Numbers 5
1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
Et l’Éternel parla à Moïse, disant:
2 Charge the children of Israel, and let them send forth out of the camp every leper, and every one who has in issue of the reins, and every one who is unclean from a dead body.
Commande aux fils d’Israël qu’ils mettent hors du camp tout lépreux, et quiconque a un flux, et quiconque est impur pour un mort.
3 Whether male or female, send them forth out of the camp; and they shall not defile their camps in which I dwell amongst them.
Tant homme que femme, vous les mettrez dehors; vous les mettrez hors du camp, afin qu’ils ne rendent pas impurs leurs camps, au milieu desquels j’habite.
4 And the children of Israel did so, and sent them out of the camp: as the Lord said to Moses, so did the children of Israel.
Et les fils d’Israël firent ainsi, et les mirent hors du camp; comme l’Éternel avait dit à Moïse, ainsi firent les fils d’Israël.
5 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
Et l’Éternel parla à Moïse, disant:
6 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Every man or woman who shall commit any sin that is common to man, or if that soul shall in anyway have neglected the commandment and transgressed;
Parle aux fils d’Israël: Si un homme ou une femme a commis quelqu’un de tous les péchés de l’homme, en commettant une infidélité envers l’Éternel, et que cette âme-là se soit rendue coupable,
7 [that person] shall confess the sin which he has committed, and shall make satisfaction for his trespass: he [shall pay] the principal, and shall add to it the fifth part, and shall make restoration to him against whom he has trespassed.
ils confesseront leur péché qu’ils ont commis; et le coupable restituera en principal ce en quoi il s’est rendu coupable, et il y ajoutera un cinquième, et le donnera à celui envers qui il s’est rendu coupable.
8 But if a man have no near kinsman, so as to make satisfaction for his trespass to him, the trespass-offering paid to the Lord shall be for the priest, besides the ram of atonement, by which he shall make atonement with it for him.
Et si l’homme n’a pas de proche parent à qui restituer la chose due, alors la chose due, restituée à l’Éternel, sera au sacrificateur, outre le bélier de propitiation avec lequel on fera propitiation pour lui.
9 And every first fruits in all the sanctified things amongst the children of Israel, whatever they shall offer to the Lord, shall be for the priest himself.
Et toute offrande élevée de toutes les choses saintes des fils d’Israël qu’ils présenteront au sacrificateur, sera à lui.
10 And the hallowed things of every man shall be his; and whatever man shall give [any thing] to the priest, the gift shall be his.
Et les choses saintes de chacun seront à lui; ce que chacun donnera au sacrificateur sera à lui.
11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
Et l’Éternel parla à Moïse, disant:
12 Speak to the children of Israel, and you shall say to them, Whosesoever wife shall transgress against him, and slight and despise him,
Parle aux fils d’Israël, et dis-leur: Si la femme de quelqu’un se détourne et lui devient infidèle,
13 and [supposing] any one shall lie with her carnally, and the thing shall be hid from the eyes of her husband, and she should conceal it and be herself defiled, and there be no witness with her, and she should not be taken;
et qu’un homme couche avec elle, ayant commerce avec elle, et que cela soit caché aux yeux de son mari, et qu’elle se soit rendue impure en secret, et qu’il n’y ait pas de témoin contre elle, et qu’elle n’ait pas été surprise;
14 and there should come upon him a spirit of jealousy, and he should be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled; or there should come upon him a spirit of jealousy, and he should be jealous of his wife, and she should not be defiled;
– et que l’esprit de jalousie vienne sur lui et qu’il soit jaloux de sa femme, et qu’elle se soit rendue impure; ou si l’esprit de jalousie vient sur lui et qu’il soit jaloux de sa femme, et qu’elle ne se soit pas rendue impure;
15 then shall the man bring his wife to the priest, and shall bring his gift for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley-meal: he shall not pour oil upon it, neither shall he put frankincense upon it; for it is a sacrifice of jealousy, a sacrifice of memorial, recalling sin to remembrance.
– alors l’homme amènera sa femme au sacrificateur, et il apportera pour elle son offrande, le dixième d’un épha de farine d’orge; il ne versera pas d’huile dessus et n’y mettra pas d’encens, car c’est une offrande de gâteau de jalousie, un gâteau de mémorial, qui met en mémoire l’iniquité.
16 And the priest shall bring her, and cause her to stand before the Lord.
Et le sacrificateur la fera approcher, et la fera se tenir devant l’Éternel;
17 And the priest shall take pure running water in an earthen vessel, and he shall take of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle of witness, and the priest having taken it shall cast it into the water.
et le sacrificateur prendra de l’eau sainte dans un vase de terre, et le sacrificateur prendra de la poussière qui sera sur le sol du tabernacle, et la mettra dans l’eau.
