1 Cry aloud, and spare not; lift up your voice as with a trumpet, and declare to my people their sins, and to the house of Jacob their iniquities.
“জোরে চিৎকার করে বলো, রব সংযত কোরো না, তূরীধ্বনির মতোই তোমাদের কণ্ঠস্বর উচ্চগ্রামে তোলো। আমার প্রজাদের কাছে তাদের বিদ্রোহের কথা ঘোষণা করো, যাকোবের কুলের কাছে তাদের পাপের কথা জানাও।
2 They seek me day by day, and desire to know my ways, as a people that had done righteousness, and had not forsaken the judgement of their God: they now ask of me righteous judgement, and desire to draw near to God,
কারণ দিনের পর দিন তারা আমার অন্বেষণ করে, মনে হয় তারা যেন আমার পথগুলি জানার বিষয়ে আগ্রহী, তারা এমন জাতি, যারা ন্যায়সংগত কাজ করে এবং তাদের ঈশ্বরের আদেশগুলি পরিত্যাগ করেনি। তারা আমার কাছে সঠিক সিদ্ধান্তের কথা জানতে চায় এবং মনে হয় তারা যেন ঈশ্বরকে কাছে পেতে আগ্রহী।
3 saying, Why have we fasted, and you regard not? [why] have we afflicted our souls, and you did not know it? Nay, in the days of your fasts you find your pleasures, and all them that are under your power you wound.
তারা বলে, ‘কেন আমরা উপবাস করেছি, আর তুমি তা লক্ষ্য করোনি? কেন আমরা নিজেদের নতনম্র করেছি, অথচ তুমি তা দেখতে পাওনি?’ “তবুও, তোমরা উপবাসের দিনে, তোমাদের ইচ্ছামতো যা খুশি তাই করো, আর তোমাদের শ্রমিকদের শোষণ করো।
4 If you fast for quarrels and strifes, and strike the lowly with [your] fists, therefore do you fast to me as [you do] this day, so that your voice may be heard in crying?
তোমাদের উপবাস ঝগড়া ও বিবাদে শেষ হয়, দুষ্টতাপূর্ণ মুষ্টাঘাতে পরস্পরকে আঘাত করো। আজকের মতো তোমরা উপবাস করলে ঊর্ধ্বে তোমাদের রব শোনার আশা করতে পারবে না।
5 I have not chosen this fast, nor [such] a day for a man to afflict his soul; neither though you should bend down your neck as a ring, and spread under you sackcloth and ashes, neither thus shall you call a fast acceptable.
আমি কি এই ধরনের উপবাস মনোনীত করেছি? কেবলমাত্র একদিনের জন্য কি মানুষ নিজেকে নম্র করবে? এ কি কেবলমাত্র নলখাগড়ার মতো নিজের মাথা নত করা এবং চটে ও ভস্মে শয়ন করা? একেই কি তোমরা উপবাস বলো, সদাপ্রভুর কাছে গ্রহণযোগ্য একটি দিন বলো?
6 I have not chosen such a fast, says the Lord; but do you loose every burden of iniquity, do you untie the knots of hard bargains, set the bruised free, and cancel every unjust account.
“আমি কি এই ধরনের উপবাস মনোনীত করিনি: অন্যায় বিচারের শৃঙ্খল ভেঙে ফেলা ও জোয়ালের দড়িগুলি খুলে ফেলা, অত্যাচারিত ব্যক্তিদের মুক্ত করা ও প্রত্যেক জোয়াল ভেঙে ফেলা?
7 Break your bread to the hungry, and lead the unsheltered poor to your house: if you see one naked, clothe [him], and you shall not disregard the relations of your own seed.
এই কি নয়, যে ক্ষুধার্ত লোকেদের কাছে তোমার খাবার বণ্টন করা এবং দরিদ্র ভবঘুরে ব্যক্তিকে আশ্রয় দেওয়া— যখন তুমি উলঙ্গ ব্যক্তিকে দেখো, তাকে পোশাক পরিহিত করা, আর নিজের আপনজনদের কাছ থেকে মুখ ফিরিয়ে না নেওয়া?
