Psalms 139
1 For the end, a Psalm of David. O Lord, you have proved me, and known me.
Au chef de musique. De David. Psaume. Éternel! tu m’as sondé, et tu m’as connu.
2 You know my down-sitting and mine up-rising: you understand my thoughts long before.
Tu connais quand je m’assieds et quand je me lève, tu discernes de loin ma pensée;
3 You have traced my path and my bed, and have foreseen all my ways.
Tu connais mon sentier et mon coucher, et tu es au fait de toutes mes voies.
4 For there is no unrighteous word in my tongue: behold, O Lord, you have known all things,
Car la parole n’est pas encore sur ma langue, que voilà, ô Éternel! tu la connais tout entière.
5 the last and the first: you have fashioned me, and laid your hand upon me.
Tu me tiens serré par-derrière et par-devant, et tu as mis ta main sur moi, …
6 The knowledge of you is too wonderful for me; it is very difficult, I can’t [attain] to it.
Connaissance trop merveilleuse pour moi, si élevée que je n’y puis [atteindre]!
7 Whither shall I go from your Spirit? and whither shall I flee from my presence?
Où irai-je loin de ton Esprit? et où fuirai-je loin de ta face?
8 If I should go up to heaven, you are there: if I should go down to hell, you are present. (Sheol h7585)
Si je monte aux cieux, tu y es; si je me couche au shéol, t’y voilà. (Sheol h7585)
9 If I should spread my wings [to fly] straight forward, and sojourn at the extremity of the sea, [it would be vain],
Si je prends les ailes de l’aube du jour, si je fais ma demeure au bout de la mer,
10 for even there your hand would guide me, and your right hand would hold me.
Là aussi ta main me conduira et ta droite me saisira.
11 When I said, Surely the darkness will cover me; even the night [was] light in my luxury.
Et si je dis: Au moins les ténèbres m’envelopperont, – alors la nuit est lumière autour de moi.
12 For darkness will not be darkness with you; but night will be light as day: as its darkness, so shall its light [be to you].
Les ténèbres même ne sont pas obscures pour [me] cacher à toi, et la nuit resplendit comme le jour, l’obscurité est comme la lumière.
13 For you, O Lord, have possessed my reins; you have helped me from my mother's womb.
Car tu as possédé mes reins, tu m’as tissé dans le ventre de ma mère.
14 I will give you thanks; for you are fearfully wondrous; wondrous are your works; and my soul knows [it] well.
Je te célébrerai de ce que j’ai été fait d’une étrange et admirable manière. Tes œuvres sont merveilleuses, et mon âme le sait très bien.
15 My bones, which you made in secret were not hidden from you, nor my substance, in the lowest parts of the earth.
Mes os ne t’ont point été cachés lorsque j’ai été fait dans le secret, façonné comme une broderie dans les lieux bas de la terre.
16 Your eyes saw my unwrought [substance], and all [men] shall be written in your book; they shall be formed by day, though [there should for a time] be no one amongst them.
Tes yeux ont vu ma substance informe, et dans ton livre [mes membres] étaient tous écrits; de jour en jour ils se formaient, lorsqu’il n’y en avait [encore] aucun.
17 But your friends, O God, have been greatly honoured by me; their rule has been greatly strengthened.
Combien me sont précieuses tes pensées, ô Dieu! combien en est grande la somme!
18 I will number them, and they shall be multiplied beyond the sand; I awake, and am still with you.
Si je veux les compter, elles sont plus nombreuses que le sable. Si je me réveille, je suis encore avec toi.
19 Oh that you would kill the wicked, O God; depart from me, you men of blood.
Ô Dieu! si tu voulais tuer le méchant! Et vous, hommes de sang, retirez-vous de moi; …
20 For you will say concerning [their] thought, [that] they shall take your cities in vain.
Eux qui parlent contre toi astucieusement, qui prennent [ton nom] en vain, tes ennemis!
21 Have I not hated them, O Lord, that hate you? and wasted away because of your enemies?
N’ai-je pas en haine, ô Éternel, ceux qui te haïssent? et n’ai-je pas en horreur ceux qui s’élèvent contre toi?
22 I have hated them with perfect hatred; they were counted my enemies.
Je les hais d’une parfaite haine; ils sont pour moi des ennemis.
23 Prove me, O God, and know my heart; examine me, and know my paths;
Sonde-moi, ô Dieu! et connais mon cœur; éprouve-moi, et connais mes pensées.
24 and see if [there is any] way of iniquity in me, and lead me in an everlasting way.
Et regarde s’il y a en moi quelque voie de chagrin, et conduis-moi dans la voie éternelle.
