Osee 9

1 Rejoice not, O Israel, neither make merry, as [other] nations: for you have gone a-whoring from your God; you have loved gifts upon every threshing floor.

Ne te livre pas à la joie, Israël, à l’allégresse comme les peuples; car tu t’es prostitué loin de ton Dieu, tu as aimé le salaire de la prostituée, sur toutes les aires à blé.

2 The threshing floor and wine-press knew them not, and the wine disappointed them.

Ni l’aire ni la cuve ne les nourriront, et le vin nouveau les reniera.

3 They lived not in the Lord's land: Ephraim lived in Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things amongst the Assyrians.

Ils n’habiteront pas dans la terre de Yahweh; Ephraïm retournera en Égypte, et ils mangeront en Assyrie des aliments impurs.

4 They have not offered wine to the Lord, neither have their sacrifices been sweet to him, [but] as the bread of mourning to them; all that eat them shall be defiled; for their bread for their soul shall not enter into the house of the Lord.

Ils ne feront pas à Yahweh des libations de vin, et leurs sacrifices ne lui seront pas agréables; ce sera pour eux comme un pain de deuil, ceux qui en mangeront se rendront impurs; car leur pain sera pour eux-mêmes, il n’entrera pas dans la maison de Yahweh.

5 What will you do in the day of the general assembly, and in the day of the feast of the Lord?

Que ferez-vous au jour de solennité, au jour de la fête de Yahweh?

6 Therefore, behold, they go forth from the trouble of Egypt, and Memphis shall receive them, and Machmas shall bury them: [as for] their silver, destruction shall inherit it; thorns [shall be] in their tents.

Car voici qu’ils sont partis devant la dévastation, l’Égypte les recueillera. Memphis les ensevelira; leurs objets précieux d’argent, le chardon s’en emparera; l’épine envahira leurs tentes.

7 The days of vengeance are come, the days of your recompense are come; and Israel shall be afflicted as the prophet that is mad, as a man deranged: by reason of the multitude of your iniquities your madness has abounded.

Ils sont venus les jours du châtiment! ils sont venus les jours de la rétribution! Israël va le savoir. Le prophète est fou, l’homme de l’esprit est en délire! A cause de la grandeur de ton iniquité, et de ta grande hostilité.

8 The watchman of Ephraim [was] with God: the prophet is a crooked snare in all his ways: they have established madness in the house of God.

La sentinelle d’Ephraïm est avec mon Dieu; le prophète trouve un filet d’oiseleur sur toutes ses voies, la persécution dans la maison de son Dieu.

9 They have corrupted themselves according to the days of the hill: he will remember their iniquities, he will take vengeance on their sins.

Ils sont corrompus jusqu’au fond, comme aux jours de Gabaa; Yahweh se souviendra de leur iniquité, il punira leurs péchés.

10 I found Israel as grapes in the wilderness, and I saw their fathers as an early watchman in a fig tree: they went in to Beel-phegor, and were shamefully estranged, and the abominable became as the beloved.

Comme des raisins dans le désert, j’ai trouvé Israël; comme une primeur sur un jeune figuier, j’ai vu vos pères. Mais eux sont arrivés à Béelphégor; ils se sont consacrés à l’idole infâme, et sont devenus abominables comme l’objet de leur amour.

11 Ephraim has flown away as a bird; their glories from the birth, and the travail, and the conception.

La gloire d’Ephraïm s’envolera comme un oiseau; plus d’enfantement, plus de grossesse, plus de conception.

12 For even if they should rear their children, yet shall they be utterly bereaved: therefore also there is woe to them, [though] my flesh is of them.

Lors même qu’ils élèveraient leurs enfants, je les en priverai avant qu’ils soient devenus hommes; car malheur à eux aussi, si je me retire d’eux!

13 Ephraim, [even] as I saw, gave their children for a prey; yes, Ephraim [was ready] to bring out his children to slaughter.

Ephraïm, quand je porte mon regard du côté de Tyr, est planté dans une belle prairie; et Ephraïm va mener ses enfants à l’égorgeur!

14 Give them, O Lord: what will you give them? a miscarrying womb, and dry breasts.

Donne-leur, Yahweh... que leur donneras-tu?... Donne-leur un sein stérile, et des mamelles desséchées.

15 All their wickedness is in Galgal: for there I hated them: because of the wickedness of their practices, I will cast them out of my house, I will not love them any more: all their princes are disobedient.

Toute leur malice est a Galgal, car c’est là que je les ai pris en haine. A cause de la méchanceté de leurs actions, je les chasserai de ma maison; je n’aurai plus d’amour pour eux: tous leurs chefs sont des rebelles.

16 Ephraim is sick, he is dried up at his roots, he shall in no wise any more bear fruit: therefore even if they should beget [children], I will kill the desired [fruit] of their womb.

Ephraïm est frappé; sa racine est desséchée, ils ne porteront pas de fruit. Et si même ils enfantent, je ferai périr les fruits chéris de leurs entrailles.

17 God shall reject them, because they have not listened to him: and they shall be wanderers amongst the nations.

Mon Dieu les rejettera, parce qu’ils ne l’ont pas écouté, et ils seront errants parmi les nations.