8 Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your health shall speedily spring forth: and your righteousness shall go before you, and the glory of God shall compass you.
তখন তোমার আলো প্রত্যূষকালের মতো প্রকাশ পাবে, আর তুমি সত্বর আরোগ্যতা লাভ করবে, তখন তোমার ধার্মিকতা তোমার অগ্রগামী হবে, আর সদাপ্রভুর মহিমা তোমার পিছন দিকের রক্ষক হবেন।
9 Then shall you cry, and God shall listen to you; while you are yet speaking he will say, Behold, I am here. If you remove from you the band, and the stretching forth of the hands, and murmuring speech;
তখন তুমি ডাকলে সদাপ্রভু উত্তর দেবেন; তুমি সাহায্যের জন্য কাঁদলে তিনি বলবেন: এই যে আমি। “তুমি যদি অত্যাচারের জোয়াল, অর্থাৎ অঙ্গুলিতর্জন ও বিদ্বেষপূর্ণ কথাবার্তা দূর করো,
10 and [if] you give bread to the hungry from your heart, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall your light spring up in darkness, and your darkness [shall be] as noon-day:
যদি তুমি ক্ষুধার্তকে নিজের অন্ন দাও এবং অত্যাচারিত ব্যক্তির সব প্রয়োজন মিটিয়ে দাও, তখন তোমার জ্যোতি অন্ধকারে উদিত হবে এবং তোমার রাত্রি দুপুরবেলার মতো হবে।
11 and your God shall be with you continually, and you shall be satisfied according as your soul desires; and your bones shall be made fat, and shall be as a well-watered garden, and as a fountain [from] which the water has not failed.
আর সদাপ্রভু সবসময়ই তোমাকে পথ প্রদর্শন করবেন; তিনি শুষ্ক-ভূমিতে তোমার প্রাণ তৃপ্ত করবেন ও তোমার অস্থিকাঠামো শক্তিশালী করবেন। তুমি ভালোভাবে জল-সিঞ্চিত একটি বাগানের মতো হবে, তুমি হবে এমন এক উৎসের মতো, যার জল কখনও শুকায় না।
12 And your old waste desert [places] shall be built up, and your foundations shall last through all generations; and you shall be called a repairer of breaches, and you shall cause your paths between to be in peace.
তোমার লোকেরা প্রাচীনকালের ধ্বংসাবশেষকে পুনর্নির্মাণ করবে, এবং বহুকাল পূর্বের ভিত্তিমূলগুলি আবার গেঁথে তুলবে; তোমাকে বলা হবে ভগ্ন প্রাচীরগুলির মেরামতকারী, পথসমূহ ও বসবাসের স্থানগুলির পুনঃপ্রতিষ্ঠাকারী।
13 If you turn away your foot from the sabbath, so as not to do your pleasure on the holy days, and shall call the sabbaths delightful, holy to God; [if] you shall not lift up your foot to work, nor speak a word in anger out of your mouth,
“তুমি যদি সাব্বাথ-দিন লঙ্ঘন করা থেকে পা ফিরাও, আমার পবিত্র দিনে নিজের ইচ্ছামতো কাজ না করো, তুমি যদি সাব্বাথ-দিনকে আনন্দদায়ক ও সদাপ্রভুর পবিত্র দিনকে সম্মাননীয় আখ্যা দাও, আর যদি তুমি নিজের মনমতো পথে না গিয়ে সেদিনকে সম্মান করো, নিজের ইচ্ছামতো কিছু না করো ও অসার কথাবার্তা না বলো,
14 then shall you trust on the Lord; and he shall bring you up to the good places of the land, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken this.
তাহলে তুমি সদাপ্রভুতে তোমার আনন্দ খুঁজে পাবে, আর আমি তোমাকে দেশের সর্বোচ্চ স্থানে আরোহণ করাব এবং তোমার পিতৃপুরুষ যাকোবের অধিকারে উৎসব করতে দেব,” সদাপ্রভুর মুখ এই কথা বলেছেন।
