Joshua 24
1 And Joshua gathered together all the tribes of Israel at Shechem, and he called those greater by birth, and the leaders and judges and teachers. And they stood in the sight of the Lord.
Depois ajuntou Josué todas as tribos de Israel em Sichem: e chamou os anciãos de Israel, e os seus Cabeças, e os seus juízes, e os seus oficiais: e eles se apresentaram diante de Deus.
2 And he spoke to the people in this way: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘Your fathers lived, in the beginning, across the river: Terah, the father of Abraham, and Nahor. And they served strange gods.
Então Josué disse a todo o povo: Assim diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: de além do rio antigamente habitaram vossos pais, Terah, pai de Abraão e pai de Nachor: e serviram a outros deuses.
3 Then I brought your father Abraham from the parts of Mesopotamia, and I led him into the land of Canaan. And I multiplied his offspring,
Eu porém tomei a vosso pai Abraão de além do rio, e o fiz andar por toda a terra de Canaan: também multipliquei a sua semente, e dei-lhe a Isaac.
4 and I gave to him Isaac. And to him, I gave again Jacob and Esau. And I gave mount Seir to Esau as a possession. Yet truly, Jacob and his sons descended into Egypt.
E a Isaac dei a Jacob e a Esaú: e a Esaú dei a montanha de Seir, para a possuir: porém Jacob e seus filhos desceram para o Egito.
5 And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I struck Egypt with many signs and portents.
Então enviei a Moisés e a Aarão, e feri ao Egito, como o fiz no meio dele; e depois vos tirei de lá
6 And I led you and your fathers away from Egypt, and you arrived at the sea. And the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen, as far as the Red Sea.
E, tirando eu a vossos pais do Egito, viestes ao mar: e os egípcios perseguiram a vossos pais, com carros e com cavaleiros, até ao Mar Vermelho.
7 Then the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord. And he stationed a darkness between you and the Egyptians, and he led the sea over them, and he covered them. Your eyes saw all that I did in Egypt, and you lived in the wilderness for a long time.
E clamaram ao Senhor, e pôs uma escuridão entre vós e os egípcios, e trouxe o mar sobre eles, e os cobriu, e os vossos olhos viram o que eu fiz no Egito: depois habitastes no deserto muitos dias.
8 And I led you into the land of the Amorite, who was living beyond the Jordan. And when they fought against you, I delivered them into your hands, and you possessed their land, and you put them to death.
Então eu vos trouxe à terra dos amorreus, que habitavam de além do Jordão, os quais pelejaram contra vós: porém os dei na vossa mão, e possuístes a sua terra, e os destruí diante de vós
9 Then Balak, the son of Zippor, the king of Moab, rose up and fought against Israel. And he sent and called for Balaam, the son of Beor, so that he might curse you.
Levantou-se também Balac, filho de Zippor, rei dos moabitas, e pelejou contra Israel: e enviou e chamou a Balaão, filho de Beor, para que vos amaldiçoasse.
10 And I was not willing to listen to him, but on the contrary, I blessed you through him, and I freed you from his hand.
Porém eu não quis ouvir a Balaão: pelo que, abençoando-vos, abençoou, e livrei-vos da sua mão.
11 And you crossed over the Jordan, and you arrived at Jericho. And the men of that city fought against you: the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. And I delivered them into your hands.
E, passando vós o Jordão, e vindo a Jericó, os habitantes de Jericó pelejaram contra vós, os amorreus, e os pherezeus, e os cananeus, e os heteus, e os girgaseus, e os heveus, e os jebuseus; porém os dei na vossa mão.
12 And I sent wasps before you. And I drove them from their places, the two kings of the Amorites, but not by your sword, and not by your bow.
E enviei vespões diante de vós, que os expeliram de diante de vós, como a ambos os reis dos amorreus: não com a tua espada, nem com o teu arco.
13 And I gave you a land, in which you did not labor, and cities, which you did not build, so that you might live in them, and vineyards and olive groves, which you did not plant.’
E eu vos dei a terra em que não trabalhastes, e cidades que não edificastes, e habitais nelas, e comeis das vinhas e dos olivais que não plantastes.
14 Now therefore, fear the Lord, and serve him with a perfect and very sincere heart. And take away the gods that your fathers served in Mesopotamia and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
Agora pois temei ao Senhor, e servi-o com sinceridade e com verdade: e deitai fora os deuses aos quais serviram vossos pais de além do rio e no Egito, e servi ao Senhor.
15 But if it seems evil to you that you would serve the Lord, a choice is given to you. Choose today what pleases you, and whom you ought to serve above all else, either the gods that your fathers served in Mesopotamia, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you live: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Porém, se vos parece mal aos vossos olhos servir ao Senhor, escolhei-vos hoje a quem sirvais: se os deuses a quem serviram vossos pais, que estavam de além do rio, ou os deuses dos amorreus, em cuja terra habitais: porém eu e a minha casa serviremos ao Senhor.
