Joshua 4

1 And when they had crossed over, the Lord said to Joshua:

जब सबै मानिस यर्दन तरे, परमप्रभुले यहोशूलाई भन्‍नुभयो,

2 “Choose twelve men, one from each tribe,

“मानिसहरूबाट एक जना अर्थात् हरेक कुलबाट एक-एक जना गरी बाह्र जना मानिस छान् ।

3 and instruct them so that they may take from the midst of the channel of the Jordan, where the feet of the priests stood still, twelve very hard stones, which you shall station in the place of the camp, where you will pitch your tents this night.”

तिनीहरूलाई यस्तो आज्ञा दे, “यर्दन नदीको बिचबाट बाह्रवटा ढुङ्गा लेओ जहाँ पुजारीहरू सुक्खा जमिनमा उभिरहेका हुन्छन्, तिनीहरूलाई तिमीहरूसँगै लेओ र तिनीहरूलाई आज रात बिताउने ठाउँमा राख' ।”

4 And Joshua called twelve men, whom he had chosen from the sons of Israel, one from each tribe,

त्यसपछि यहोशूले बाह्र जना मानिसलाई बोलाए जसलाई तिनले इस्राएलका कुलहरूबाट अर्थात् हरेक कुलबाट एक-एक जना चुनेका थिए ।

5 and he said to them: “Go before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan, and let each one carry from there one stone on your shoulders, according to the number of the sons of Israel,

यहोशूले तिनीहरूलाई भने, “तिमीहरूका परमप्रभु परमेश्‍वरको सन्दुकअगि यर्दनको बिचमा जाओ । तिमीहरू हरेकले इस्राएलका मानिसहरूका कुलहरूको सङ्ख्याअनुसार आ-आफ्नो काँधमा एउटा-एउटा ढुङ्गा लिनु ।

6 so that it may be a sign among you. And when your sons will ask you, tomorrow, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’

आउने दिनहरूमा तिमीहरूका सन्तानहरूले, 'यी ढुङ्गाहरूको अर्थ के हो?' भनी सोध्दा तिमीहरूका निम्ति यो एउटा चिन्ह हुने छ ।

7 you shall respond to them: ‘The waters of the Jordan failed before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, when the ark crossed over it. For this reason, these stones were placed as a monument for the sons of Israel, even forever.’”

अनि तिमीहरूले तिनीहरूलाई यसो भन्‍ने छौ, 'परमप्रभु परमेश्‍वरको सन्दुक सामु यर्दन नदीको पानी रोकिएको थियो । त्यसैले यी ढुङ्गाहरू इस्राएलका मानिसहरूका निम्ति स्मारक हुने छन्' ।”

8 Therefore, the sons of Israel did as Joshua instructed them, carrying twelve stones from the midst of the channel of the Jordan, just as the Lord had ordered him, according to the number of the sons of Israel, as far as the place where they made camp, and there they stationed them.

इस्राएलका मानिसहरूले यहोशूले आज्ञा गरेमुताबिक गरे र तिनीहरूले परमप्रभुले यहोशूलाई भन्‍नुभएअनुसार यर्दनको बिचबाट बाह्रवटा ढुङ्गा टिपे । तिनीहरूले ढुङ्गाहरूलाई इस्राएलका मानिसहरूका सङ्ख्याअनुसार खडा गरे । तिनीहरूले ढुङ्गाहरूलाई छाउनी हालेको ठाउँमा लगे र तिनीहरूलाई त्यहीँ खडा गरे ।

9 Similarly, Joshua positioned another twelve stones in the middle of the channel of the Jordan, where the priests stood who were carrying the ark of the covenant; and they are there, even to the present day.

यहोशूले करारको सन्दुक बोक्‍ने पुजारीहरूको खुट्टाले टेकेका ठाउँ अर्थात् यर्दनको बिचबाट ल्याएका बाह्रवटा ढुङ्गा खडा गरे । त्यो स्मारक आज पनि त्यहीँ छ ।

10 Now the priests who were carrying the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan, until everything was accomplished which the Lord had instructed Joshua to speak to the people and which Moses had said to him. And the people hurried, and they passed over.

