Genesis 18
1 Then the Lord appeared to him, in the steep valley of Mamre, when he was sitting at the door of his tent, in the very heat of the day.
১পরে সদাপ্রভু মম্রির এলোন বনের কাছে তাঁকে দর্শন দিলেন। তিনি দিনের গরমের দিনের তাঁবুর দুয়ারের মুখে বসেছিলেন; চোখ তুলে দেখলেন।
2 And when he had lifted up his eyes, there appeared to him three men, standing near him. When he had seen them, he ran to meet them from the door of his tent, and he reverenced them on the ground.
২আর দেখ, তিনটে পুরুষ সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে ছিল। দেখতে পাওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই তিনি তাঁবুর দুয়ারের মুখে থেকে তাঁদের কাছে দৌড়ে গিয়ে মাটিতে প্রণাম করলেন।
3 And he said: “If I, O lord, have found grace in your eyes, do not pass by your servant.
৩তিনি বললেন, “হে প্রভু, অনুরোধ করি, যদি আমি আপনার দৃষ্টিতে অনুগ্রহের পাত্র হয়ে থাকি, তবে আপনার এই দাসের কাছ থেকে যাবেন না।
4 But I will bring a little water, and you may wash your feet and rest under the tree.
৪অনুরোধ করি, অল্প জল এনে দিই, আপনারা পা ধুয়ে এই গাছের তলায় বিশ্রাম করুন।
5 And I will set out a meal of bread, so that you may strengthen your heart; after this you will pass on. It is for this reason that you have turned aside to your servant.” And they said, “Do as you have spoken.”
৫কিছু খাবার এনে দিই, তা দিয়ে প্রাণ তৃপ্ত করুন, পরে নিজের পথে এগিয়ে যাবেন; কারণ এরই জন্য নিজের দাসের কাছে এসেছেন।” তখন তাঁরা বললেন, “যা বললে, তাই কর।”
6 Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and he said to her, “Quickly, mix together three measures of the finest wheat flour and make loaves baked under the ashes.”
৬তাতে অব্রাহাম তাড়াতাড়ি করে তাঁবুতে সারার কাছে গিয়ে বললেন, “শীঘ্র 21 কিলো উত্তম ময়দা নিয়ে মেখে গোলা বানিয়ে রুটি তৈরী কর।”
7 In truth, he himself ran to the herd, and he took a calf from there, very tender and very good, and he gave it to a servant, who hurried and boiled it.
৭পরে অব্রাহাম দৌড়িয়ে গিয়ে পশুপাল থেকে উৎকৃষ্ট কোমল এক বাছুর নিয়ে দাসকে দিলে সে তা তাড়াতাড়ি রান্না করল।
8 Likewise, he took butter and milk, and the calf which he had boiled, and he placed it before them. Yet truly, he himself stood near them under the tree.
৮তখন তিনি দই, দুধ ও রান্না মাংস নিয়ে তাঁদের সামনে দিলেন এবং তাঁদের কাছে বৃক্ষ তলায় দাঁড়ালেন ও তাঁরা ভোজন করলেন।
9 And when they had eaten, they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” He answered, “Behold, she is in the tent.”
৯আর তাঁরা তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমার স্ত্রী সারা কোথায়?” তিনি বললেন, “দেখুন, তিনি তাঁবুতে আছেন।”
10 And he said to him, “When returning, I will come to you at this time, with life as a companion, and your wife Sarah will have a son.” Hearing this, Sarah laughed behind the door of the tent.
১০তিনি বললেন, “বসন্তকালে আমি অবশ্যই তোমার কাছে ফিরে আসব; আর দেখ, তোমার স্ত্রী সারার এক ছেলে হবে।” এই কথা সারা দরজার পিছনে থেকে শুনলেন।
11 Now they were both old, and in an advanced state of life, and it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
১১সেই দিনের অব্রাহাম ও সারা অনেক বয়ষ্ক ছিলেন; সারার সন্তান প্রসব করার বয়স পার হয়ে গিয়েছিল।
12 And she laughed secretly, saying, “After I have grown old, and my lord is elderly, shall I give myself to the work of delight?”
