< Chronicles I 27 >

1 Now the sons of Israel according to their number, heads of families, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and scribes ministering to the king, and for every affair of the king according to [their] divisions, [for] every ordinance of coming in and going out monthly, for all the months of the year, one division of them [was] twenty-four thousand.
This is the list of the Israelites—the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter concerning the divisions on rotating military duty each month throughout the year. There were 24,000 men in each division:
2 And over the first division of the first month [was] Isboaz the son of Zabdiel: in his division [were] twenty-four thousand.
Jashobeam son of Zabdiel was in charge of the first division, which was assigned the first month. There were 24,000 men in his division.
3 Of the sons of Tharez [one] was chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.
He was a descendant of Perez and chief of all the army commanders for the first month.
4 And over the division of the second month [was] Dodia the son of Ecchoc, and over his division [was] Makelloth also chief: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand, chief men of the host.
Dodai the Ahohite was in charge of the division for the second month, and Mikloth was the leader. There were 24,000 men in his division.
5 The third for the third month [was] Banaias the son of Jodae the chief priest: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The third army commander, as chief for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. There were 24,000 men in his division.
6 This Banaeas [was] more mighty than the thirty, and over the thirty: and Zabad his son [was] over his division.
This Benaiah was mighty among the Thirty and was over the Thirty, and his son Ammizabad was in charge of his division.
7 The fourth for the fourth month [was] Asael the brother of Joab, and Zabadias his son, and his brethren: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The fourth, for the fourth month, was Joab’s brother Asahel, and his son Zebadiah was commander after him. There were 24,000 men in his division.
8 The fifth chief for the fifth month [was] Samaoth the Jezraite: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
9 The sixth for the sixth month [was] Hoduias the son of Ekkes the Thecoite: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
10 The seventh for the seventh month [was] Chelles of Phallus of the children of Ephraim: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
11 The eighth for the eighth month [was] Sobochai the Usathite, [belonging] to Zarai: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hushathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
12 The ninth for the ninth month [was] Abiezer of Anathoth, of the land of Benjamin: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, a Benjamite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
13 The tenth for the tenth month [was] Meera the Netophathite, [belonging] to Zarai: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
14 The eleventh for the eleventh month [was] Banaias of Pharathon, of the sons of Ephraim: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
15 The twelfth for the twelfth month [was] Choldia the Netophathite, [belonging] to Gothoniel: and in his division [were] twenty and four thousand.
The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, from the family of Othniel. There were 24,000 men in his division.
16 And over the tribes of Israel, the chief for Ruben [was] Eliezer the son of Zechri: for Symeon, Saphatias the son of Maacha:
These officers were in charge of the tribes of Israel: Over the Reubenites was Eliezer son of Zichri; over the Simeonites was Shephatiah son of Maacah;
17 for Levi, Asabias the son of Camuel: for Aaron, Sadoc:
over Levi was Hashabiah son of Kemuel; over Aaron was Zadok;
18 for Juda, Eliab of the brethren of David: for Issachar, Ambri the son of Michael:
over Judah was Elihu, one of David’s brothers; over Issachar was Omri son of Michael;
19 for Zabulon, Samaeas the son of Abdiu: for Nephthali, Jerimoth the son of Oziel:
over Zebulun was Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; over Naphtali was Jerimoth son of Azriel;
20 for Ephraim, Ose the son of Ozia: for the half-tribe of Manasse, Joel the son of Phadaea:
over the Ephraimites was Hoshea son of Azaziah; over one of the half-tribes of Manasseh was Joel son of Pedaiah;
21 for the half-tribe of Manasse in the land of Galaad, Jadai the son of Zadaeas, for the sons of Benjamin, Jasiel the son of Abenner:
over the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead was Iddo son of Zechariah; over Benjamin was Jaasiel son of Abner;
22 for Dan, Azariel the son of Iroab: these [are] the chiefs of the tribes of Israel.
and over Dan was Azarel son of Jeroham. These were the leaders of the tribes of Israel.
23 But David took not their number from twenty years old and under: because the Lord said that he would multiply Israel as the stars of the heaven.
David did not count the men aged twenty or under, because the LORD had said that He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of the sky.
24 And Joab the son of Saruia began to number the people, and did not finish the work, for there was hereupon wrath on Israel; and the number was not recorded in the book of the chronicles of king David.
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David.
25 And over the king's treasures [was] Asmoth the son of Odiel; and over the treasures in the country, and in the towns, and in the villages, and in the towers, [was] Jonathan the son of Ozia.
Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the royal storehouses. Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the country, in the cities, in the villages, and in the fortresses.
26 And over the husbandmen who tilled the ground [was] Esdri the son of Chelub.
Ezri son of Chelub was in charge of the workers in the fields who tilled the soil.
27 And over the fields [was] Semei of Rael; and over the treasures of wine in the fields [was] Zabdi the son of Sephni.
Shimei the Ramathite was in charge of the vineyards. Zabdi the Shiphmite was in charge of the produce of the vineyards for the wine vats.
28 And over the olive yards, and over the sycamores in the plain country [was] Ballanan the Gedorite; and over the stores of oil [was] Joas.
Baal-hanan the Gederite was in charge of the olive and sycamore trees in the foothills. Joash was in charge of the stores of olive oil.
29 And over the oxen pasturing in Saron [was] Satrai the Saronite; and over the oxen in the valleys [was] Sophat the son of Adli.
Shitrai the Sharonite was in charge of the herds grazing in Sharon. Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of the herds in the valleys.
30 And over the camels [was] Abias the Ismaelite; and over the asses [was] Jadias of Merathon.
Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the donkeys.
31 And over the sheep [was] Jaziz the Agarite. All these [were] superintendents of the substance of king David.
Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks. All these officials were in charge of King David’s property.
32 And Jonathan, David's uncle by the father's side, [was] a counsellor, a wise man: and Jeel the son of Achami [was] with the king's sons.
David’s uncle Jonathan was a counselor; he was a man of insight and a scribe. Jehiel son of Hachmoni attended to the sons of the king.
33 Achitophel [was] the king's counsellor: and Chusi the chief friend of the king.
Ahithophel was the king’s counselor. Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.
34 And after this Achitophel Jodae the son of Banaeas [came] next, and Abiathar: and Joab [was] the king's commander-in-chief.
Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah, then by Abiathar. Joab was the commander of the king’s army.
