1 Bel has fallen, Nabo is broken to pieces, their graven images are gone to the wild beasts and the cattle: you take them packed up as a burden to the weary, exhausted, hungry, and [at the same time] helpless man;
Bel krümmt sich, Nebo sinkt zusammen; ihre Bilder sind dem Saumtiere und dem Lastvieh zuteil geworden; eure Tragbilder sind aufgeladen, eine Last für das ermüdete Vieh.
2 who will not be able to save themselves from war, but they themselves are led [away] captive.
Sie sind zusammengesunken, haben sich gekrümmt allzumal und haben die Last nicht retten können; und sie selbst sind in die Gefangenschaft gezogen.
3 Hear me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of Israel, who are borne [by me] from the womb, and taught [by me] from infancy, [even] to old age:
Höret auf mich, Haus Jakob und aller Überrest des Hauses Israel, die ihr von Mutterleibe an aufgeladen, von Mutterschoße an getragen worden seid!
4 I am [he]; and until you shall have grown old, I am [he]: I bear you, I have made, and I will relieve, I will take up and save you.
Und bis in euer Greisenalter bin ich derselbe, und bis zu eurem grauen Haare werde ich euch tragen; ich habe es getan, und ich werde heben, und ich werde tragen und erretten.
5 To whom have you compared me? see, consider, you that go astray.
Wem wollt ihr mich vergleichen und gleichstellen und mich ähnlich machen, daß wir gleich seien? -
6 They that furnish gold out of a purse, and silver by weight, will weigh it in a scale, and they hire a goldsmith and make idols, and bow down, and worship them.
Sie, die Gold aus dem Beutel schütten und Silber mit der Waage darwägen, dingen einen Schmelzer, daß er einen Gott daraus mache; sie beten an, ja, sie werfen sich nieder.
7 They bear it upon the shoulder, and go; and if they put it upon its place, it remains, it can’t move: and whoever shall cry to it, it can’t hear; it can’t save him from trouble.
Sie heben ihn auf, tragen ihn auf der Schulter und lassen ihn nieder auf seine Stelle, und er steht da: von seinem Orte weicht er nicht. Auch schreit man zu ihm, aber er antwortet nicht: niemand rettet er aus seiner Not. -
8 Remember you these things, and groan: repent, you that have gone astray, return in your heart;
Gedenket dessen und werdet fest, nehmet es zu Herzen, ihr Abtrünnigen!
9 and remember the former things [that were] of old: for I am God, and there is none other beside me,
Gedenket des Anfänglichen von der Urzeit her, daß ich Gott bin, und sonst ist keiner, daß ich Gott bin und gar keiner wie ich;
10 telling beforehand the latter events before they come to pass, and they are accomplished together: and I said, all my counsel shall stand, and I will do all things that I have planned:
der ich von Anfang an das Ende verkünde, und von alters her, was noch nicht geschehen ist; der ich spreche: Mein Ratschluß soll zustande kommen, und all mein Wohlgefallen werde ich tun;
11 calling a bird from the east, and from a land afar off, for the things which I have planned: I have spoken, and brought [him]; I have created and made [him]; I have brought him, and prospered his way.
der ich einen Raubvogel rufe von Osten her, aus fernem Lande den Mann meines Ratschlusses. Ich habe geredet, und werde es auch kommen lassen; ich habe entworfen, und werde es auch ausführen. -
12 Listen to me, you senseless ones, that are far from righteousness:
Höret auf mich, ihr Trotzigen, die ihr fern seid von Gerechtigkeit!
13 I have brought near my righteousness, and I will not be slow with the salvation that is from me: I have given salvation in Sion to Israel for glory.
Ich habe meine Gerechtigkeit nahe gebracht, sie ist nicht fern, und mein Heil zögert nicht; und ich gebe in Zion Heil, und Israel meine Herrlichkeit.
