< Psalms 6 >

1 For the End, a Psalm of David among the Hymns for the eighth. O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath, neither chasten me in thine anger.
[For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David.] YHWH, do not rebuke me in your anger, neither discipline me in your wrath.
2 Pity me, O Lord; for I am weak: heal me, O Lord; for my bones are vexed.
Be gracious to me, YHWH, for I am frail. YHWH, heal me, for my bones are trembling.
3 My soul also is grievously vexed: but thou, O Lord, how long?
And my soul is greatly troubled. But you, YHWH, how long?
4 Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: save me for thy mercy's sake.
Return, YHWH. Deliver my soul. Save me because of your lovingkindness.
5 For in death no man remembers thee: and who will give thee thanks in Hades? (Sheol h7585)
For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks? (Sheol h7585)
6 I am wearied with my groaning; I shall wash my bed every night; I shall water my couch with tears.
I am weary with my groaning. Every night I drench my bed; I melt my couch with my tears.
7 Mine eye is troubled because of my wrath; I am worn out because of all my enemies.
My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
8 Depart from me, all ye that work iniquity; for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for YHWH has heard the sound of my weeping.
9 The Lord has hearkened to my petition; the Lord has accepted my prayer.
YHWH has heard my plea. YHWH has accepted my prayer.
10 Let all mine enemies be put to shame and sore troubled: let them be turned back and grievously put to shame speedily.
May all my enemies be ashamed and greatly terrified. May they turn back, suddenly ashamed.
