Daniel 3
1 In [his] eighteenth year Nabuchodonosor the king made a golden image, its height was sixty cubits, its breadth six cubits: and he set it up in the plain of Deira, in the province of Babylon.
Le roi Nabuchodonosor fit une statue d’or, dont la hauteur était de soixante coudées et la largeur de six coudées; il la dressa dans la plaine de Dura, dans la province de Babylone.
2 And he sent forth to gather the governors, and the captains, and the heads of provinces, chiefs, and princes, and those who were in authority, and all the rulers of districts, to come to the dedication of the image.
Et le roi Nabuchodonosor fit rassembler les satrapes, les intendants et les gouverneurs, les grands juges, les trésoriers, les légistes, les juges et tous les magistrats des provinces, pour qu’ils se rendissent à la dédicace de la statue qu’avait dressée le roi Nabuchodonosor.
3 So the heads of provinces, the governors, the captains, the chiefs, the great princes, those who were in authority, and all the rulers of districts, were gathered to the dedication of the image which king Nabuchodonosor had set up; and they stood before the image.
Ainsi s’assemblèrent les satrapes, les intendants et les gouverneurs, les grands juges, les trésoriers, les légistes, les juges et tous les magistrats des provinces pour la dédicace de la statue que le roi Nabuchodonosor avait dressée; et ils se tinrent devant la statue qu’avait dressée Nabuchodonosor.
4 Then a herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, you peoples, tribes, [and] languages,
Un héraut cria d’une voix forte: « Voici ce qu’on vous fait savoir, à vous, peuples, nations et langues:
5 at what hour you shall hear the sound of the trumpet, and pipe, and harp, and sackbut, and lute, and every kind of music, you shall fall down and worship the golden image which king Nabuchodonosor has set up.
Au moment où vous entendrez le son de la trompette, du chalumeau, de la cithare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, de la cornemuse et de toutes sortes d’instruments, vous vous prosternerez pour adorer la statue d’or que le roi Nabuchodonosor a dressée.
6 And whoever shall not fall down and worship, in the same hour he shall be cast into the burning fiery furnace.
Quiconque ne se prosternera pas et n’adorera pas la statue, sera jeté à l’instant au milieu de la fournaise de feu ardent. »
7 And it came to pass when the nations heard the sound of the trumpet, and pipe, and harp, and sackbut, and lute, and all kinds of music, all the nations, tribes, [and] languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image which king Nabuchodonosor had set up.
C’est pourquoi au montent où tous les peuples entendirent le son de la trompette, du chalumeau, de la cithare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion et de toutes les sortes d’instruments, tous les peuples, nations et langues se prosternèrent, adorant la statue d’or qu’avait dressée le roi Nabuchodonosor.
8 Then came near [certain] Chaldeans, and accused the Jews to the king, [saying],
Là-dessus, au moment même, des Chaldéens s’approchèrent et dirent du mal des Juifs.
9 O king, live for ever.
Ils prirent la parole et dirent au roi Nabuchodonosor: « O roi, vis à jamais! »
10 You, O king, has made a decree that every man who shall hear the sound of the trumpet, and pipe, and harp, sackbut, and lute, and all kinds of music,
Toi, ô roi, tu as porté un décret ordonnant que tout homme qui entendrait le son de la trompette, du chalumeau, de la cithare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, de la cornemuse et de toutes les sortes d’instruments, se prosterne pour adorer la statue d’or,
11 and shall not fall down and worship the golden image, shall be cast into the burning fiery furnace.
et que quiconque ne se prosternera pas pour l’adorer sera jeté au milieu de la fournaise de feu ardent.
12 There are [certain] Jews whom you has appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Sedrach, Misach, [and] Abdenago, who have not obeyed your decree, O king: they serve not your gods, and worship not the golden image which you have set up.
Or, il y a des juifs que tu as préposés aux affaires de la province de Babylone, Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago: ces hommes-là n’ont pas d’égard pour toi, ô roi; ils ne servent pas tes dieux et ils ne se prosternent pas devant la statue d’or que tu as dressée. »
13 Then Nabuchodonosor in wrath and anger commanded to bring Sedrach, Misach, and Abdenago: and they were brought before the king.
Alors Nabuchodonosor, irrité et furieux, ordonna d’amener Sidrac, Misac, et Abdénago; et ces hommes furent amenés devant le roi.
14 And Nabuchodonosor answered and said to them, Is it true, Sedrach, Misach, [and] Abdenago, that you serve not my gods, and worship not the golden image which I have set up?
Nabuchodonosor prit la parole et leur dit: « Est-ce à dessein, Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago, que vous ne servez pas mon dieu et que vous n’adorez pas la statue d’or que j’ai dressée!
15 Now then if you be ready, whenever you shall hear the sound of the trumpet, and pipe, and harp, and sackbut, and lute, and harmony, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the golden image which I have made; [well]: but if you worship not, in the same hour you shall be cast into the burning fiery furnace; and who is the God that shall deliver you out of my hand?
Maintenant si vous êtes prêts, au moment où vous entendrez le son de la trompette, du chalumeau, de la cithare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, de la cornemuse et de toutes les sortes d’Instruments, à vous prosterner pour adorer la statue que j’ai faite... Mais si vous ne l’adorez pas, vous serez jetés à l’instant même au milieu de la fournaise de feu ardent, et quel est le dieu qui vous délivrera de ma main? »
16 Then answered Sedrach, Misach [and] Abdenago and said to king Nabuchodonosor, We have no need to answer you concerning this matter.
Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago répondirent au roi et dirent: « Nabuchodonosor, sur ce point nous n’avons pas besoin de t’adresser une réponse.
17 For our God whom we serve is in the heavens, able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will rescue us from your hands, O king.
Si vraiment notre Dieu que nous servons peut nous délivrer, il nous délivrera de la fournaise de feu ardent et de ta main, ô roi.
18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we [will] not serve your gods, nor worship the image which you have set up.
Sinon, qu’il soit connu de toi, ô roi, que nous ne servirons pas tes dieux et que nous ne nous prosternerons pas devant la statue d’or que tu as dressée. »
19 Then Nabuchodonosor was filled with wrath, and the form of his countenance was changed towards Sedrach, Misach, and Abdenago: and he gave orders to heat the furnace seven times [more than usual], until it should burn to the uttermost.
Alors Nabuchodonosor fut rempli de fureur, et l’aspect de son visage fut changé envers Sidrac, Misac, et Abdénago. Reprenant la parole, il ordonna de chauffer la fournaise sept fois plus qu’on n’avait jugé convenable de le faire,
20 And he commanded mighty men to bind Sedrach, Misach, and Abdenago, and to cast [them] into the burning fiery furnace.
et il commanda à quelques-uns des plus vigoureux soldats qui étaient dans son armée de lier Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago et de les jeter dans la fournaise de feu ardent.
21 Then those men were bound with their coats, and caps, and hose, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace,
Alors ces hommes, avec leurs tuniques, leurs robes, leurs manteaux et leurs autres vêtements, furent liés et jetés dans la fournaise de feu ardent.
22 forasmuch as the king's word prevailed; and the furnace was made exceeding hot.
Comme l’ordre du roi était pressant et la fournaise extraordinairement chauffée, la flamme de feu tua ces hommes qui y avaient jeté Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago.
23 Then these three men, Sedrach, Misach, and Abdenago, fell bound into the midst of the burning furnace, and walked in the midst of the flame, singing praise to God, and blessing the Lord.
Et ces trois hommes, Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago tombèrent au milieu de la fournaise ardente, tout liés. Ce qui suit, je ne l’ai pas trouvé dans les livres hébreux.
24 And Nabuchodonosor heard them singing praises; and he wondered, and rose up in haste, and said to his nobles, Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? and they said to the king, Yes, O king.
Alors le roi Nabuchodonosor fut dans la stupeur et se leva précipitamment. Il prit la parole et dit à ses conseillers: « N’avons-nous pas jeté au milieu du feu trois hommes liés? » Ils répondirent et dirent au roi: « Certainement, ô roi! »
25 And the king said, But I see four men loose, and walking in the midst of the fire, and there has no harm happened to them; and the appearance of the fourth is like the Son of God.
Il reprit et dit: « Eh bien, moi, je vois quatre hommes sans liens, marchant au milieu du feu et n’ayant aucun mal; l’aspect du quatrième ressemble à celui d’un fils des dieux. »
26 Then Nabuchodonosor drew near to the door of the burning fiery furnace, and said, Sedrach, Misach, [and] Abdenago, you servants of the most high God, proceed forth, and come here. So Sedrach, Misach, [and] Abdenago, came forth out of the midst of the fire.
Puis Nabuchodonosor s’approcha de la porte de la fournaise de feu ardent; il prit la parole et dit: « Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago, serviteurs du Dieu Très-Haut, sortez et venez! » Alors Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago sortirent du milieu du feu.
27 Then were assembled the satraps, and captains, and heads of provinces, and the royal princes; and they saw the men, [and perceived] that the fire had not had power against their bodies, and the hair of their head was not burnt, and their coats were not scorched, nor was the smell of fire upon them.
Les satrapes, les intendants, les gouverneurs et les conseillers du roi, s’étant rassemblés, regardèrent ces hommes et virent que le feu n’avait eu aucun pouvoir sur leur corps, que les cheveux de leur tête n’avaient pas été brûlés, que leurs tuniques n’avaient pas subi de changement et qu’elles n’avaient pas l’odeur du feu.
28 And king Nabuchodonosor answered and said, Blessed be the God of Sedrach, Misach, [and] Abdenago, who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants, because they trusted in him; and they have changed the king's word, and delivered their bodies to be burnt, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
Nabuchodonosor prit la parole et dit: « Béni soit le Dieu de Sidrac, de Misac et d’Abdénago, lequel a envoyé son ange et délivré ses serviteurs qui se sont confiés en lui, qui ont transgressé l’ordre du roi et livré leur corps, pour ne servir et adorer aucun dieu sinon leur Dieu.
29 Therefore I publish a decree: Every people, tribe, [or] language, that shall speak reproachfully against the God of Sedrach, Misach, [and] Abdenago shall be destroyed, and their houses shall be plundered: because there is no other God who shall be able to deliver thus.
Ordre est donné de ma part que tout homme, à quelque peuple, nation ou langue qu’il appartienne, qui parlera mal du Dieu de Sidrac, de Misac et d’Abdénago sera coupé en morceaux et sa maison sera réduite en cloaque, parce qu’il n’y a pas d’autre dieu qui puisse sauver de la sorte.
30 Then the king promoted Sedrach, Misach, [and] Abdenago, in the province of Babylon, and advanced them, and gave them authority to rule over all the Jews who were in his kingdom.
Alors le roi fit prospérer Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago, dans la province de Babylone.