১২অতএব সারা নিজে মনে মনে হেঁসে বললেন, “আমার এই শীর্ণ দশার পরে কি এমন আনন্দ হবে? আমার প্রভুও তো বৃদ্ধ।”
13 Then the Lord said to Abraham: “Why did Sarah laugh, saying: ‘How can I, an old woman, actually give birth?’
১৩তখন সদাপ্রভু অব্রাহামকে বললেন, “সারা কেন এই বলে হাঁসলো যে, ‘আমি কি সত্যই প্রসব করব, আমি যে বুড়ী?’ কোন কাজ কি সদাপ্রভুর অসাধ্য?
14 Is anything difficult for God? According to the announcement, he will return to you at this same time, with life as a companion, and Sarah will have a son.”
১৪সঠিক দিনের এই ঋতু আবার উপস্থিত হলে আমি তোমার কাছে ফিরে আসব, আর সারার ছেলে হবে।”
15 Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh.” For she was terribly afraid. But the Lord said, “It is not so; for you did laugh.”
১৫তাতে সারা অস্বীকার করে বললেন, “আমি হাঁসিনি; কারণ তিনি ভয় পেয়েছিলেন।” তিনি বললেন, “না, অবশ্যই হেঁসেছিলে।”
16 Therefore, when the men had risen up from there, they directed their eyes against Sodom. And Abraham traveled with them, leading them.
১৬পরে সেই ব্যক্তিরা সেখান থেকে উঠে সদোমের দিকে দেখলেন, আর অব্রাহাম তাঁদেরকে বিদায় দিতে তাঁদের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে চললেন।
17 And the Lord said: “How could I hide what I am about to do from Abraham,
১৭কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “আমি যা করব, তা কি অব্রাহাম থেকে লুকাব?
18 since he will become a great and very robust nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed?
১৮অব্রাহাম থেকে মহান ও বলবান এক জাতি সৃষ্টি হবে এবং পৃথিবীর যাবতীয় জাতি তাতেই আশীর্বাদ প্রাপ্ত হবে।
19 For I know that he will instruct his sons, and his household after him, to keep to the way of the Lord, and to act with judgment and justice, so that, for the sake of Abraham, the Lord may bring about all the things that he has spoken to him.”
১৯কারণ আমি তাকে জানিয়েছি, যেন সে নিজের ভাবী সন্তানদের ও পরিবারদেরকে আদেশ করে, যেন তারা ধার্ম্মিকতায় ও ন্যায্য আচরণ করতে করতে সদাপ্রভুর পথে চলে; এই ভাবে সদাপ্রভু যেন অব্রাহামের বিষয়ে কথিত নিজের বাক্য সফল করেন।”
20 And so the Lord said, “The outcry from Sodom and Gomorrah has been multiplied, and their sin has become exceedingly grievous.
২০পরে সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “কারণ সদোমের ও ঘমোরার কান্না অত্যন্ত বেশি এবং তাদের পাপ অতিশয় ভারী;
21 I will descend and see whether they have fulfilled the work of the outcry that has reached me, or whether it is not so, in order that I may know.”
২১আমি নীচে গিয়ে দেখব, আমার কাছে আসা কান্না অনুসারে তারা সম্পূর্ণরূপে করেছে কি না; যদি না করে থাকে, তা জানব।”
22 And they turned themselves from there, and they went toward Sodom. Yet in truth, Abraham still stood in the sight of the Lord.
২২পরে সেই ব্যক্তিরা সেখান থেকে ফিরে সদোমের দিকে গেলেন; কিন্তু অব্রাহাম তখনও সদাপ্রভুর সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকলেন।
23 And as they drew near, he said: “Will you destroy the just with the impious?
২৩পরে অব্রাহাম কাছে গিয়ে বললেন, “আপনি কি দুষ্টের সঙ্গে ধার্মিককেও ধ্বংস করবেন?
24 If there were fifty of the just in the city, will they perish with the rest? And will you not spare that place for the sake of fifty of the just, if they were in it?
