Jeremias 27
1 THE WORD OF THE LORD WHICH HE SPOKE AGAINST BABYLON.
Parole du Seigneur qu'il a prononcée sur Babylone.
2 Proclaim you amongst the Gentiles, and cause the tidings to be heard, and suppress [them] not: say you, Babylon is taken, Belus is confounded; the fearless, the luxurious Maerodach is delivered up.
Proclamez parmi les nations, faites entendre ces choses et ne les cachez pas. Dites que Babylone a succombé, que Bel a été confondu, et que Mérodach, qui vivait sans crainte et dans la mollesse, a été livré.
3 For a nation has come up against her from the north, he shall utterly ravage her land, and there shall be none to dwell in it, neither man nor beast.
Car un peuple de l'aquilon est en marche contre elle; il effacera cette contrée, depuis l'homme jusqu'à la bête, et nul ne l'habitera plus.
4 In those days, and at that time, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Juda together; they shall proceed, weeping as they go, seeking the Lord their God.
En ces jours et en ce temps-là, les fils d'Israël reviendront eux-mêmes, et avec eux, an même instant, les fils de Juda; ils marcheront pleurant et cherchant le Seigneur.
5 They shall ask the way till [they come to] Sion, for that way shall they set their face; and they shall come and flee for refuge to the Lord their God; for the everlasting covenant shall not be forgotten.
Ils interrogeront la voie pour aller à Sion; car c'est de ce côté qu'ils tourneront le visage; ils y arriveront et ils se réfugieront auprès du Seigneur Dieu; car l'alliance éternelle ne sera point mise en oubli.
6 My people have been lost sheep: their shepherds thrust them out, they caused them to wander on the mountains: they went from mountain to hill, they forgot their resting-place.
Mon peuple est devenu un troupeau de brebis errantes; leurs pasteurs les ont dispersées; ils les ont égarées dans les montagnes; elles ont passé de colline en colline; elles ont oublié leur bergerie.
7 All that found them consumed them: their enemies said, Let us not leave them alone, because they have sinned against the Lord: he that gathered their fathers [had] a pasture of righteousness.
Tous ceux qui les ont trouvées les ont détruites; leurs ennemis disaient: Ne les laissons pas aller, en punition de ce qu'elles ont péché contre le Seigneur. Celui qui a rassemblé leurs pères a des pâturages de justice.
8 Flee you out of the midst of Babylon, and from the land of the Chaldeans, and go forth, and be as serpents before sleep.
Maintenant sortez du milieu de Babylone; revenez de la terre des Chaldéens; soyez comme des dragons en face des agneaux.
9 For, behold, I stir up against Babylon the gatherings of nations out of the land of the north; and they shall set themselves in array against her: thence shall she be taken, as the dart of an expert warrior shall not return empty.
Car voilà que je vais susciter contre Babylone les rassemblements des peuples de l'aquilon, et ils marcheront contre elle, et ils la prendront; tel le javelot d'un guerrier habile n'est jamais sans effet en revenant du combat.
10 And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied.
Et la Chaldée sera livrée au pillage, et tous ceux qui en prendront une part seront rassasiés;
11 Because you rejoiced, and boasted, [while] plundering mine heritage; because you exulted as calves in the grass, and pushed with the horn as bulls.
Parce que vous vous êtes réjouis et glorifiés en pillant mon héritage, vous avez bondi comme des génisses dans la prairie, et vous avez frappé de vos cornes comme des taureaux.
12 Your mother is greatly ashamed; your mother that bore you for prosperity is confounded: [she is] the last of the nations, desolate,
Votre mère a été profondément confondue; cette mère, qui vous avait enfantés au milieu des biens, a été couverte de honte; elle est la dernière des nations et désolée;
13 by reason of the Lord's anger: it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be all a desolation; and every one that passes through Babylon shall scowl, and they shall hiss at all her plague.
Et à cause de la colère du Seigneur elle ne sera plus habitée. Elle ne sera plus partout qu'une solitude, et quiconque traversera Babylone sera troublé, et on la sifflera en voyant ses plaies.
14 Set yourselves in array against Babylon round about, all you that bend the bow; shoot at her, spare not your arrows,
Investissez Babylone, vous tous qui savez tendre un arc; lancez-lui des flèches, et ne les lui épargnez pas.
15 and prevail against her: her hands are weakened, her bulwarks are fallen, and her wall is broken down: for it is vengeance from God: take vengeance upon her; as she has done, do to her.
Et prévalez sur elle; ses mains sont énervées, ses créneaux détruits, ses remparts minés. La vengeance vient de Dieu, vengez-vous d'elle; traitez-la comme elle a traité les vaincus.
