Malachias 2

1 And now, O priests, this commandment is to you.

Et maintenant voici un ordre pour vous, ô prêtres

2 If you will not listen, and if you will not lay [it] to heart, to give glory to my name, says the Lord Almighty, then I will send forth the curse upon you, and I will bring a curse upon your blessing: yes, I will curse it, and I will scatter your blessing, and it shall not exist amongst you, because you lay not this to heart.

Si vous Me désobéissez, et si vous ne mettez pas en vos cœurs qu'il faut glorifier Mon Nom, dit le Seigneur tout-puissant, Je vous enverrai Ma malédiction; et votre bénédiction sera maudite, et Je la maudirai, et Je la rendrai vaine, et la Mienne ne sera pas en vous, parce que vous n'aurez point déposé Mes paroles en vos cœurs.

3 Behold, I turn my back upon you, and I will scatter dung upon your faces, the dung of your feasts, and I will carry you away at the same time.

Voilà que Je vous prive de l'épaule de vos victimes, et Je répandrai sur votre face leur fiente, la fiente de vos fêtes, et Je vous prendrai en même temps à leur place.

4 And you shall know that I have sent this commandment to you, that my covenant might be with the sons of Levi, says the Lord Almighty.

Et vous connaîtrez que c'est Moi qui vous ai envoyé ce commandement, que Mon alliance doit être avec les lévites, dit le Seigneur tout-puissant.

5 My covenant of life and peace was with him, and I gave [it] him that he might reverently fear me, and that he might be awe-struck at my name.

Mon alliance était avec Lévi, une alliance de vie et de paix, et Je lui avais donné Ma crainte, de sorte qu'à Mon Nom il était frappé de crainte.

6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked before me directing [his way] in peace, and he turned many from unrighteousness.

La loi de vérité était en sa bouche, et nulle iniquité n'eût été trouvée sur ses lèvres; il marchait avec Moi, dirigeant sa voie en paix, et il a détourné du mal nombre d'hommes.

7 For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty.

Les lèvres du prêtre doivent garder la doctrine; on cherchera la loi dans les paroles de sa bouche; car il est l'envoyé du Seigneur tout-puissant.

8 But you have turned aside from the way, and caused many to fail in [following] the law: you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the Lord Almighty.

Mais vous vous êtes retirés de la voie, et vous avez détourné plusieurs de la loi, et vous avez profané l'alliance de Lévi, dit le Seigneur tout-puissant.

9 And I have made you despised and cast out amongst all the people, because you have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.

Aussi ai-Je fait de vous le mépris et le rebut de toutes les nations, parce que vous n'avez point gardé Mes voies, mais qu'en la loi vous avez fait acception des personnes.

10 Have you not all one father? Did not one God create you? why have you forsaken every man his brother, to profane the covenant of your fathers?

N'avez-vous pas tous un seul Père? N'est-ce pas le Dieu unique qui vous a créés? Pourquoi donc chacun de vous a-t-il abandonné son frère en souillant l'alliance de vos ancêtres?

11 Juda has been forsaken, and an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Juda has profaned the holy things of the Lord, which he delighted in, and has gone after other gods.

Juda a failli, et l'abomination a été en Israël et en Jérusalem, parce que Juda a profané les choses saintes du Seigneur, où Dieu Se complaisait, et qu'il s'est attaché à des dieux étrangers.

12 The Lord will utterly destroy the man that does these things, until he be even cast down from out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and from amongst them that offer sacrifice to the Lord Almighty.

Le Seigneur exterminera tout homme qui fera ainsi pour l'expulser des tentes de Jacob, et le séparer de ceux qui sacrifient au Seigneur tout- puissant.

13 And these things which I hated, you did: you covered with tears the altar of the Lord, and with weeping and groaning because of troubles: [is it] meet [for me] to have respect to your sacrifice, or to receive [anything] from your hands [as] welcome?

Et vous avez fait ce que Je déteste; vous avez couvert de larmes l'autel du Seigneur: vous vous êtes frappé la poitrine au milieu des cris et des gémissements. Est-il convenable que Je considère vos victimes, ou que J'agrée quelque chose de vos mains?

14 Yet you said, Therefore? Because the Lord has borne witness between you and the wife of your youth, whom you has forsaken, and [yet] she was your partner, and the wife of your covenant.

Et vous avez dit: Pour quel motif? C'est parce que le Seigneur a porté témoignage contre toi et la femme de ta jeunesse que tu as abandonnée: elle qui était ta compagne; elle qui était la femme de ton alliance.

15 And did he not do well? and [there was] the residue of his spirit. But you said, What does God seek but a seed? But take you heed to your spirit, and forsake not the wife of your youth.

Ne l'a-t-Il pas éternellement créée? n'est-elle pas Son esprit? Et tu as dit: Que demande Dieu, sinon des enfants issus de moi? Or garde cette parole en ton esprit: N'abandonne pas la femme de ta jeunesse.

16 But if you should hate [your wife] and put her away, says the Lord God of Israel, then ungodliness shall cover your thoughts, says the Lord Almighty: therefore take you heed to your spirit, and forsake [them] not,

Mais si, l'ayant haïe, tu la répudies, dit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, l'impiété couvrira toutes tes pensées, dit le Seigneur tout-puissant; c'est pourquoi garde cette parole en ton esprit: N'abandonne pas la femme de ta jeunesse.

17 you that have provoked God with your words. But you said, Wherein have we provoked him? In that you say, Every one that does evil is a pleasing [object] in the sight of the Lord, and he takes pleasure in such; and where is the God of justice?

Ô vous qui, par vos paroles, provoquez Dieu, et qui dites: En quoi L'avons-nous provoqué? C'est en disant: Quiconque fait le mal est bien vu du Seigneur; Il Se complaît en ceux-là; où donc est le Dieu de la justice?
