Proverbs 2

1 [My] son, if you will receive the utterance of my commandment, and hide it with you;

Mon fils, si tu reçois la parole de mon commandement, si tu la tiens cachée en toi-même,

2 your ear shall listen to wisdom; you shall also apply your heart to understanding, and shall apply it to the instruction of your son.

ton oreille écoutera la Sagesse, et tu inclineras ton cœur à la prudence, et tu l'appliqueras à l'enseignement de ton fils.

3 For it you shall call to wisdom, and utter your voice for understanding;

Car si tu invoques la Sagesse, et si tu appelles à haute voix la prudence, et si tu demandes à grands cris la doctrine,

4 and if you shall seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures;

et si tu la recherches comme de l'argent, et si tu la creuses comme un trésor,

5 then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

alors tu comprendras la crainte du Seigneur, et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.

6 For the Lord gives wisdom; and from his presence [come] knowledge and understanding,

Car c'est le Seigneur qui donne la sagesse, et de Sa face viennent l'intelligence et le savoir.

7 and he treasures up salvation for them that walk uprightly: he will protect their way;

Et Il thésaurise le salut pour ceux qui font le bien; Il protège leurs voies,

8 that he may guard the righteous ways: and he will preserve the way of them that fear him.

pour qu'ils marchent dans la justice, et Lui-même veille sur la voie de ceux qui Le révèrent.

9 Then shall you understand righteousness, and judgement; and shall direct all your course aright.

Alors tu comprendras la justice et le jugement, et tu garderas droits tes sentiers.

10 For if wisdom shall come into your understanding, and discernment shall seem pleasing to your soul,

Car si la sagesse entre dans ta pensée, et si la doctrine semble bonne à ton âme,

11 good counsel shall guard you, and holy understanding shall keep you;

le bon conseil te gardera, et l'intelligence sainte te conservera;

12 to deliver you from the evil way, and from the man that speaks nothing faithfully.

pour te délivrer de la voie mauvaise et de l'homme dont la parole est infidèle.

13 Alas [for those] who forsake right paths, to walk in ways of darkness;

Ô vous qui avez abandonné le droit chemin pour marcher dans la voie des ténèbres,

14 who rejoice in evils, and delight in wicked perverseness;

qui vous complaisez dans le mal, et vous réjouissez de la perversité,

15 whose paths are crooked, and their courses winding;

dont les sentiers sont obliques, et les ornières tortueuses,

16 to remove you far from the straight way, and to estrange you from a righteous purpose. [My] son, let not evil counsel overtake you,

vous chercherez à éloigner mon fils du droit chemin, et à le rendre étranger à la justice. Ô mon fils, ne te laisse pas surprendre par leur mauvais conseil!

17 [of her] who has forsaken the instruction of her youth, and forgotten the covenant of God.

Celle qui délaisse le compagnon de sa virginité,

18 For she has fixed her house near death, and [guided] her wheels near Hades with the giants.

et qui oublie l'alliance divine, a mis sa maison près de la mort, et ses voies près de l'enfer avec les fils de la terre. (questioned)

19 None that go by her shall return, neither shall they take hold of right paths, for they are not apprehended of the years of life.

Aucun de ceux qui vont avec elle ne reviendra, et ils ne reprendront pas les droits sentiers; car ils ne se maintiendront pas dans les longues années de la vie.

20 For had they gone in good paths, they would have found the paths of righteousness easy.

Et s'ils avaient marché dans les bons sentiers, ils auraient sûrement trouvé faciles les sentiers de la justice.

21 For the upright shall dwell in the earth, and the holy shall be left behind in it.

[Les débonnaires auront leur demeure sur la terre et les innocents y seront laissés] Les cœurs droits habiteront la terre, et les saints y seront établis.

22 The paths of the ungodly shall perish out of the earth, and transgressors shall be driven away from it.

Les voies des impies seront effacées sur la terre, et les pervers en seront expulsés.
