Genesis 47

1 And so Joseph entered and reported to Pharaoh, saying: “My father and brothers, their sheep and herds, and everything that they possess, have arrived from the land of Canaan. And behold, they stand together in the land of Goshen.”

Y José vino, e hizo saber a Faraón, y dijo: Mi padre y mis hermanos, y sus ovejas, y sus vacas, con todo lo que tienen, han venido de la tierra de Canaán; y, he aquí, están en la tierra de Gosén.

2 Likewise, he stood in the sight of the king five men, the last of his brothers.

Y de los postreros de sus hermanos tomó cinco varones, y presentólos delante de Faraón:

3 And he questioned them, “What do you have for work?” They responded: “Your servants are pastors of sheep, both we and our fathers.

Y Faraón dijo a sus hermanos: ¿Qué son vuestros oficios? Y ellos respondieron a Faraón: Pastores de ovejas son tus siervos, así nosotros, como nuestros padres.

4 We came to sojourn in your land, because there is no grass for the flocks of your servants, the famine being very grievous in the land of Canaan. And we petition you that you may order us, your servants, to be in the land of Goshen.”

Y dijeron a Faraón: Por morar en esta tierra hemos venido; porque no hay pasto para las ovejas de tus siervos, que la hambre es grave en la tierra de Canaán, por tanto ahora rogámoste que habiten tus siervos en la tierra de Gosén.

5 And so the king said to Joseph: “Your father and brothers have come to you.

Entonces Faraón habló a José, diciendo: Tu padre y tus hermanos han venido a ti.

6 The land of Egypt is in your sight. Cause them to live in the best place, and deliver to them the land of Goshen. And if you know there to be industrious men among them, appoint these as foremen over my cattle.”

La tierra de Egipto delante de ti está, en lo mejor de la tierra haz habitar a tu padre y a tus hermanos: habiten en la tierra de Gosén: y si entiendes que hay entre ellos hombres valientes, ponerlos has por mayorales del ganado sobre lo que es mío.

7 After this, Joseph brought in his father to the king, and he stood him in his sight. He blessed him,

Y metió José a Jacob su padre, y presentóle delante de Faraón; y Jacob bendijo a Faraón.

8 and he questioned him: “How many are the days of the years of your life?”

Y dijo Faraón a Jacob: ¿Cuántos son los días de los años de tu vida?

9 He responded, “The days of my sojourn are one hundred and thirty years, few and unworthy, and they do not reach even to the days of the sojourning of my fathers.”

Y Jacob respondió a Faraón: Los días de los años de mi peregrinación son ciento y treinta años: pocos y malos han sido los días de los años de mi vida: y no han llegado a los días de los años de la vida de mis padres, en los días de sus peregrinaciones.

10 And blessing the king, he went outside.

Y Jacob bendijo a Faraón, y salióse de delante de Faraón.

11 Truly, Joseph gave his father and brothers a possession in Egypt, in the best place of the land, in Rameses, as Pharaoh had instructed.

Así José hizo habitar a su padre y a sus hermanos, y dióles posesión en la tierra de Egipto en lo mejor de la tierra, en la tierra de Rameses como Faraón mandó.

12 And he fed them, along with all his father’s house, providing portions of food to each one.

Y alimentaba José a su padre y a sus hermanos, y a toda la casa de su padre, de pan, hasta la boca del niño.

13 For in the whole world there was a lack of bread, and a famine had oppressed the land, most of all Egypt and Canaan,

Y no había pan en toda la tierra, y la hambre era muy grave: y desfalleció de hambre la tierra de Egipto, y la tierra de Canaán.

14 from which he gathered together all the money for the grain that they bought, and he took it into the treasury of the king.

Y José recogió todo el dinero que se halló en la tierra de Egipto, y en la tierra de Canaán por los alimentos que compraban de él: y metió José el dinero en casa de Faraón.

15 And when the buyers had run out of money, all Egypt came to Joseph, saying: “Give us bread. Why should we die in your sight, lacking money?”

Y acabado el dinero de la tierra de Egipto, y de la tierra de Canaán, vino todo Egipto a José, diciendo: Dános pan: ¿por qué moriremos delante de ti, que se ha acabado el dinero?

16 And he responded to them: “Bring me your cattle, and I will give food to you in exchange for them, if you do not have money.”

Y José dijo: Dad vuestros ganados, y yo os daré por vuestros ganados, si se ha acabado el dinero.

17 And when they had brought them, he gave them food for their horses, and sheep, and oxen, and donkeys. And he sustained them in that year in exchange for their cattle.

Y ellos trajeron sus ganados a José, y José les dio alimentos por caballos, y por el ganado de las ovejas, y por el ganado de las vacas, y por asnos: y sustentólos de pan por todos sus ganados aquel año.