18 And the priest shall cause the woman to stand before the Lord, and shall uncover the head of the woman, and shall put into her hands the sacrifice of memorial, the sacrifice of jealousy; and in the hand of the priest shall be the water of this conviction that brings the curse.
Et le sacrificateur fera tenir la femme debout devant l’Éternel, et découvrira la tête de la femme et mettra sur les paumes de ses mains le gâteau de mémorial; c’est un gâteau de jalousie; et dans la main du sacrificateur seront les eaux amères qui apportent la malédiction.
19 And the priest shall adjure her, and shall say to the woman, If no one has lain with you, and if you have not transgressed so as to be polluted, being under the power of your husband, be free from this water of the conviction that causes the curse.
Et le sacrificateur adjurera la femme, et lui dira: Si un homme n’a pas couché avec toi, et si tu ne t’es pas détournée et rendue impure en étant avec un autre que ton mari, sois quitte de [l’effet de] ces eaux amères qui apportent la malédiction.
20 But if being a married woman you have transgressed, or been polluted, and any one has lain with you, beside your husband:
Mais si tu t’es détournée en étant avec un autre que ton mari, et que tu te sois rendue impure, et qu’un autre que ton mari ait couché avec toi: …
21 then the priest shall adjure the woman by the oaths of this curse, and the priest shall say to the woman, The Lord bring you into a curse and under an oath in the midst of your people, in that the Lord should cause your thigh to rot and your belly to swell;
alors le sacrificateur adjurera la femme avec un serment d’exécration, et le sacrificateur dira à la femme: Que l’Éternel fasse de toi une exécration et un serment, au milieu de ton peuple, l’Éternel faisant dessécher ta hanche et enfler ton ventre;
22 and this water bringing the curse shall enter into your womb to cause your belly to swell, and your thigh to rot. And the woman shall say, So be it, So be it.
et ces eaux qui apportent la malédiction entreront dans tes entrailles pour te faire enfler le ventre et pour faire dessécher ta hanche. Et la femme dira: Amen! amen!
23 And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and shall blot them out with the water of the conviction that brings the curse.
– Et le sacrificateur écrira ces exécrations dans un livre, et les effacera avec les eaux amères.
24 And he shall cause the woman to drink the water of the conviction that brings the curse; and the water of the conviction that brings the curse shall enter into her.
Et il fera boire à la femme les eaux amères qui apportent la malédiction, et les eaux qui apportent la malédiction entreront en elle, pour être amères.
25 And the priest shall take from the hand of the woman the sacrifice of jealousy, and shall present the sacrifice before the Lord, and shall bring it to the altar.
Et le sacrificateur prendra, de la main de la femme, le gâteau de jalousie, et tournoiera le gâteau devant l’Éternel, et le présentera à l’autel.
26 And the priest shall take a handful of the sacrifice as a memorial of it, and shall offer it up upon the altar; and afterwards he shall cause the woman to drink the water.
Et le sacrificateur prendra de l’offrande de gâteau une poignée pour mémorial, et la fera fumer sur l’autel; et après, il fera boire les eaux à la femme.
27 And it shall come to pass, if she be defiled, and have altogether escaped the notice of her husband, then the water of the conviction that brings the curse shall enter into her; and she shall swell in her belly, and her thigh shall rot, and the woman shall be for a curse in the midst of her people.
Quand il lui aura fait boire les eaux, il arrivera que, si elle s’est rendue impure et qu’elle ait été infidèle à son mari, les eaux qui apportent la malédiction entreront en elle pour être amères, et son ventre enflera, et sa hanche se desséchera: et la femme sera une exécration au milieu de son peuple.
28 But if the woman have not been polluted, and be clean, then shall she be guiltless and shall conceive seed.
Et si la femme ne s’est pas rendue impure, mais qu’elle soit pure, alors elle sera quitte, et elle aura des enfants.
29 This is the law of jealousy, wherein a married woman should happen to transgress, and be defiled;
Telle est la loi de jalousie, quand une femme se sera détournée pour être avec un autre que son mari et se sera rendue impure,
30 or in the case of a man on whoever the spirit of jealousy should come, and he should be jealous of his wife, and he should place his wife before the Lord, and the priest shall execute towards her all this law.
ou si l’esprit de jalousie est venu sur un homme et qu’il soit jaloux de sa femme: il fera tenir la femme debout devant l’Éternel, et le sacrificateur lui appliquera toute cette loi;
31 Then the man shall be clear from sin, and that woman shall bear her sin.
l’homme sera exempt d’iniquité, et cette femme portera son iniquité.
