Esias 36
1 Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of the reign of Ezekias, [that] Sennacherim, king of the Assyrians, came up against the strong cities of Judea, and took them.
૧હિઝકિયા રાજાની કારકિર્દીના અમલના ચૌદમા વર્ષે આશ્શૂરના રાજા સાન્હેરીબે યહૂદિયાનાં સર્વ કિલ્લાવાળાં નગરો ઉપર ચઢાઈ કરીને તેઓને જીતી લીધાં.
2 And the king of the Assyrians sent Rabsaces out of Laches to Jerusalem to king Ezekias with a large force: and he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the way of the fuller's field.
૨પછી આશ્શૂરના રાજાએ લાખીશથી રાબશાકેહને મોટા લશ્કર સહિત હિઝકિયા રાજાની પાસે યરુશાલેમ મોકલ્યો. તે ધોબીના ખેતરની સડક પર ઉપલા તળાવના ગરનાળા પાસે ઊભો રહ્યો.
3 And there went forth to him Heliakim the steward, the [son] of Chelcias, and Somnas the scribe, and Joach the [son] of Asaph, the recorder.
૩ત્યારે હિલ્કિયાનો દીકરો એલિયાકીમ જે રાજમહેલનો અધિકારી હતો તે, સચિવ શેબ્ના તથા આસાફનો દીકરો યોઆહ જે ઇતિહાસકાર હતો તે, તેની પાસે મળવાને બહાર આવ્યા.
4 And Rabsaces said to them, Say to Ezekias, Thus says the great king, the king of the Assyrians, Why are you secure?
૪રાબશાકેહએ તેઓને કહ્યું, “હિઝકિયાને કહેજો, આશ્શૂરના મહાન રાજા એવું પૂછે છે કે, ‘તું કોના પર ભરોસો રાખે છે?
5 Is war carried on with counsel and [mere] words of the lips? and now on whom do you trust, that you rebel against me?
૫હું પૂછું છું કે, માત્ર મુખની વાતો એ જ યુદ્ધને માટે સલાહ તથા પરાક્રમનું કામ સારે? તેં કોના ઉપર ભરોસો રાખીને મારી સામે બંડ કર્યું છે?
6 Behold, you trust on this bruised staff of reed, on Egypt: [as soon] as a man leans upon it, it shall go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharao king of Egypt and all that trust in him.
૬જો, તું આ ભાંગેલા બરુના દાંડા પર, એટલે મિસર પર, ભરોસો રાખે છે કે, જેના ઉપર જો કોઈ ટેકે તો તે તેની હથેળીમાં પેસીને તેને વીંધી નાખશે! મિસરનો રાજા ફારુન તેના પર ભરોસો રાખનાર સર્વ પ્રત્યે તેવો જ છે.
7 But if you say, We trust in the Lord our God;
૭પણ કદાચ તું મને કહેશે, “અમારા ઈશ્વર યહોવાહ પર અમે ભરોસો રાખીએ છીએ,” તો શું તે એ જ ઈશ્વર નથી કે જેમનાં ઉચ્ચસ્થાનો તથા વેદીઓને હિઝકિયાએ નષ્ટ કર્યાં છે અને યહૂદિયા અને યરુશાલેમને કહ્યું છે, “તમારે, યરુશાલેમમાં આ વેદી આગળ જ પ્રણામ કરવા?”
8 yet now make an agreement with my lord the king of the Assyrians, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you shall be able to set riders upon them.
૮તેથી હવે, હું તને બે હજાર ઘોડા આપું છું, તેઓ પર સવારી કરનાર માણસો પૂરા પાડવાની મારા માલિક આશ્શૂરના રાજાની સાથે તું શરત કર.
9 And how can you [then] turn to the face of the satraps? They that trust on the Egyptians for horse and rider, are [our] servants.
૯તમે કેમ કરીને મારા ઘણીના નબળામાં નબળા સરદારને પાછો ફેરવી શકો? કેમ કે તમારો ભરોસો મિસરના રથો અને ઘોડેસવારોમાં છે.
10 And now, Have we come up against this land to fight against it without the Lord? The Lord said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
૧૦તો હવે, શું હું યહોવાહની આજ્ઞા વિના આ જગાનો નાશ કરવા માટે તેના ઉપર ચઢી આવ્યો છું? યહોવાહે મને કહ્યું છે, “આ દેશ પર ચઢાઈ કરીને તેનો નાશ કર!”
11 Then Eliakim and Somnas and Joach said to him, Speak to your servants in the Syrian tongue; for we understand [it]: and speak not to us in the Jewish tongue: and therefore speak you in the ears of the men on the wall?
૧૧પછી એલિયાકીમે, શેબ્ના તથા યોઆહાઝે રાબશાકેહને કહ્યું, “મહેરબાની કરીને આ તારા ચાકરોની સાથે અરામી ભાષામાં બોલ; કેમ કે અમે તે સમજીએ છીએ. પણ કોટ પર જે લોકો છે તેઓના સાંભળતાં અમારી સાથે યહૂદી ભાષામાં બોલતો નહિ.”
