Proverbs 8
1 You shall proclaim wisdom, that understanding may be obedient to you.
Tu proclameras la Sagesse, afin que la prudence t'obéisse.
2 For she is on lofty eminences, and stands in the midst of the ways.
Car elle se tient sur les cimes des monts; elle est debout au milieu des sentiers.
3 For she sits by the gates of princes, and sings in the entrances, [saying],
Elle s'assied devant les portes des riches, et à l'entrée des villes; elle chante
4 You, O men, I exhort; and utter my voice to the sons of men.
C'est vous, ô hommes, que j'appelle; j'élève ma voix devant les fils des hommes.
5 O you simple, understand subtlety, and you that are untaught, imbibe knowledge.
Comprenez, innocents, la subtilité; et vous, ignorants, déposez la science en votre cœur.
6 Listen to me; for I will speak solemn [truths]; and will produce right [sayings] from my lips.
Écoutez-moi; car je vais dire des choses saintes, et proférer de mes lèvres la justice.
7 For my throat shall meditate truth; and false lips are an abomination before me.
Car ma langue va méditer la vérité, et j'ai en abomination les lèvres menteuses.
8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing in them wrong or perverse.
Toutes les paroles de ma bouche sont selon la justice; en elles rien d'oblique et de tortueux.
9 They are all evident to those that understand, and right to those that find knowledge.
Elles sont toutes offertes à ceux qui comprennent, et justes pour ceux qui trouvent la Sagesse.
10 Receive instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than tried gold.
Recevez l'instruction et non l'argent, et la science plutôt que l'or raffiné.
11 For wisdom is better than precious stones; and no valuable substance is of equal worth with it.
Car la sagesse a plus de prix que les pierres précieuses, et rien de ce que l'on estime de plus précieux ne la vaut.
12 I wisdom have lived [with] counsel and knowledge, and I have called upon understanding.
Moi, la Sagesse, j'ai demeuré avec le conseil et le savoir; j'ai appelé à moi l'intelligence.
13 The fear of the Lord hates unrighteousness, and insolence, and pride, and the ways of wicked men; and I hate the perverse ways of bad men.
La crainte du Seigneur hait l'iniquité, et l'insolence, et l'orgueil et les voies des méchants; et moi aussi, je hais les voies tortueuses des méchants.
14 Counsel and safety are mine; prudence is mine, and strength is mine.
C'est à moi le conseil et la fermeté, à moi la prudence, à moi la force.
15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
Par moi, les rois règnent, et les princes écrivent des jugements équitables.
16 By me nobles become great, and monarchs by me rule over the earth.
Par moi, les grands sont glorifiés; par moi, les monarques commandent à la terre.
17 I love those that love me; and they that seek me shall find [me].
Moi j'aime ceux qui m'aiment, et ceux qui me cherchent me trouvent.
18 Wealth and glory belong to me; yes, abundant possessions and righteousness.
De moi dépendent la fortune et la gloire, et les grandes richesses et la justice.
19 [It is] better to have my fruit than [to have] gold and precious stones; and my produce is better than choice silver.
Mieux vaut recueillir mes fruits que de l'or et des pierres précieuses, et mes rejetons sont meilleurs que l'argent le plus pur.
20 I walk in ways of righteousness, and [am] conversant with the paths of judgement;
Je me promène dans les voies de l'équité, et je reviens par les voies de la justice;
21 that I may divide substance to them that love me, and may fill their treasures with good things. If I declare to you the things that daily happen, I will remember [also] to recount the things of old.
pour distribuer à ceux qui m'aiment une part de mes richesses, et remplir de biens leurs trésors. Après vous avoir publié ce qui arrive chaque jour, je vais énumérer les choses qui sont de toute éternité.
22 The Lord made me the beginning of his ways for his works.
Le Seigneur m'a créé au commencement de Ses voies, pour faire Ses œuvres.
23 He established me before time [was] in the beginning, before he made the earth:
Il m'a établie avant le temps, au commencement, avant de créer la terre,
24 even before he made the depths; before the fountains of water came forth:
et avant de créer les abîmes, avant que l'eau jaillit des fontaines.
25 before the mountains were settled, and before all hills, he begets me.
Il m'a engendrée avant que les montagnes et les collines fussent affermies.
26 The Lord made countries and uninhabited [tracks], and the highest inhabited parts of the world.
Le Seigneur a fait les champs et les déserts, et les cimes habitées sous le ciel.
27 When he prepared the heaven, I was present with him; and when he prepared his throne upon the winds:
Quand Il a préparé le ciel, j'étais auprès de Lui, et lorsqu'Il a élevé Son trône sur les vents,
28 and when he strengthened the clouds above; and when he secured the fountains of the earth:
et lorsqu'en haut Il a donné aux nuées leur cohérence, et aux fontaines qui sont sous le ciel leur équilibre,
29 decree. and when he strengthened the foundations of the earth:
et lorsqu'Il a affermi les fondements de la terre;
30 I was by him, suiting [myself to him], I was that wherein he took delight; and daily I rejoiced in his presence continually.
j'étais là, près de Lui, disposant tout avec Lui; j'étais là, et Il Se délectait en moi; chaque jour, à tout moment, je me réjouissais de la vue de Son visage;
31 For he rejoiced when he had completed the world, and rejoiced amongst the children of men.
lorsqu'Il S'applaudissait d'avoir achevé la terre, et Se complaisait dans les fils des hommes.
32 Now then, [my] son, hear me: blessed is the man who shall listen to me, and the mortal who shall keep my ways;
Maintenant donc, mon fils, écoute-moi:
33 [Hear wisdom and be wise, and be not strangers to it. ]
34 watching daily at my doors, waiting at the posts of my entrances.
Heureux l'homme qui m'écoutera, et le mortel qui gardera mes voies, veillant le jour à mes portes et gardant le seuil de ma demeure.
35 For my outgoings are the outgoings of life, and [in them] is prepared favour from the Lord.
Car mes portes sont des portes de vie, et en elles réside la volonté du Seigneur.
36 But they that sin against me act wickedly against their own souls: and they that hate me love death.
Ceux qui pèchent contre moi outragent leur âme, et ceux qui me haïssent aiment la mort.
