Job 23

1 Then Job answered by saying:

Und Hiob antwortete und sprach:

2 Now again my conversation is in bitterness, and the force of my scourging weighs more heavily on me because of my mourning.

Auch heute ist meine Klage trotzig; seine Hand lastet schwer auf meinem Seufzen.

3 Who will grant me that I might know and find him, and that I may approach even to his throne?

O daß ich ihn zu finden wüßte, daß ich kommen könnte bis zu seiner Wohnstätte!

4 I would place judgment before his eye, and my mouth would fill with criticism,

Ich würde meine Rechtssache vor ihm darlegen, und meinen Mund mit Beweisgründen füllen.

5 so that I may know the words that he will answer me and understand what he will say to me.

Ich würde die Worte wissen, die er mir antworten, und vernehmen, was er mir sagen würde.

6 I do not want him to contend with me with much strength, nor to overwhelm me with the bulk of his greatness.

Würde er in der Größe seiner Kraft mit mir streiten? Nein; er würde nur acht auf mich haben.

7 Let him show fairness in response to me, and let my judgment reach to victory.

Alsdann würde ein Rechtschaffener mit ihm rechten, und auf ewig würde ich meinem Richter entkommen.

8 If I go to the east, he does not appear; if I go to the west, I will not understand him.

Siehe, gehe ich vorwärts, so ist er nicht da; und rückwärts, so bemerke ich ihn nicht;

9 If I turn to the left, what can I do? I will not take hold of him. If I turn myself to the right, I will not see him.

zur Linken, während er wirkt, so schaue ich ihn nicht; er verhüllt sich zur Rechten, und ich sehe ihn nicht.

10 Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.

Denn er kennt den Weg, der bei mir ist; prüfte er mich, wie Gold würde ich hervorgehen.

11 My feet have been following his footsteps; I have kept to his way and have not strayed from it.

An seinem Schritte hat mein Fuß festgehalten, und seinen Weg habe ich beobachtet und bin nicht abgebogen;

12 I have not withdrawn from the commands of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hidden in my sinews.

von dem Gebote seiner Lippen bin ich nicht abgewichen, ich habe die Worte seines Mundes verwahrt, mehr als meinen eigenen Vorsatz.

13 For he is alone, and no one is able to disturb his intention; and whatever his spirit wills, that he accomplishes.

Doch er bleibt sich gleich, und wer kann seinen Sinn ändern? Was seine Seele begehrt, das tut er.

14 And when he fulfills his will in me, many other similar ones will also be present with him.

Denn er wird vollenden, was über mich bestimmt ist; und dergleichen ist vieles bei ihm.

15 And, for this reason, I have been troubled at his presence, and, when I consider him, I am approached by fear.

Darum bin ich bestürzt vor seinem Angesicht; erwäge ich's, so erschrecke ich vor ihm.

16 God has weakened my heart, and the Almighty has confused me.

Ja, Gott hat mein Herz verzagt gemacht, und der Allmächtige mich in Bestürzung versetzt.

17 Yet I have not perished because of the threatening darkness, nor has gloom covered my face.

Denn nicht wegen der Finsternis bin ich vernichtet, noch weil Dunkelheit mein Angesicht bedeckt hat.