मोशाले यहोशूलाई आदेश दिएबमोजिम परमप्रभुले मानिसहरूलाई बताउनू भनी आज्ञा गर्नुभएका सबै कुरा पुरा नभएसम्म सन्दुक बोक्‍ने पुजारीहरू यर्दनको बिचमा नै खडा भए । मानिसहरू छिटो-छिटो गरी तरे ।

11 And when they had all crossed, the ark of the Lord also crossed, and the priests advanced before the people.

जब सबै मानिस तरी सके परमप्रभुको सन्दुक र पुजारीहरू मानिसहरूको अगिअगि तरे ।

12 Likewise, the sons of Reuben, and of Gad, and of the one half tribe of Manasseh advanced with weapons before the sons of Israel, just as Moses had instructed them.

रूबेनको कुल, गादको कुल र मनश्शेको आधा कुल मोशाले तिनीहरूलाई आज्ञा गरेअनुसार एउटा फौजको रूपमा इस्राएलका मानिसहरूका अगिअगि गए ।

13 And forty thousand fighters, by companies and divisions, advanced through the plains and fields of the city of Jericho.

झण्डै चालिस हजार सशस्‍त्र मानिस परमप्रभुको सामु यरीहोको मैदानमा युद्धको निम्ति गए ।

14 In that day, the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel, so that they would fear him, just as they had feared Moses while he lived.

त्यस दिन परमप्रभुले यहोशूलाई सबै इस्राएलको दृष्‍टिमा महान् बनाउनुभयो । तिनीहरूले मोशालाई आदर गरेझैँ तिनको सारा जीवनभरि तिनलाई पनि आदर गरे ।

15 And he said to him,

परमप्रभु यहोशूसँग बोल्नुभयो,

16 “Command the priests who are carrying the ark of the covenant to ascend from the Jordan.”

“गवाहीको सन्दुक बोक्‍ने पुजारीहरूलाई यर्दनबाट बाहिर आउनलाई आज्ञा दे ।”

17 And he commanded them, saying, “Ascend from the Jordan.”

त्यसैले, यहोशूले पुजारीहरूलाई आज्ञा दिए, “यर्दनबाट बाहिर आओ ।”

18 And when those who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord had ascended, and they began to step on dry soil, the waters returned to their channel, and they flowed as they usually did before.

जब परमप्रभुको करारको सन्दुक बोक्‍ने पुजारीहरू यर्दनको बिचबाट आए र तिनीहरूका खुट्टाका पैताला सुक्खा जमिनबाट उठाइए, यर्दनको पानी आफ्नो स्थानमा फर्क्यौ र त्यो चार दिन पहिलेको जस्तै यसको किनारासम्म बग्‍न लाग्यो ।

19 Now the people ascended from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they encamped at Gilgal, opposite the eastern portion of the city of Jericho.

मानिसहरू पहिलो महिनाको दसौँ दिनमा यर्दनबाट बाहिर आए । तिनीहरू यर्दनको पूर्वतिर गिलगालमा बसे ।

20 Likewise, the twelve stones that they had taken up from the channel of the Jordan, Joshua stationed at Gilgal.

तिनीहरूले यर्दनबाट बाहिर ल्याएका ती बाह्रवटा ढुङ्गालाई यहोशूले गिलगालमा खडा गरे ।

21 And he said to the sons of Israel: “When your sons will question their fathers, tomorrow, and they will say to them, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’

तिनले इस्राएलका मानिसहरूलाई भने, “जब तिमीहरूका सन्तानहरूले 'यी ढुङ्गाहरू के हुन्?' भनी सोध्छन्, 'इस्राएलले यहीँबाट यर्दन नदीमा सुक्खा जमिनमा तरेको थियो' भनी

22 you shall teach them, and you shall say: ‘Israel passed over this Jordan, through the dry channel.’

तिमीहरूका सन्तानहरूलाई बताउनू ।'

23 For the Lord your God dried up its waters in your sight, until you crossed over, just as he had done before, at the Red Sea, which he dried up until we crossed over.

जसरी परमप्रभु तिमीहरूका परमेश्‍वरले लाल समुद्रलाई सुक्खा बनाउनुभएको थियो त्यसरी नै परमप्रभु तिमीहरूका परमेश्‍वरले तिमीहरू पार नगरेसम्म यर्दनको पानी तिमीहरूको निम्ति सुकाउनुभयो ।

24 So may all the peoples of the earth learn of the very powerful hand of the Lord. So may you also fear the Lord your God for all time.”

यसरी परमप्रभुको बाहुली शक्‍तिशाली छ भनी पृथ्वीका सबै मानिसले जानून् र तिमीहरूले परमप्रभु तिमीहरूका परमेश्‍वरको सदासर्वदा आदर गर ।”
