Deuteronomy 12

1 “These are the precepts and judgments which you must do in the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, will give to you, so that you may possess it during all the days that you shall walk upon the soil.

Voici les lois et les ordonnances que vous observerez et que vous mettrez en pratique dans le pays que l'Éternel, le Dieu de vos pères, vous donne en possession tous les jours que vous vivrez sur la terre.

2 Overturn all the places where the nations, which you will possess, worshipped their gods on lofty mountains, and on hills, and under every leafy tree.

Vous détruirez tous les lieux où les nations que vous allez déposséder servaient leurs dieux, sur les hautes montagnes, sur les collines et sous tout arbre vert.

3 Scatter their altars and break their statues. Burn their sacred groves with fire and crush their idols. Abolish their names from those places.

Tu briseras leurs autels, tu mettras en pièces leurs colonnes et tu brûleras au feu leurs mâts d'ashère. Tu abattras les images gravées de leurs dieux. Tu détruiras leur nom hors de ce lieu.

4 But you shall not do the same to the Lord your God.

Tu n'agiras pas ainsi à l'égard de Yahvé, ton Dieu.

5 Instead, you shall approach the place which the Lord your God will choose among all your tribes, so that he may set his name there, and may dwell in that place.

Mais au lieu que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, choisira parmi toutes tes tribus pour y placer son nom, tu chercheras sa demeure, et tu y viendras.

6 And you shall offer, in that place, your holocausts and victims, the tithes and first-fruits of your hands, and your vows and gifts, the firstborn of the cattle and of the sheep.

Tu y apporteras tes holocaustes, tes sacrifices, tes dîmes, l'offrande de ta main, tes vœux, tes offrandes volontaires, et les premiers-nés de ton gros et de ton menu bétail.

7 And you shall eat it there, in the sight of the Lord your God. And you shall rejoice in all the things to which you shall set your hand: you and your household, which the Lord your God has blessed for you.

C'est là que tu mangeras devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et que tu te réjouiras de tout ce que tu auras entrepris, toi et tes familles, et pour lequel l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'aura béni.

8 You shall not do there the things that we are doing here today: each one doing what seems good to himself.

Vous ne ferez pas toutes les choses que nous faisons ici aujourd'hui, chacun faisant ce qui est juste à ses propres yeux;

9 For even until the present time, you did not arrive at the rest and the possession, which the Lord your God will give to you.

car vous n'êtes pas encore arrivés au repos et à l'héritage que l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous donne.

10 You shall cross over the Jordan, and you shall live in the land which the Lord your God will give to you, so that you may have rest from all the surrounding enemies, and so that you may live without any fear,

Mais quand tu auras passé le Jourdain et que tu seras établi dans le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne en héritage, quand il t'aura délivré de tous tes ennemis qui t'entourent et que tu habiteras en sécurité,

11 in the place which the Lord your God will choose, so that his name may be in it. To that place, you shall bring all the things that I instruct you: holocausts, and victims, and tithes, and the first-fruits of your hands, and whatever is best among the gifts that you shall vow to the Lord.

alors, au lieu que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, choisira pour y faire résider son nom, tu apporteras tout ce que je t'ordonnerai: tes holocaustes, tes sacrifices, tes dîmes, l'offrande de ta main, et tous les vœux que tu feras à l'Éternel.

12 In that place, you shall feast before the Lord your God: you, and your sons and daughters, your men and women servants, as well as the Levite who dwells in your cities. For he has no other portion or possession among you.

Tu te réjouiras devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, toi, tes fils, tes filles, tes serviteurs, tes servantes, et le Lévite qui est dans tes portes, car il n'a ni part ni héritage avec toi.

13 Take care that you do not offer your holocausts in any place that you see.

Prends garde de ne pas offrir tes holocaustes dans tous les lieux que tu verras;

14 Instead, you shall offer sacrifices in the place which the Lord will choose within one of your tribes, and you shall do whatsoever I instruct you.

mais dans le lieu que l'Éternel choisira dans l'une de tes tribus, là tu offriras tes holocaustes, et là tu feras tout ce que je te commanderai.

15 So, if you wish to eat, and if the eating of flesh pleases you, then kill and eat according to the blessing of the Lord your God, which he has given to you, in your cities: you may eat it whether it is unclean, that is, having blemish or defect, or whether it is clean, that is, whole and without blemish, of the kind which is permitted to be offered, such as the roe deer and the stag.

Mais tu pourras tuer et manger de la viande dans toutes tes portes, selon tous les désirs de ton âme, selon la bénédiction que Yahvé ton Dieu t'a accordée. L'impur et le pur pourront en manger, comme de la gazelle et du cerf.

16 Only the blood you shall not eat. Instead, you shall pour it upon the ground like water.

Seulement, tu ne mangeras pas le sang. Tu le répandras sur la terre comme de l'eau.

17 You may not eat in your towns the tithes of your crops, and your wine and oil, the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, nor anything which you will vow, or which you will offer spontaneously, nor the first-fruits of your hands.

