Joshua 6
1 Now Jericho was closely shut up and besieged, and none went out of it, and none came in.
എന്നാൽ ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കൾനിമിത്തം യെരീഹോപട്ടണത്തിന്റെ കവാടം ഭദ്രമായി അടയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു; ആരും പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയില്ല, അകത്തു കയറിയതുമില്ല.
2 And the Lord said to Joshua, Behold, I deliver Jericho into thy power, and its king in it, [and its] mighty men.
അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ യോശുവയോടു കൽപ്പിച്ചു: “ഞാൻ യെരീഹോവിനെ, അതിന്റെ രാജാവിനോടും യോദ്ധാക്കളോടുമൊപ്പം നിന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
3 And do thou set the men of war round about it.
ആയുധധാരികളായ എല്ലാ യോദ്ധാക്കളെയുംകൂട്ടി പട്ടണത്തെ ഒരുപ്രാവശ്യം ചുറ്റുക. ആറുദിവസം ഇപ്രകാരം ചെയ്യുക.
4 And it shall be [that] when ye shall sound with the trumpet, all the people shall shout together.
മുട്ടാടുകളുടെ കൊമ്പുകൊണ്ടുള്ള കാഹളം വഹിച്ച ഏഴു പുരോഹിതന്മാർ പേടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ നടക്കട്ടെ. ഏഴാംദിവസം ഈ പുരോഹിതന്മാർ കാഹളങ്ങൾ മുഴക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് പട്ടണത്തെ ഏഴുപ്രാവശ്യം ചുറ്റണം.
5 And when they have shouted, the walls of the city shall fall of themselves; and all the people shall enter, each one rushing direct into the city.
അവർ നീട്ടി ഊതുന്ന കാഹളനാദം നിങ്ങൾ കേൾക്കുമ്പോൾ യോദ്ധാക്കൾമുഴുവനും ഉച്ചത്തിൽ ആർപ്പിടേണം; അപ്പോൾ പട്ടണമതിൽ തകരും; സൈന്യത്തിന് നേരേ അതിലേക്കു കയറാൻ കഴിയും.”
6 And Joshua the [son] of Naue went in to the priests, and spoke to them, saying,
നൂന്റെ മകനായ യോശുവ പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ വിളിച്ച് അവരോട്, “യഹോവയുടെ ഉടമ്പടിയുടെ പേടകം എടുക്കുക. അതിനുമുമ്പിൽ മുട്ടാടുകളുടെ കൊമ്പുകൊണ്ടുള്ള കാഹളം പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഏഴു പുരോഹിതന്മാർ നടക്കട്ടെ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
7 And let seven priests having seven sacred trumpets proceed thus before the Lord, and let them sound loudly; and let the ark of the covenant of the Lord follow.
“പുറപ്പെടുക! യഹോവയുടെ പേടകത്തിനുമുമ്പിൽ ആയുധധാരികളായ പട്ടാളക്കാരെ നിർത്തിക്കൊണ്ട് പട്ടണത്തിനുചുറ്റും പടനീക്കുക” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം സൈന്യത്തിന് ഉത്തരവിട്ടു.
8 Charge the people to go round, and encompass the city; and let your men of war pass on armed before the Lord.
യോശുവ ജനത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞുതീർന്നപ്പോൾ, യഹോവയ്ക്കുമുമ്പിൽ ആട്ടിൻകൊമ്പുകൊണ്ടുള്ള കാഹളംപിടിച്ചുനിന്ന ഏഴു പുരോഹിതന്മാർ കാഹളമൂതി മുന്നോട്ടു പോകുകയും യഹോവയുടെ ഉടമ്പടിയുടെ പേടകം അവരെ പിൻതുടരുകയും ചെയ്തു.
9 And let the men of war proceed before, and the priests bringing up the rear behind the ark of the covenant of the Lord [proceed] sounding the trumpets.
ആയുധധാരികളായ പട്ടാളക്കാർ കാഹളം ഊതിയ പുരോഹിതന്മാർക്കു മുമ്പിൽ അണിയായി നടന്നു; പിന്നിലുള്ള പട്ടാളക്കാർ പേടകത്തെ പിൻതുടർന്നു; ഈ സമയമൊക്കെയും കാഹളനാദം മുഴങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
10 And Joshua commanded the people, saying, Cry not out, nor let any one hear your voice, until he himself declare to you the time to cry out, and then ye shall cry out.
എന്നാൽ യോശുവ സൈന്യത്തോട്, “യുദ്ധാരവം പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കരുത്; ശബ്ദവും ഉയർത്തരുത്; ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോട് ആർപ്പിടാൻ പറയുന്ന ദിവസംവരെ ഒരു വാക്കുപോലും ഉച്ചരിക്കരുത്. അതിന്റെശേഷം ആർപ്പിടാം!” എന്നു കൽപ്പിച്ചു.
