « N'avez-vous jamais lu dans les écritures: La pierre que les constructeurs ont rejetée est celle qui est devenue le sommet de l'angle; c'est par la volonté du Seigneur qu'elle l'est devenue, et il est admirable nos yeux?
43 Therefore, I say to you, that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and it shall be given to a people who shall produce its fruits.
C'est pourquoi je vous déclare que le royaume de Dieu vous sera enlevé et sera donné à une nation qui en produise les fruits.
44 And whoever will have fallen on this stone shall be broken, yet truly, on whomever it shall fall, it will crush him.”
Et celui qui sera tombé sur cette pierre-là sera fracassé, tandis que celui sur lequel elle sera tombée, elle le fera voler en éclats. »
45 And when the leaders of the priests, and the Pharisees had heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them.
Et après avoir entendu ses paraboles, les grands prêtres et les pharisiens comprirent que c'était d'eux qu'il parlait,
46 And though they sought to take hold of him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.
et, malgré leur désir de le faire arrêter, ils craignirent la foule, car on le tenait pour un prophète.