Tu ne mangeras pas dans tes portes la dîme de ton blé, de ton moût ou de ton huile, ni les premiers-nés de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, ni les vœux que tu fais, ni les offrandes volontaires, ni l'offrande de ta main.

18 But you shall eat these before the Lord your God, in the place which the Lord your God will choose: you, and your son, and your daughter, and your man servant and woman servant, and the Levite who dwells in your cities. And you shall rejoice and be refreshed in the sight of the Lord your God by all the things to which you will extend your hand.

Mais tu les mangeras devant Yahvé ton Dieu, dans le lieu que choisira Yahvé ton Dieu, toi, ton fils, ta fille, ton serviteur, ta servante, et le Lévite qui sera dans tes portes. Tu te réjouiras devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout ce que tu entreprendras.

19 Be careful, lest you abandon the Levite, at any time while you are living in the land.

Prends garde de ne pas abandonner le Lévite tant que tu vivras dans ton pays.

20 When the Lord your God will have enlarged your borders, just as he has spoken to you, and when you would eat the flesh that your soul desires,

Lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, aura agrandi ton territoire, comme il te l'a promis, et que tu diras: « Je veux manger de la viande », parce que ton âme désire manger de la viande, tu pourras manger de la viande, selon le désir de ton âme.

21 but if the place which the Lord your God will choose, so that his name may be there, is far away, you may kill, from your herds and your flocks which you will have, in the manner I have instructed to you, and you may eat in your towns, as it pleases you.

Si le lieu que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, choisira pour y placer son nom est trop éloigné de toi, tu tueras de ton troupeau et de ton menu bétail, que l'Éternel t'a donnés, comme je te l'ai ordonné, et tu mangeras dans tes portes, selon le désir de ton âme.

22 Just as the roe deer and the stag may be eaten, so also may you eat these: you may eat both the clean and the unclean alike.

Vous en mangerez comme on mange de la gazelle et du cerf. L'impur et le pur pourront en manger de la même manière.

23 Only beware of this: you may not eat the blood. For their blood is for the soul. And because of this, you must not eat the soul with the flesh.

Veille seulement à ne pas manger le sang, car le sang est la vie. Vous ne mangerez pas la vie avec la viande.

24 Instead, you shall pour it upon the ground like water,

Vous ne le mangerez pas. Vous le répandrez sur la terre comme de l'eau.

25 so that it may be well with you, and with your sons after you, when you will do what is pleasing in the sight of the Lord.

Vous n'en mangerez pas, afin qu'il vous soit agréable, à vous et à vos enfants après vous, de faire ce qui est bien aux yeux de l'Éternel.

26 But the things that you have sanctified and vowed to the Lord, you shall take up and bring to the place which the Lord will choose.

Tu ne prendras que tes objets sacrés et tes vœux, et tu iras au lieu que choisira l'Éternel.

27 And you shall offer your oblations of flesh and of blood upon the altar of the Lord your God. You shall poor out the blood of your victims upon the altar. And you yourself shall eat the flesh.

Tu offriras tes holocaustes, la viande et le sang, sur l'autel de l'Éternel, ton Dieu. Tu verseras le sang de tes sacrifices sur l'autel de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et tu mangeras la viande.

28 Observe and heed all the things that I instruct to you, so that it may be well with you, and with your sons after you, continually, when you will do what is good and pleasing in the sight of the Lord your God.

Observe et écoute toutes ces paroles que je te prescris, afin que tout aille bien pour toi et pour tes enfants après toi, à perpétuité, si tu fais ce qui est bon et droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

29 When the Lord your God will have abolished before your face the nations, which you shall enter so as to possess them, and when you will possess them and live in their land,

Lorsque Yahvé, ton Dieu, aura exterminé devant toi les nations que tu auras dépossédées, que tu les auras dépossédées et que tu auras habité leur pays,

30 be careful that you do not imitate them, after they have been overturned at your arrival, and that you do not seek their ceremonies, saying: ‘Just as these nations have worshipped their gods, so also will I worship.’

prends garde de ne pas te laisser entraîner à les suivre après qu'elles auront été détruites devant toi, et de ne pas rechercher leurs dieux en disant: « Comment ces nations servent-elles leurs dieux? Je ferai de même. »

31 You shall not act in like manner toward the Lord your God. For they have done to their gods all the abominations that the Lord spurns, offering their sons and daughters, and burning them with fire.

Vous n'agirez pas ainsi à l'égard de Yahvé, votre Dieu, car ils ont fait à leurs dieux toutes les abominations que Yahvé déteste; ils brûlent même au feu leurs fils et leurs filles pour leurs dieux.

32 What I command to you, this only shall you do, for the Lord. You may neither add nor subtract anything.”

Tout ce que je te commanderai, tu auras soin de le mettre en pratique. Tu n'y ajouteras rien et tu n'en retrancheras rien.