16 Utterly destroy seed out of Babylon, [and] him that holds a sickle in time of harvest: for fear of the Grecian sword, they shall return every one to his people, and every one shall flee to his own land.
Exterminez la semence de Babylone et celui qui tient la faucille au temps de la moisson; en face du glaive hellénique, chacun reviendra à son peuple, et chacun se réfugiera en sa terre.
17 Israel is a wandering sheep; the lions have driven him out: the king of Assyria first devoured him, and afterward this king of Babylon [has gnawed] his bones.
Israël était ma brebis égarée; les lions l'avaient chassée. Le roi Assur le premier l'avait dévorée, et le roi de Babylone ensuite en avait rongé les os.
18 Therefore thus says the Lord; Behold, I [will] take vengeance on the king of Babylon, and upon his land, as I took vengeance on the king of Assyria.
À cause de cela, ainsi dit le Seigneur: Voilà que je tire vengeance du roi de Babylone, et je punis sa terre comme j'ai puni le roi Assur,
19 And I will restore Israel to his pasture, and he shall feed on Carmel and on mount Ephraim and in Galaad, and his soul shall be satisfied.
Et je rétablirai Israël dans son pâturage, et il reviendra paître sur le Carmel et dans les montagnes d'Éphraïm, et en Galaad, et son âme sera rassasiée.
20 In those days, and at that time, they shall seek for the iniquity of Israel, and there shall be none; and for the sins of Juda, and they shall not be found: for I will be merciful to them that are left
En ces jours et en ces temps-là, on cherchera l'iniquité d'Israël, et il n'y en aura plus; on cherchera les péchés de Juda, et l'on n'en trouvera plus; parce que je serai propice à tous ceux qui me seront restés
21 on the land, says the Lord. Go up against it roughly, and against them that dwell on it: avenge, O sword, and destroy utterly, says the Lord, and do according to all that I command you.
Sur la terre, dit le Seigneur. Attaque sans merci les murs de Babylone et ceux qui l'habitent; punis-les avec le glaive; détruis-les, dit le Seigneur, et fais ce que je te commande.
22 A sound of war, and great destruction in the land of the Chaldeans!
Il y a une voix de guerre et une grande affliction en la terre des Chaldéens.
23 How is the hammer of the whole earth broken and crushed! How is Babylon become a desolation amongst the nations!
Comment a été rompu et broyé le marteau qui frappait toute la terre? Comment Babylone a-t-elle été désolée parmi les nations?
24 They shall come upon you, and you shall not know it, Babylon, that you will even be taken captive: you are found and taken, because you did resist the Lord.
Ils te donneront l'assaut, Babylone, et tu ne sauras comment tu as été surprise. Tu as été trouvée et prise, parce que tu as résisté au Seigneur.
25 The Lord has opened his treasury, and brought forth the weapons of his anger: for the Lord God [has] a work in the land of the Chaldeans.
Le Seigneur a ouvert son trésor, et il en a tiré les instruments de sa colère; et le Seigneur Dieu a frappé la terre des Chaldéens,
26 For her times are come: open you her storehouses: search her as a cave, and utterly destroy her: let there be no remnant of her.
Parce que leurs temps sont venus. Ouvrez ses réceptacles; fouillez-la comme une caverne; exterminez-la et qu'il ne reste rien d'elle.
27 Dry you up all her fruits, and let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them! for their day is come, and the time of their retribution.
Desséchez tous ses fruits, et que l'on emmène ses hommes pour les égorger. Malheur à eux; car leur jour est venu; il est venu le temps de leur rétribution.
28 A voice of men fleeing and escaping from the land of Babylon, to declare to Sion the vengeance [that comes] from the Lord our God.
La voix des fugitifs et de ceux qui se sont sauvés de Babylone annoncera à Sion que leur châtiment vient du Seigneur notre Dieu.
29 Summon many against Babylon, [even] every one that bends the bow: camp against her round about; let no one of her [people] escape: render to her according to her works; according to all that she has done, do to her: for she has resisted the Lord, the Holy God of Israel.
Appelez contre Babylone une multitude de guerriers, tous ceux qui tendent un arc; dressez votre camp autour de son enceinte; que nul des siens n'échappe; rétribuez-la selon ses œuvres: ce qu'elle a fait, faites-le-lui; car elle s'est élevée contre le Seigneur, contre le Dieu saint d'Israël.
30 Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her warriors shall be cast down, says the Lord.
À cause de cela, ses jeunes hommes tomberont dans ses places, et tous ses hommes de guerre succomberont, dit le Seigneur.
