< Psalms 7 >

1 A Psalm of David, which he sang to the Lord because of the words of Chusi the Benjamite. O Lord my God, in thee have I trusted: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me.
A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord about Cush, the Benjamite. Lord my God, I take refuge in you. Deliver me, save me from all who pursue me;
2 Lest at any time [the enemy] seize my soul as a lion, while there is none to ransom, nor to save.
or like lions they will tear me to pieces, and rend me, past hope of rescue.
3 O Lord my God, if I have done this; (if there is unrighteousness in my hands; )
Lord, my God, if my life has been such if my hands have been stained with guilt,
4 if I have requited with evil those who requited me [with good]; may I then perish empty by means of my enemies.
if friends I paid back with evil, if I plundered my foes without cause,
5 Let the enemy persecute my soul, an take it; and let him trample my life on the ground, and lay my glory in the dust. (Pause)
may the enemy chase and find me, trample my life to the ground, my honour leave in the dirt! (Selah)
6 Arise, O Lord, in thy wrath; be exalted in the utmost boundaries of mine enemies: awake, O Lord my God, according to the decree which thou didst command.
Arise, Lord, in anger, against my foes rise in fury. Awake for my help: let justice be done.
7 And the congregation of the nations shall compass thee: and for this cause do thou return on high.
Gather the nations about you, and sit on your lofty throne,
8 The Lord shall judge the nations: judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to my innocence that is in me.
as the Lord, the judge of the peoples. Judge me, Lord, in my innocence and according to my integrity.
9 Oh let the wickedness of sinners come to an end; and [then] thou shalt direct the righteous, O God that searchest the hearts and reins.
Put an end to the wrong of the wicked, protect the righteous. Searcher of hearts and minds, righteous God.
10 My help is righteous, [coming] from God who saves the upright in heart.
God is my shield: he saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a righteous judge, and strong, and patient, not inflicting vengeance every day.
God is a just judge, constant in righteous anger.
12 If ye will not repent, he will furbish his sword; he has bent his bow, and made it ready.
He will sharpen his sword without fail, his bow is bent and ready,
13 And on it he has fitted the instruments of death; he has completed his arrows for the raging ones.
his deadly weapons are ready, his arrows he makes of flame.
14 Behold, he has travailed with unrighteousness, he has conceived trouble, and brought forth iniquity.
The enemy who conceives evil; pregnant with mischief, giving birth to lies,
15 He has opened a pit, and dug it up, and he shall fall into the ditch which he has made.
a pit they have made and dug; but into the hole that they made they will fall.
16 His trouble shall return on his own head, and his unrighteousness shall come down on his own crown.
On their own heads their mischief comes back; on their own skulls their violence comes down.
17 I will give thanks to the Lord according to his righteousness; I will sing to the name of the Lord most high.
I will give thanks to the Lord for his justice, and sing to the name of the Lord Most High.