11 And the ark of the covenant of God having gone round immediately returned into the camp, and lodged there.
അങ്ങനെ യഹോവയുടെ പേടകം പട്ടണത്തെ ഒരുപ്രാവശ്യം ചുറ്റി. അതിനുശേഷം സൈന്യം പാളയത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങി, രാത്രി അവിടെ ചെലവഴിച്ചു.
12 And on the second day Joshua rose up in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the covenant of the Lord.
യോശുവ പിറ്റേദിവസം അതിരാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു; പുരോഹിതന്മാർ യഹോവയുടെ പേടകം എടുത്തു.
13 And the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets went on before the Lord; and afterwards the men of war went on, and the remainder of the multitude went after the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
ആട്ടിൻകൊമ്പുകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഏഴു കാഹളം പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുനിന്ന ഏഴു പുരോഹിതന്മാർ കാഹളം ഊതിക്കൊണ്ട് യഹോവയുടെ പേടകത്തിനുമുമ്പിൽ അണിനടന്നു. ആയുധധാരികളായ പുരുഷന്മാർ അവരുടെമുന്നിലും പിന്നിലുള്ള പട്ടാളക്കാർ യഹോവയുടെ പേടകത്തിനു പിന്നിലുമായി അണിനടന്നു; കാഹളങ്ങൾ മുഴങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
14 And all the rest of the multitude compassed the city six times from within a short distance, and went back again into the camp; this they did six days.
അങ്ങനെ രണ്ടാംദിവസവും അവർ പട്ടണത്തെ ഒരുപ്രാവശ്യം ചുറ്റിയിട്ട് പാളയത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു. അവർ ആറുദിവസം ഇപ്രകാരം ചെയ്തു.
15 And on the seventh day they rose up early, and compassed the city on that day seven times.
ഏഴാംദിവസം അവർ പ്രഭാതത്തിൽ എഴുന്നേറ്റു; അതേരീതിയിൽത്തന്നെ പട്ടണത്തിനുചുറ്റും ഏഴുപ്രാവശ്യം അണിനടന്നു; അന്നുമാത്രം അവർ ഏഴുപ്രാവശ്യം പട്ടണം ചുറ്റി.
16 And it came to pass at the seventh circuit the priests blew the trumpets; and Joshua said to the children of Israel, Shout, for the Lord has given you the city.
ഏഴാംപ്രാവശ്യം പുരോഹിതന്മാർ കാഹളം ഊതിയപ്പോൾ യോശുവ ജനത്തോടു കൽപ്പിച്ചു: “ആർപ്പിടുക! യഹോവ നിങ്ങൾക്കു പട്ടണം തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.
17 And the city shall be devoted, it and all things that are in it, to the Lord of Hosts: only do ye save Raab the harlot, and all things in her house.
ഈ പട്ടണവും ഇതിലുള്ളതൊക്കെയും യഹോവയ്ക്ക് അർപ്പിതമായിരിക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും രാഹാബ് എന്ന ഗണിക നാം അയച്ച ചാരപ്രവർത്തകരെ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് അവളും അവളുടെ വീട്ടിൽ അവളോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവരുംമാത്രം ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കട്ടെ.
18 But keep yourselves strictly from the accursed thing, lest ye set your mind upon and take of the accursed thing, and ye make the camp of the children of Israel and accursed thing, and destroy us.
എന്നാൽ അർപ്പിതവസ്തുക്കളിൽനിന്ന് അകന്നുനിൽക്കുക; അവയിൽ എന്തെങ്കിലും കൈവശപ്പെടുത്തി നിങ്ങൾക്കുതന്നെ നാശം വരുത്തിവെക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കരുത്. അങ്ങനെചെയ്താൽ ഇസ്രായേൽപാളയത്തിനു നിങ്ങൾതന്നെ നാശവും അത്യാഹിതവും വരുത്തിവെക്കും.
19 And all the silver, or gold, or brass, or iron, shall be holy to the Lord; it shall be carried into the treasury of the Lord.
വെള്ളിയും സ്വർണവും വെങ്കലവും ഇരുമ്പുംകൊണ്ടുള്ള പാത്രങ്ങളെല്ലാം യഹോവയ്ക്കു വിശുദ്ധം; അതെല്ലാം അവിടത്തെ ഖജനാവിൽ ചേർക്കണം.”
