Sophonias 1

1 The word of the Lord which came to Sophonias the son of Chusi, the son of Godolias, the son of Amorias, the son of Ezekias, in the days of Josias son of Amon, king of Juda.

Parole du Seigneur, qui vint à Sophonie, fils de Chusi, fils de Godolias, fils d'Amorias, fils d'Ézécias, durant les jours de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda.

2 Let there be an utter cutting off from the face of the land, says the Lord.

Que toute chose tombe de défaillance sur la face de la terre, dit le Seigneur.

3 Let man and cattle be cut off; let the birds of the air and the fishes of the sea be cut off; and the ungodly shall fail, and I will take away the transgressors from the face of the land, says the Lord.

Que l'homme et les bêtes disparaissent; que disparaissent les oiseaux du ciel et les poissons de la mer; et les impies seront sans force, et Je chasserai les pécheurs de la face de la terre, dit le Seigneur.

4 And I will stretch out mine hand upon Juda, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will remove the names of Baal out of this place, and the names of the priests;

Et J'étendrai Ma main sur Juda et sur les habitants de Jérusalem; et J'effacerai de ce lieu les noms de Baal et de ses prêtres,

5 and them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and swear by the Lord, and them that swear by their king;

et ceux qui adorent sur leurs terrasses l'armée du ciel, et se prosternent en jurant par le Seigneur, et ceux qui jurent par leur roi,

6 and them that turn aside from the Lord, and them that seek not the Lord, and them that cleave not to the Lord.

et ceux qui s'éloignent du Seigneur, et ceux qui ne cherchent pas le Seigneur, et ceux qui ne s'attachent pas au Seigneur.

7 Fear you before the Lord God; for the day of the Lord is near; for the Lord has prepared his sacrifice, and has sanctified his guests.

Craignez la face du Seigneur Dieu; car le jour du Seigneur est proche, et le Seigneur a préparé Sa victoire, et Il a sanctifié Ses convives.

8 And it shall come to pass in the day of the Lord's sacrifice, that I will take vengeance on the princes, and on the king's house, and upon all that wear strange apparel.

Et il arrivera que, le jour du sacrifice du Seigneur, Je tirerai vengeance des princes et de la maison du roi, et de tous ceux qui ont porté des vêtements étrangers.

9 And I will openly take vengeance on the porches in that day, [on the men] that fill the house of the Lord their God with ungodliness and deceit.

Et ce jour-là Je tirerai dans les parvis une vengeance éclatante de ceux qui remplissent d'impiété et de fraude le temple du Seigneur leur Dieu.

10 And there shall be in that day, says the Lord, the sound of a cry from the gate of men slaying, and a howling from the second [gate], and a great crashing from the hills.

Et ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur, il y aura des cris à la porte des Assaillants, des hurlements à la seconde porte, et de grands brisements de cœur sur les collines.

11 Lament, you that inhabit the [city] that has been broken down, for all the people has become like Chanaan; and all that were exalted by silver have been utterly destroyed.

Pleurez, vous qui habitez cette ville abattue; car tout le peuple est devenu comme Chanaan, et tous ceux qui se glorifiaient de leur argent ont été exterminés.

12 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] I will search Jerusalem with a candle, and will take vengeance on the men that despise the things committed to them; but they say in their hearts, The Lord will not do any good, neither will he do any evil.

Et en ce jour-là, Je chercherai Jérusalem la lampe à la main, et Je tirerai vengeance des hommes qui méprisent Mes commandements, et qui disent en leur cœur: Le Seigneur ne fera pas de bien, Il ne fera pas de mal.

13 And their power shall be for a spoil, and their houses for utter desolation; and they shall build houses, but shall not dwell in them; and they shall plant vineyards, but shall not drink the wine of them.

Leur richesse sera mise au pillage, et leurs maisons en ruines. Ils se bâtiront des demeures, et ils ne les habiteront pas; ils planteront des vignes, et ils n'en boiront pas le vin.

14 For the great day of the Lord [is] near, [it is] near, and very speedy; the sound of the day of the Lord is made bitter and harsh.

Car le grand jour du Seigneur est proche; il est proche, il accourt. Le bruit du jour du Seigneur est lamentable et terrible.

15 A mighty day of wrath is that day, a day of affliction and distress, a day of desolation and destruction, a day of gloominess and darkness, a day of cloud and vapour,

Le jour de Sa colère est un grand jour; ce jour-là est un jour d'affliction et de calamité; c'est un jour d'angoisse et d'extermination, un jour d'ombre et de ténèbres, un jour de nuages et de vapeurs.

16 a day of the trumpet and cry against the strong cities, and against the high towers.

En ce jour-là, sur les villes fortes et sur les cimes élevées, les cris et les trompettes retentissent.

17 And I will greatly afflict the men, and they shall walk as blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord; therefore he shall pour out their blood as dust, and their flesh as dung.

Et J'écraserai tous les hommes, et ils marcheront comme des aveugles; car ils ont péché contre le Seigneur; et Il répandra leur sang comme la poussière, et leurs chairs comme le fumier.

18 And their silver and their gold shall in nowise be able to rescue them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealously; for he will bring a speedy destruction on all them that inhabit the land.

Et au jour de la colère du Seigneur, ni leur argent ni leur or ne pourront les sauver; et, dans le feu de Son zèle, toute la terre périra, car Il aura hâte d'exterminer jusqu'au dernier de tous ceux qui l'habitent.
