1 Timothy 1
1 Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the authority of God our Savior and Christ Jesus our hope,
Esta carta é escrita por Paulo, apóstolo de Cristo Jesus, escolhido pela autoridade de Deus, nosso Salvador, e de Cristo Jesus, que é a nossa esperança.
2 to Timothy, beloved son in the faith. Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
Estou enviando essa carta a você, Timóteo, meu verdadeiro filho na fé. Que a graça, a misericórdia e a paz de Deus, o Pai, e de Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor, estejam com você.
3 Now I asked you to remain at Ephesus, while I went into Macedonia, so that you would speak strongly against certain ones who have been teaching a different way,
Quando eu estava a caminho da Macedônia, eu lhe pedi para ficar em Éfeso, a fim de que você pudesse falar com aqueles que ensinam doutrinas falsas e insistisse com eles para que parassem de fazer isso.
4 against those who have been paying attention to fables and endless genealogies. These things present questions as if they were greater than the edification that is of God, which is in faith.
Eles não devem se preocupar com lendas e com longas listas de nomes de antepassados. Essas coisas levam apenas a discussões sem sentido, em vez de à compreensão de Deus, da forma como cremos nele.
5 Now the goal of instruction is charity from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and an unfeigned faith.
O motivo para que eu insista nisso é que, assim, nós podemos ter o amor que vem de um coração puro, de uma consciência clara e da sincera fé em Deus.
6 Certain persons, wandering away from these things, have been turned aside to empty babbling,
Alguns se desviaram dessas coisas e acabaram por falar tolices.
7 desiring to be teachers of the law, but understanding neither the things that they themselves are saying, nor what they are affirming about these things.
Eles têm a ambição de serem mestres da lei, mas não fazem ideia do que estão falando ou do que tão corajosamente anunciam!
8 But we know that the law is good, if one makes use of it properly.
Sabemos que a lei é boa se as pessoas a usarem da maneira correta.
9 Knowing this, that the law was not set in place for the just, but for the unjust and the insubordinate, for the impious and sinners, for the wicked and the defiled, for those who commit patricide, matricide, or homicide,
Nós também sabemos que a lei não é feita para aqueles que fazem o que é bom e justo, mas para quem é transgressor e rebelde. Ela se aplica às pessoas que são pecadoras, que não respeitam a Deus nem a religião. Ela é para os que matam os pais e as mães, para os assassinos,
10 for fornicators, for males who sleep with males, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,
para os sexualmente imorais, homossexuais, sequestradores, mentirosos, os que testemunham falsamente e para todo o resto que vai contra os bons ensinamentos.
11 which is in accord with the Gospel of the glory of the blessed God, the Gospel which has been entrusted to me.
Ensinamentos esses que são determinados pelo maravilhoso evangelho do nosso abençoado Deus, que me escolheu.
12 I give thanks to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he has considered me faithful, placing me in the ministry,
Sou muito agradecido a Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor, pela força que ele me deu, e também por me considerar digno de confiança, ao me escolher para trabalhar para Ele.
13 though previously I was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and contemptuous. But then I obtained the mercy of God. For I had been acting ignorantly, in unbelief.
Embora eu antes tivesse dito blasfêmias contra Deus, perseguisse e abusasse do seu povo escolhido, ele teve misericórdia de mim, por causa de minha ignorância e falta de fé.
14 And so the grace of our Lord has abounded greatly, with the faith and love that is in Christ Jesus.
Nosso Senhor derramou sua imensa graça sobre mim, para que eu compartilhasse a fé e o amor que vêm de Cristo Jesus.
15 It is a faithful saying, and worthy of acceptance by everyone, that Christ Jesus came into this world to bring salvation to sinners, among whom I am first.
Você pode confiar nesta afirmação, a qual todos devem aceitar: “Cristo Jesus veio a este mundo para salvar os pecadores”, e eu sou o pior dos pecadores.
16 But it was for this reason that I obtained mercy, so that in me as first, Christ Jesus would display all patience, for the instruction of those who would believe in him unto eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
Por essa razão, Deus me mostrou misericórdia. Por eu ser o pior dos pecadores, Jesus Cristo pôde demonstrar sua infinita paciência, como um exemplo para aqueles que escolhem crer nele e ganhar a vida eterna. (aiōnios g166)
17 So then, to the King of ages, to the immortal, invisible, solitary God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
Honra e glória para todo o sempre ao Rei eterno, imortal, invisível e único Deus! Amém! (aiōn g165)
18 This precept I commend to you, my son Timothy, in accord with the prophets who preceded you: that you serve among them like a soldier in a good war,
Timóteo, meu filho, essas são orientações que eu quero lhe dar, seguindo as profecias que o trouxeram até aqui, para que você possa combater bem.
19 holding to faith and good conscience, against those who, by rejecting these things, have made a shipwreck of the faith.
Continue a crer em Deus e a garantir que a sua consciência se mantenha limpa. Algumas pessoas se recusaram a fazer isso e viram a sua fé em Deus naufragar.
20 Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they may learn not to blaspheme.
Himeneu e Alexandre são pessoas desse tipo. Por isso, eu os “entreguei a Satanás”, para que aprendam a não mais blasfemar contra Deus.