16 And the people responded, and they said: “Far be it from us that we would forsake the Lord, and serve foreign gods.
Então respondeu o povo, e disse: Nunca nos aconteça que deixemos ao Senhor para servir mos a outros deuses;
17 The Lord our God himself led us and our fathers away from the land of Egypt, from the house of servitude. And he accomplished immense signs in our sight, and he preserved us along the entire way by which we journeyed, and among all the people through whom we passed.
Porque o Senhor é o nosso Deus; ele é o que nos fez subir, a nós e a nossos pais, da terra do Egito, da casa da servidão, e o que tem feito estes grandes sinais aos nossos olhos, e nos guardou por todo o caminho que andamos, e entre todos os povos pelo meio dos quais passamos.
18 And he cast out all the nations, the Amorite, the inhabitant of the land that we entered. And so, we will serve the Lord, for he is our God.”
E o Senhor expeliu de diante de nós a todas estas gentes, até ao amorreu, morador da terra: também nós serviremos ao Senhor, porquanto é nosso Deus.
19 And Joshua said to the people: “You will not be able to serve the Lord. For he is a holy and powerful God, and he is jealous, and he will not ignore your wickedness and sins.
Então Josué disse ao povo: Não podereis servir ao Senhor, porquanto é Deus santo, é Deus zeloso, que não perdoará a vossa transgressão nem os vossos pecados.
20 If you leave behind the Lord, and you serve foreign gods, he will turn himself, and he will afflict you, and he will overthrow you, after all the good that he has offered to you.”
Se deixardes ao Senhor, e servirdes a deuses estranhos, então se tornará, e vos fará mal, e vos consumirá, depois de vos fazer bem
21 And the people said to Joshua, “By no means will it be as you are saying, but we will serve the Lord.”
Então disse o povo a Josué: Não, antes ao Senhor serviremos.
22 And Joshua said to the people, “You yourselves are witnesses, that you have chosen the Lord so that you may serve him.” And they answered, “We are witnesses.”
E Josué disse ao povo: Sois testemunhas contra vós mesmos de que vós escolhestes ao Senhor, para o servir. E disseram: Somos testemunhas.
23 “Now therefore,” he said, “take away strange gods from among yourselves, and incline your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
Deitai pois agora fora aos deuses estranhos que há no meio de vós: e inclinai o vosso coração ao Senhor Deus de Israel.
24 And the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the Lord our God, and we will be obedient to his precepts.”
E disse o povo a Josué: Serviremos ao Senhor nosso Deus, e obedeceremos à sua voz.
25 Therefore, on that day, Joshua struck a covenant, and he set before the people at Shechem the precepts and the judgments.
Assim fez Josué concerto naquele dia com o povo, e lho pôs por estatuto e direito em Sichem.
26 He also wrote all these things in the volume of the law of the Lord. And he took a very great stone, and he stationed it under the oak that was in the Sanctuary of the Lord.
E Josué escreveu estas palavras no livro da lei de Deus: e tomou uma grande pedra, e a erigiu ali debaixo do carvalho que estava junto ao santuário do Senhor.
27 And he said to all the people, “Lo, this stone shall be to you as a testimony, which has heard all the words of the Lord that he has spoken to you, lest perhaps, afterward, you might choose to deny it, and to lie to the Lord your God.”
E disse Josué a todo o povo: Eis que esta pedra nos será por testemunho; pois ela ouviu todas as palavras que o Senhor nos tem dito: e também será testemunho contra vós, para que não mintais a vosso Deus
28 And he dismissed the people, each one to their own possession.
Então Josué enviou o povo, a cada um para a sua herdade.
29 And after these things, Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being one hundred and ten years old.
E depois destas coisas sucedeu que Josué, filho de Nun, o servo do Senhor, faleceu, sendo da idade de cento e dez anos.
30 And they buried him within the borders of his possession at Timnath-Serah, which is situated on mount Ephraim, before the northern side of mount Gaash.
E sepultaram-no no termo da sua herdade, em Timnath-sera, que está no monte de Ephraim, para o norte do monte de Gaas.
31 And Israel served the Lord during all the days of Joshua, and of the elders who lived for a long time after Joshua, and who had known all the works of the Lord that he had accomplished in Israel.
Serviu pois Israel ao Senhor todos os dias de Josué, e todos os dias dos anciãos que ainda viveram muito depois de Josué, e sabiam toda a obra que o Senhor tinha feito a Israel.
32 And the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel had brought from Egypt, they buried at Shechem, in a portion of the field that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for one hundred young female sheep, and so it was in the possession of the sons of Joseph.
Também enterraram em Sichem os ossos de José, que os filhos de Israel trouxeram do Egito, naquela parte do campo que Jacob comprara aos filhos de Hemor, pai de Sichem, por cem peças de prata: porquanto foram em herança para os filhos de José.
33 Likewise, Eleazar, the son of Aaron, died. And they buried him at Gibeah, which belongs to Phinehas, his son, and which was given to him on mount Ephraim.
Faleceu também Eleazar, filho de Aarão, e o sepultaram no outeiro de Phineas, seu filho, que lhe fôra dado na montanha de Ephraim.