18 Likewise, they came the second year, and they said to him: “We will not conceal from our lord that our money is gone; likewise our cattle are gone. Neither are you unaware that we have nothing left but our bodies and our land.

Y acabado aquel año, vinieron a él el segundo año, y dijéronle: No encubriremos de nuestro señor, que ciertamente se ha acabado el dinero, ni ganado de nuestro señor ha quedado delante de nuestro señor; mas que nuestros cuerpos, y nuestra tierra.

19 Therefore, why should you watch us die? Both we and our land will be yours. Buy us into royal servitude, but provide seed, lest by the dying off of cultivators the land be reduced to a wilderness.”

¿Por qué moriremos delante de tus ojos así nosotros como nuestra tierra? Cómpranos a nosotros y a nuestra tierra por pan; y seremos nosotros y nuestra tierra siervos de Faraón: y da simiente para que vivamos, y no nos muramos, y no se asuele la tierra.

20 Therefore, Joseph bought all the land of Egypt, each one selling his possessions because of the magnitude of the famine. And he subjected it to Pharaoh,

Entonces José compró toda la tierra de Egipto para Faraón: porque los Egipcios vendieron cada uno sus tierras, porque la hambre se fortaleció sobre ellos: y fue la tierra de Faraón.

21 along with all of its people, from the newest borders of Egypt, even to its furthest limits,

Y al pueblo hízole pasar a las ciudades desde el un cabo del término de Egipto hasta el otro cabo.

22 except the land of the priests, which had been delivered to them by the king. To these also a portion of food was supplied out of the public storehouses, and, for this reason, they were not compelled to sell their possessions.

Solamente la tierra de los sacerdotes no compró, por cuanto los sacerdotes tenían ración de Faraón, y ellos comían su ración que Faraón les daba: por eso no vendieron su tierra.

23 Therefore, Joseph said to the people: “So, as you discern, both you and your lands are possessed by Pharaoh; take seed and sow the fields,

Y José dijo al pueblo: He aquí yo os he comprado hoy, a vosotros y a vuestra tierra para Faraón: veis aquí simiente, y sembraréis la tierra.

24 so that you may be able to have grain. One fifth part you will give to the king; the remaining four I permit to you, as seed and as food for your families and children.

Y será que de los frutos daréis el quinto a Faraón: y las cuatro partes serán vuestras para sembrar las tierras, y para vuestro mantenimiento, y de los que están en vuestras casas, y para que coman vuestros niños.

25 And they responded: “Our health is in your hand; only let our lord look kindly upon us, and we will serve the king with gladness.”

Y ellos respondieron: La vida nos has dado: hallemos gracia en ojos de mi señor, que seamos siervos de Faraón.

26 From that time, even to the present day, in the entire land of Egypt, the fifth part is turned over to the kings, and it has become like a law, except in the land of the priests, which was free from this condition.

Entonces José lo puso por fuero hasta hoy sobre la tierra de Egipto, a Faraón el quinto: salvo que la tierra de los sacerdotes sola no fue de Faraón.

27 And so, Israel lived in Egypt, that is, in the land of Goshen, and he possessed it. And he increased and was multiplied exceedingly.

Así habitó Israel en la tierra de Egipto, en la tierra de Gosén, y aposesionáronse en ella, y aumentáronse, y multiplicaron en gran manera.

28 And he lived in it seventeen years. And all the days of his life that passed were one hundred and forty-seven years.

Y vivió Jacob en la tierra de Egipto diez y siete años, y fueron los días de Jacob, los años de su vida, ciento y cuarenta y siete años.

29 And when he discerned that the day of his death was approaching, he called his son Joseph, and he said to him: “If I have found favor in your sight, place your hand under my thigh. And you shall show me mercy and truth, not to bury me in Egypt.

Y llegáronse los días de Israel para morir, y llamó a José su hijo, y díjole: Si he hallado ahora gracia en tus ojos, yo te ruego que pongas tu mano debajo de mi muslo, y harás conmigo misericordia y verdad. Ruégote que no me entierres en Egipto:

30 But I shall sleep with my fathers, and you will carry me from this land and bury me in the sepulcher of my ancestors.” And Joseph answered him, “I will do what you have ordered.”

Mas cuando durmiere con mis padres, llevarme has de Egipto, y sepultarme has en el sepulcro de ellos. Y él respondió: Yo haré como tú dices.

31 And he said, “Then swear it to me.” And as he was swearing, Israel adored God, turning to the head of his resting place.

Y él dijo: Júrame. Y él le juró. Entonces Israel se inclinó a la cabecera de la cama.