12 And Rabsaces said to them, Has my lord sent me to your lord or to you, to speak these words? [has he] not [sent] me to the men that sit on the wall, that they may eat dung, and drink [their] water together with you?
૧૨પણ રાબશાકેહએ તેઓને કહ્યું, “શું મારા માલિકે એ વચનો ફક્ત તારા માલિકને તથા તને કહેવાને માટે મને મોકલ્યો છે? જે માણસો કોટ ઉપર બેઠેલા છે અને જેઓ તારી સાથે પોતાની વિષ્ટા ખાવાને તથા પોતાનું મૂત્ર પીવાને માટે નિર્માણ થયેલા છે, તેઓને કહેવાને માટે મને મોકલ્યો નથી?”
13 And Rabsaces stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jewish language, and said, Hear you the words of the great king, the king of the Assyrians:
૧૩પછી રાબશાકેહએ ઊભા રહીને મોટા અવાજે યહૂદી ભાષામાં પોકારીને કહ્યું, આશ્શૂરના મહાન રાજાધિરાજનાં વચનો સાંભળો;
14 thus says the king, Let not Ezekias deceive you with words: he will not be able to deliver you.
૧૪રાજા કહે છે: ‘હિઝકિયાથી તમે છેતરાશો નહિ; કેમ કે તે તમને છોડાવી શકશે નહિ.
15 And let not Ezekias say to you, That God will deliver you, and this city will not at all be delivered into the hand of the king of the Assyrians.
૧૫વળી “યહોવાહ આપણને જરૂર છોડાવશે; આ નગર આશ્શૂરના રાજાના હાથમાં જશે નહિ. એમ કહીને હિઝકિયા તમારી પાસે યહોવાહ પર ભરોસો કરાવે નહિ.”
16 Listen not to Ezekias: thus says the king of the Assyrians, If you wish to be blessed, come out to me: and you shall eat every one [of] his vine and his fig-trees, and you shall drink water out of your own cisterns:
૧૬હિઝકિયાની વાત સાંભળશો નહિ, કેમ કે આશ્શૂરનો રાજા એમ કહે છે: ‘મારી સાથે સલાહ કરીને મારે શરણે આવો. પછી તમારામાંના દરેક પોતાના દ્રાક્ષાવેલામાંથી અને પોતાની અંજીરીના ફળ ખાશો અને પોતાની ટાંકીનું પાણી પીશો.
17 until I come and take you to a land, like your own land, a land of corn and wine, and bread, and vineyards.
૧૭જ્યાં સુધી હું આવીને જે દેશ તમારા દેશના જેવો, ધાન્ય તથા દ્રાક્ષારસનો, રોટલી તથા દ્રાક્ષવાડીનો દેશ, તેમાં તમને લઈ જાઉં નહિ ત્યાં સુધી તમે એમ જ કરશો.’”
18 Let not Ezekias deceive you, saying, God will deliver you. Have the gods of the nations delivered each one his own land out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians?
૧૮‘યહોવાહ આપણને છોડાવશે,’ એમ કહીને હિઝકિયા તમને ગેરમાર્ગે ના દોરે. શું વિદેશીઓના કોઈ પણ દેવે પોતાના દેશને આશ્શૂરના રાજાના હાથમાંથી છોડાવ્યો છે?
19 Where is the god of Emath, and Arphath? and where is the god of Eppharuaim? have they been able to deliver Samaria out of my hand?
૧૯હમાથ અને આર્પાદના દેવો ક્યાં છે? સફાર્વાઈમના દેવો ક્યાં છે? શું તેઓએ મારા હાથમાંથી સમરુનને છોડાવ્યું છે?
20 Which is the god of all these nations, that has delivered his land out of my hand, that God should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
૨૦એ દેશોના સર્વ દેવોમાંથી કયા દેવે પોતાના દેશને મારા હાથમાંથી છોડાવ્યો છે કે, યહોવાહ યરુશાલેમને મારા હાથમાંથી છોડાવે?”
21 And they were silent, and none answered him a word; because the king had commanded that none should answer.
૨૧તેઓ છાના રહ્યા અને તેના જવાબમાં એક પણ શબ્દ બોલ્યા નહિ, કેમ કે રાજાની આજ્ઞા એવી હતી કે, “તેને ઉત્તર આપવો નહિ.”
22 And Heliakim the [son] of Chelcias, the steward, and Somnas the military scribe, and Joach the [son] of Asaph, the recorder, came in to Ezekias, having their garments tore, and they reported to him the words of Rabsaces.
૨૨પછી હિલ્કિયાનો દીકરો એલિયાકીમ જે મહેલનો અધિકારી હતો તે, લેખક શેબ્ના તથા આસાફનો દીકરો યોઆહ ઇતિહાસકાર પોતાના વસ્ત્ર ફાડીને હિઝકિયા પાસે પાછા આવ્યા અને રાબશાકેહના શબ્દો કહી સંભળાવ્યા.
