Genesis 15

1 And so, these things having been transacted, the word of the Lord came to Abram by a vision, saying: “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your protector, and your reward is exceedingly great.”

കുറച്ച് നാളുകൾക്കുശേഷം ഒരു ദർശനത്തിൽ അബ്രാമിനു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി: “അബ്രാമേ, ഭയപ്പെടരുത്, ഞാൻ നിന്റെ പരിച, നിന്റെ അതിമഹത്തായ പ്രതിഫലം.”

2 And Abram said: “Lord God, what will you give to me? I may go without children. And the son of the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus.”

അതിന് അബ്രാം, “കർത്താവായ യഹോവേ, അങ്ങ് എനിക്കെന്തു നൽകും? ഞാൻ മക്കളില്ലാത്തവനാണ്; എന്റെ സ്വത്തിന് അവകാശി ദമസ്കോസുകാരനായ എലീയേസറാണ്.

3 And Abram added: “Yet to me you have not given offspring. And behold, my servant born in my house will be my heir.”

അവിടന്ന് എനിക്കു മക്കളെ തന്നിട്ടില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ട് എന്റെ വീട്ടിലുള്ള ഒരു ദാസൻ എന്റെ അനന്തരാവകാശി ആയിത്തീരും.”

4 And immediately the word of the Lord came to him, saying: “This one will not be your heir. But he who will come from your loins, the same will you have for your heir.”

അപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു: “ഇവൻ നിന്റെ അനന്തരാവകാശി ആകുകയില്ല; പിന്നെയോ, നിന്നിൽനിന്നു ജനിക്കുന്നവൻതന്നെ നിന്റെ അനന്തരാവകാശി ആയിത്തീരും.”

5 And he brought him outside, and he said to him, “Take in the heavens, and number the stars, if you can.” And he said to him, “So also will your offspring be.”

യഹോവ അവനെ പുറത്തേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി: “നീ ആകാശത്തേക്കു നോക്കുക, നിനക്കു നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെ എണ്ണാൻ കഴിയുമെങ്കിൽ എണ്ണുക” എന്നു കൽപ്പിച്ചു. പിന്നെ അവിടന്ന് അവനോട്, “നിന്റെ സന്തതി ഇങ്ങനെ അസംഖ്യമാകും” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

6 Abram believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.

അബ്രാം യഹോവയിൽ വിശ്വസിച്ചു, അതുനിമിത്തം യഹോവ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ നീതിമാനായി കണക്കാക്കി.

7 And he said to him, “I am the Lord who led you away from Ur of the Chaldeans, so as to give you this land, and so that you would possess it.”

അവിടന്ന് അബ്രാമിനോട് പിന്നെയും അരുളിച്ചെയ്തത്: “ഈ ദേശം നിനക്ക് അവകാശമായി നൽകേണ്ടതിനു കൽദയരുടെ പട്ടണമായ ഊരിൽനിന്ന് നിന്നെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന യഹോവ ഞാൻ ആകുന്നു.”

8 But he said, “Lord God, in what way may I be able to know that I will possess it?”

അതിന് അബ്രാം, “കർത്താവായ യഹോവേ, അതു ഞാൻ അവകാശമാക്കുമെന്ന് എനിക്കെങ്ങനെ അറിയാൻ കഴിയും?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

9 And the Lord responded by saying: “Take for me a cow of three years, and a she-goat of three years, and a ram of three years, also a turtle-dove and a pigeon.”

യഹോവ അബ്രാമിനോട്: “നീ മൂന്നുവയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു പശുക്കിടാവിനെയും മൂന്നുവയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു പെണ്ണാടിനെയും മൂന്നുവയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു ആട്ടുകൊറ്റനെയും അവയോടൊപ്പം ഒരു കുറുപ്രാവിനെയും ഒരു പ്രാവിൻകുഞ്ഞിനെയും എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവരിക” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

10 Taking all these, he divided them through the middle, and placed both parts opposite one another. But the birds he did not divide.