20 And the priests sounded with the trumpets: and when the people heard the trumpets, all the people shouted at once with a loud and strong shout; and all the wall fell round about, and all the people went up into the city:
പുരോഹിതന്മാർ കാഹളം ഊതി, സൈന്യം ആർപ്പിട്ടു; കാഹളനാദംകേട്ട് സൈന്യം ഉച്ചത്തിൽ ആർപ്പിട്ടപ്പോൾ പട്ടണമതിൽ തകർന്നുവീണു. ഓരോരുത്തരും പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു നേരേകയറി, പട്ടണം പിടിച്ചടക്കി.
21 and Joshua devoted it to destruction, and all things that were in the city, man and woman, young man and old, and calf and ass, with the edge of the sword.
അവർ പട്ടണം യഹോവയ്ക്കു സമർപ്പിച്ചു. പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും ബാലന്മാരെയും വൃദ്ധന്മാരെയും, ആട്, മാട്, കഴുത എന്നിവയെയും, ഇങ്ങനെ പട്ടണത്തിൽ ജീവനോടുണ്ടായിരുന്ന സകലത്തെയും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാൽ സംഹരിച്ചു.
22 And Joshua said to the two young men who had acted a spies, Go into the house of the woman, and bring her out thence, and all that she has.
ദേശത്തെ പര്യവേക്ഷണംചെയ്യാൻ അയച്ച രണ്ടു പുരുഷന്മാരോട് യോശുവ, “ഗണികയുടെ വീട്ടിൽച്ചെന്ന്, അവളോടു നിങ്ങൾ ശപഥംചെയ്തതുപോലെ, അവളെയും അവൾക്കുള്ള സകലത്തെയും പുറത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരിക” എന്ന് ഉത്തരവിട്ടു.
23 And the two young men who had spied out the city entered into the house of the woman, and brought out Raab the harlot, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and her kindred, and all that she had; and they set her without the camp of Israel.
അങ്ങനെ ചാരപ്രവർത്തകരായിരുന്ന യുവാക്കൾ ചെന്ന് രാഹാബിനെയും അവളുടെ പിതാവിനെയും മാതാവിനെയും സഹോദരന്മാരെയും അവൾക്കുള്ള സകലത്തെയും പുറത്തുകൊണ്ടുവന്നു. അവളുടെ കുടുംബത്തെ മുഴുവൻ പുറത്തുകൊണ്ടുവന്ന് ഇസ്രായേൽപാളയത്തിനു പുറത്ത് ഒരു സ്ഥലത്ത് പാർപ്പിച്ചു.
24 And the city was burnt with fire with all things that were in it; only of the silver, and gold, and brass, and iron, they gave to be brought into the treasury of the Lord.
ഇതിനുശേഷം അവർ പട്ടണം മുഴുവനും അതിലുള്ള സകലതും അഗ്നിക്കിരയാക്കി. എന്നാൽ വെള്ളിയും സ്വർണവും വെങ്കലവും ഇരുമ്പുംകൊണ്ടുള്ള പാത്രങ്ങളെല്ലാം അവർ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലെ ഖജനാവിൽ വെച്ചു.
25 And Joshua saved alive Raab the harlot, and all the house of her father, and caused her to dwell in Israel until this day, because she hid the spies which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
രാഹാബ് എന്ന ഗണിക, യെരീഹോവിനെ പര്യവേക്ഷണംചെയ്യാൻ അയച്ച പുരുഷന്മാരെ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് അവളെയും അവളുടെ കുടുംബത്തെയും അവൾക്കുള്ള സകലത്തെയും യോശുവ രക്ഷിച്ചു; അവൾ ഇന്നുവരെയും ഇസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ഇടയിൽ പാർക്കുന്നു.
26 And Joshua adjured [them] on that day before the Lord, saying, Cursed [be] the man who shall build that city: he shall lay the foundation of it in his first-born, and he shall set up the gates of it in his youngest son. And so did Hozan of Baethel; he laid the foundation in Abiron his first-born, and set up the gates of it in his youngest surviving son.
അക്കാലത്തു യോശുവ ഈ ശപഥംചെയ്തു: “ഈ യെരീഹോപട്ടണം വീണ്ടും പണിയാൻ തുനിയുന്ന മനുഷ്യൻ യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ: “അവൻ അതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനമിടുമ്പോൾ അവന്റെ മൂത്തമകൻ നഷ്ടമാകും; അതിന്റെ കവാടം വെക്കുമ്പോൾ അവന്റെ ഇളയമകനും നഷ്ടമാകും.”
27 And the Lord was with Joshua, and his name was in all the land.
അങ്ങനെ യഹോവ യോശുവയോടുകൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ കീർത്തി ദേശമെല്ലാം പരന്നു.