31 Behold, I am against you the haughty one, says the Lord: for your day is come, and the time of your retribution.
Voilà que je suis contre toi, superbe, dit le Seigneur; ton jour est venu; voilà le temps de ta rétribution,
32 And your pride shall fail, and fall, and there shall be no one to set it up again: and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all things round about her.
Et ton orgueil fléchira et il sera abattu, et nul ne le relèvera; et je mettrai le feu à ta forêt, et il dévorera tout ce qui l'entoure.
33 Thus says the Lord; The children of Israel and the children of Juda have been oppressed: all they that have taken them captive have oppressed them together; for they would not let them go.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Tous les fils d'Israël et tous les fils de Juda ont été opprimés; tous ceux qui les ont faits captifs les ont tenus sous l'oppression; et ils n'ont point voulu les renvoyer libres;
34 But their Redeemer is strong; the Lord Almighty is his name: he will enter into judgement with his adversaries, that he may destroy the earth;
Mais leur rédempteur est le Dieu fort; le Seigneur tout-puissant est son nom; il entrera en jugement avec ses ennemis pour délivrer la terre; et il aiguisera un glaive contre les habitants de Babylone;
35 and he will sharpen a sword against the Chaldeans, and against the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her nobles and upon her wise men;
Un glaive contre eux et les Chaldéens, contre tous leurs grands et tous leurs sages;
36 a sword upon her warriors, and they shall be weakened: a sword upon their horses, and upon their chariots:
Un glaive contre tous leurs guerriers, et ils seront énervés;
37 a sword upon their warriors and upon the mixed people in the midst of her; and they shall be as women: a sword upon the treasures, and they shall be scattered upon her water,
Un glaive contre leurs chevaux et leurs chars, contre leurs cavaliers et le peuple mêlé parmi eux, et ils seront comme des femmes; un glaive contre leurs trésors, et ils seront dispersés;
38 and they shall be ashamed: for it is a land of graven [images]; and in the islands, where they boasted.
Un glaive sur les eaux de Babylone; et les Chaldéens seront confondus, parce que leur terre est une terre d'idoles, ainsi que les îles dont ils faisaient leur orgueil.
39 Therefore shall idols dwell in the islands, and the young of monsters shall dwell in it: it shall not be inhabited any more for ever.
À cause de cela, des idoles monstrueuses habiteront dans leurs îles, et les filles des sirènes dans Babylone, et elle ne sera pas repeuplée dans les siècles des siècles.
40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities bordering upon them, says the Lord: no man shall dwell there, and no son of man shall sojourn there.
De même que Dieu a renversé Sodome et Gomorrhe et les villes voisines, dit le Seigneur, ainsi nul homme n'habitera en Babylone, et nul fils de l'homme n'y demeurera.
41 Behold, a people comes from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be stirred up from the end of the earth; holding bow and dagger:
Voilà qu'un peuple vient de l'aquilon; et une grande nation, et nombre de rois seront suscités des extrémités de la terre,
42 [the people] is fierce, and will have no mercy: their voices shall sound as the sea, they shall ride upon horses, prepared for war, like fire, against you, O daughter of Babylon.
Tenant l'arc et le glaive: ce peuple est hardi et il sera sans pitié. Leur voix retentira comme la mer; ils seront montés sur des chevaux exercés; à la guerre ils seront comme la flamme; et c'est toi qu'ils attaqueront, fille de Babylone.
43 The king of Babylon heard the sound of them, and his hands were enfeebled: anguish overcame him, pangs as of a woman in travail.
Le roi de Babylone a entendu leur rumeur, et ses mains en ont été énervées, et l'angoisse l'a saisi comme les douleurs de l'enfantement.
44 Behold, he shall come up as a lion from Jordan to Gaethan; for I will speedily drive them from her, and I will set all the youths against her: for who is like me? and who will resist me? and who is this shepherd who will stand before me?
Voilà que ce peuple va bondir comme un lion bondit du Jourdain à Étham; je détournerai promptement les miens de cette terre; je conduirai contre elle tout jeune homme: car qui est semblable à moi? Qui me résistera? Et quel est le pasteur qui se placera devant moi, face à face?
45 Therefore hear you the counsel of the Lord, which he has taken against Babylon; and his devices, which he has devised upon the Chaldeans inhabiting [it]: surely lambs of their flock shall be destroyed: surely pasture shall be cut off from them.
À cause de cela, écoutez le conseil que le Seigneur a décrété contre Babylone, et lu pensées qu'il a eues contre les Chaldéens qui l'habitent: Je jure que les agneaux de leurs brebis périront, et que leur pâturage sera désolé.
46 For at the sound of the taking of Babylon the earth shall quake, and a cry shall be heard amongst the nations.
Car au bruit de la prise de Babylone, la terre tremblera, et une clameur sera entendue parmi les nations.