അബ്രാം ഇവയെ എല്ലാറ്റിനെയും യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് നടുവേ പിളർന്ന് ഭാഗങ്ങൾ നേർക്കുനേരേ വെച്ചു. എന്നാൽ പക്ഷികളെ അദ്ദേഹം രണ്ടായി പിളർന്നില്ല.

11 And birds descended upon the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.

അപ്പോൾ ആ ഉടലുകൾ തിന്നുന്നതിനായി ഇരപിടിയൻപക്ഷികൾ ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു; അബ്രാം അവയെ ആട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

12 And when the sun was setting, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a dread, great and dark, invaded him.

സൂര്യൻ അസ്തമിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നപ്പോൾ അബ്രാം ഗാഢനിദ്രയിലേക്കു വഴുതിവീണു. ഭീതിപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന ഒരു കൂരിരുട്ട് അവന്റെമേൽ വന്നു.

13 And it was said to him: “Know beforehand that your future offspring will be sojourners in a land not their own, and they will subjugate them in servitude and afflict them for four hundred years.

അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്: “നിന്റെ പിൻഗാമികൾ സ്വന്തമല്ലാത്ത ഒരു ദേശത്ത് പ്രവാസികൾ ആയിരിക്കുകയും നാനൂറുവർഷം അവർ അവിടെ അടിമകളായി പീഡനം സഹിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുമെന്ന് നീ നിശ്ചയമായും അറിയണം.

14 Yet truly, I will judge the nation that they will serve, and after this they will depart with great substance.

എന്നാൽ, അവർ അടിമകളായി സേവിക്കുന്ന രാജ്യത്തെ ഞാൻ ശിക്ഷിക്കും; അതിനുശേഷം അവർ ആ ദേശം വിട്ടുപോരുന്നതു വളരെ സമ്പത്തോടുംകൂടെ ആയിരിക്കും.

15 But you will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age.

നീയോ, സമാധാനത്തോടെ നിന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു ചേരും; നല്ല വാർധക്യത്തിൽ അടക്കപ്പെടും.

16 But in the fourth generation, they will return here. For the iniquities of the Amorites are not yet completed, even to this present time.”

നിന്റെ സന്തതികളുടെ നാലാംതലമുറ ഇവിടെ മടങ്ങിയെത്തും; അമോര്യരുടെ പാപം ഇതുവരെയും അതിന്റെ പരമകാഷ്ഠയിൽ എത്തിയിട്ടില്ലല്ലോ” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

17 Then, when the sun had set, there came a dark mist, and there appeared a smoking furnace and a lamp of fire passing between those divisions.

സൂര്യൻ അസ്തമിച്ച് അന്ധകാരം വ്യാപിച്ചപ്പോൾ ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന പന്തത്തോടുകൂടിയതും പുകയുന്നതുമായ ഒരു തീച്ചൂള പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു, അത് ആ ഭാഗങ്ങളുടെ മധ്യേകൂടി കടന്നുപോയി.

18 On that day, God formed a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt, even to the great river Euphrates:

യഹോവ ആ ദിവസം അബ്രാമിനോട് ഒരു ഉടമ്പടിചെയ്തു. അവിടന്ന് ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു. “ഞാൻ നിന്റെ സന്തതിക്ക് ഈജിപ്റ്റിലെ തോടുമുതൽ മഹാനദിയായ യൂഫ്രട്ടീസുവരെയുള്ള ദേശം തരും.

19 the land of the Kenites and the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites

കേന്യർ, കെനിസ്യർ, കദ്മോന്യർ,

20 and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, likewise the Rephaim,

ഹിത്യർ, പെരിസ്യർ, രെഫായീമ്യർ,

21 and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

അമോര്യർ, കനാന്യർ, ഗിർഗ്ഗശ്യർ, യെബൂസ്യർ എന്നിവരുടെ ദേശംതന്നെ തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.”