২৪সেই নগরের মধ্যে যদি পঞ্চাশ জন ধার্মিক পাওয়া যায়, তবে আপনি কি সেখানকার পঞ্চাশ জন ধার্ম্মিকের অনুরোধে সেই জায়গার প্রতি দয়া না করে তা বিনষ্ট করবেন?
25 Far be it from you to do this thing, and to kill the just with the impious, and for the just to be treated like the impious. No, this is not like you. You judge all the earth; you would never make such a judgment.”
২৫দুষ্টের সঙ্গে ধার্ম্মিককে ধ্বংস করা, এই রকম কাজ আপনার থেকে দূরে থাকুক; ধার্ম্মিককে দুষ্টের সমান করা আপনার কাছ থেকে দূর থাকুক। সমস্ত পৃথিবীর বিচারকর্ত্তা কি ন্যায়বিচার করবেন না?”
26 And the Lord said to him, “If I find in Sodom fifty of the just in the midst of the city, I will release the entire place because of them.”
২৬সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “আমি যদি সদোমের মধ্যে পঞ্চাশ জন ধার্মিক দেখি, তবে তাদের অনুরোধে সেই সমস্ত জায়গার প্রতি দয়া করব।”
27 And Abraham responded by saying: “Since now I have begun, I will speak to my Lord, though I am dust and ashes.
২৭অব্রাহাম উত্তর করে বললেন, “দেখুন, ধূলো ও ছাইমাত্র যে আমি, আমি প্রভুর সঙ্গে কথা বলতে সাহসী হয়েছি!
28 What if there were five less than fifty of the just? Would you, despite the forty-five, eliminate the entire city?” And he said, “I will not eliminate it, if I find forty-five there.”
২৮কি জানি, পঞ্চাশ জন ধার্ম্মিকের পাঁচ জন কম হবে; সেই পাঁচ জনের অভাবের জন্য আপনি কি সমস্ত নগর ধ্বংস করবেন?” তিনি বললেন, “সেই জায়গায় পঁয়তাল্লিশ জন পেলে আমি তা বিনষ্ট করব না।”
29 And again he said to him, “But if forty were found there, what would you do?” He said, “I will not strike, for the sake of the forty.”
২৯তিনি তাঁকে আবার বললেন, “সেই জায়গায় যদি চল্লিশ জন পাওয়া যায়?” তিনি বললেন, “সেই চল্লিশ জনের জন্য তা করব না।”
30 “I ask you,” he said, “not to be angry, Lord, if I speak. What if thirty were found there?” He responded, “I will not act, if I find thirty there.”
৩০আবার তিনি বললেন, “প্রভু বিরক্ত হবেন না, আমি আরও বলি; যদি সেখানে ত্রিশ জন পাওয়া যায়?” তিনি বললেন, “সেখানে ত্রিশ জন পেলে তা করব না।”
31 “Since now I have begun,” he said, “I will speak to my Lord. What if twenty were found there?” He said, “I will not put to death, for the sake of the twenty.”
৩১তিনি বললেন, “দেখুন, প্রভুর কাছে আমি সাহসী হয়ে আবার বলি, যদি সেখানে কুড়ি জন পাওয়া যায়?” তিনি বললেন, “সেই কুড়ি জনের অনুরোধে তা বিনষ্ট করব না।”
32 “I beg you,” he said, “not to be angry, Lord, if I speak yet once more. What if ten were found there?” And he said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten.”
৩২তিনি বললেন, “প্রভু রাগ করবেন না। আমি শুধু মাত্র আর একবার বলব; যদি সেখানে দশ জন পাওয়া যায়?” তিনি বললেন, “সেই দশ জনের অনুরোধে তা ধ্বংস করব না।”
33 And the Lord departed, after he had ceased speaking to Abraham, who then returned to his place.
৩৩তখন সদাপ্রভু অব্রাহামের সঙ্গে কথাবার্তা শেষ করে চলে গেলেন এবং অব্রাহাম নিজের জায়গায় ফিরে এলেন।
