Malachias 1
1 The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by the hand of his messenger. Lay [it], I pray you, to heart.
Sentence. Parole de Yahweh à Israël par l’intermédiaire de Malachie.
2 I have loved you, says the Lord. And you said, Wherein have you loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? says the Lord: yet I loved Jacob,
Je vous ai aimés, dit Yahweh; et vous dites: « En quoi nous as-tu aimés? » — Esaü n’est-il pas frère de Jacob? — oracle de Yahweh; et j’ai aimé Jacob,
3 and hated Esau and laid waste his borders, and made his heritage as dwellings of the wilderness?
mais j’ai haï Esaü; j’ai fait de ses montagnes une solitude, et [livré] son héritage aux chacals du désert.
4 Because one will say, Idumea has been overthrown, but let us return and rebuild the desolate places; thus says the Lord Almighty, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The borders of wickedness, and, The people against whom the Lord has set himself for ever.
Si Edom dit: « Nous avons été détruits, mais nous rebâtirons les ruines, » — ainsi parle Yahweh des armées: Eux, ils bâtiront, et moi, je renverserai; et l’on dira d’eux: « Territoire d’iniquité, peuple contre lequel Yahweh est irrité pour toujours. »
5 And your eyes shall see, and you shall say, The Lord has been magnified upon the borders of Israel.
Vos yeux le verront, et vous vous direz: « Que Yahweh soit glorifié sur le territoire d’Israël! »
6 A son honours [his] father, and a servant his master: if then I am a father, where is mine honour? and if I am a master, where is my fear? says the Lord Almighty. You the priests are they that despise my name: yet you said, Wherein have we despised your name?
Un fils honore son père, et un serviteur son maître. Or, si je suis père, moi, où est l’honneur qui m’ [appartient]? Et si je suis Seigneur, où est la crainte qui m’[est due]? dit Yahweh des armées, à vous, prêtres, qui méprisez mon nom. Vous dites: « En quoi avons-nous méprisé ton nom? »
7 In that you bring to mine altar polluted bread; and you said, Wherein have you polluted it? In that you say, The table of the Lord is polluted, and that which was set thereon you have despised.
En ce que vous apportez sur mon autel un pain souillé. Et vous dites: « En quoi t’avons-nous souillé? » [En ce que] vous dites: « La table de Yahweh est chose vile. »
8 For if you bring a blind [victim] for sacrifices, [is it] not evil? and if you bring the lame or the sick, [is it] not evil? offer it now to your ruler, [and see] if he will receive you, if he will accept your person, says the Lord Almighty.
Quand vous présentez une [bête] aveugle pour [la] sacrifier, il n’y a pas de mal! Et quand vous [en] amenez une boiteuse et malade, il n’y a pas de mal! Va donc l’offrir à ton gouverneur? T’agréera-t-il? Te sera-t-il favorable? dit Yahweh des armées.
9 And now entreat the face of your God, and make supplication to him. These things have been done by your hands; shall I accept you? says the Lord Almighty.
Et maintenant, suppliez donc Dieu d’avoir pitié de vous! C’est par votre main que cela s’est fait; sera-t-il amené par vous à avoir des égards? dit Yahweh des armées.
10 Because even amongst you the doors shall be shut, and [one] will not kindle [the fire of] mine altar for nothing, I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord Almighty, and I will not accept a sacrifice at your hands.
Que l’un d’entre vous ne ferme-t-il plutôt les portes, pour que vous n’embrasiez pas mon autel en pure perte! Je ne prends pas plaisir en vous, dit Yahweh des armées, et je n’agrée pas d’offrande de votre main.
11 For from the rising of the sun even to the going down [thereof] my name has been glorified amongst the Gentiles; and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering: for my name is great amongst the Gentiles, says the Lord Almighty.
Car, du lever du soleil à son coucher, mon nom est grand parmi les nations, et en tout lieu on offre à mon nom de l’encens et une oblation pure, car mon nom est grand parmi les nations, dit Yahweh des armées.
12 But you profane it, in that you say, The table of the Lord is polluted, and his meats set thereon are despised.
Et vous, vous le profanez quand vous dites: « La table du Seigneur est souillée, et ce qu’elle rapporte n’est qu’une méprisable nourriture. »
13 And you said, These [services] are troublesome: therefore I have utterly rejected them with scorn, says the Lord Almighty: and you brought in torn victims, and lame, and sick: if then you should bring an offering, shall I accept them at your hands? says the Lord Almighty.
Et vous dites: « Voici! Quel ennui! » et vous la dédaignez, dit Yahweh des armées. Et vous amenez ce qui est dérobé, ce qui est boiteux et ce qui est malade, et vous présentez cette offrande! Puis-je l’agréer de votre main? dit Yahweh.
14 And cursed [is the man] who had the power, and possessed a male in his flock, and whose vow is upon him, and who sacrifices a corrupt thing to the Lord: for I am a great King, says the Lord Almighty, and my name is glorious amongst the nations.
Maudit soit le fraudeur, celui qui, ayant dans son troupeau un mâle, fait un vœu, et sacrifie au Seigneur une [bête] chétive! Car je suis un grand roi, dit Yahweh des armées, et mon nom est redouté chez les nations.
