< Psalms 6 >

1 For the End, a Psalm of David amongst the Hymns for the eighth. O Lord, rebuke me not in your wrath, neither chasten me in your anger.
For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David. LORD, don’t rebuke me in your anger, neither discipline me in your wrath.
2 Pity me, O Lord; for I am weak: heal me, O Lord; for my bones are vexed.
Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint. LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
3 My soul also is grievously vexed: but you, O Lord, how long?
My soul is also in great anguish. But you, LORD—how long?
4 Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: save me for your mercy's sake.
Return, LORD. Deliver my soul, and save me for your loving kindness’ sake.
5 For in death no man remembers you: and who will give you thanks in Hades? (Sheol h7585)
For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks? (Sheol h7585)
6 I am wearied with my groaning; I shall wash my bed every night; I shall water my couch with tears.
I am weary with my groaning. Every night I flood my bed. I drench my couch with my tears.
7 Mine eye is troubled because of my wrath; I am worn out because of all my enemies.
My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
8 Depart from me, all you that work iniquity; for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.
9 The Lord has listened to my petition; the Lord has accepted my prayer.
The LORD has heard my supplication. The LORD accepts my prayer.
10 Let all mine enemies be put to shame and sore troubled: let them be turned back and grievously put to shame speedily.
May all my enemies be ashamed and dismayed. They shall turn back, they shall be disgraced suddenly.
