Ecclesiastes 5
1 Keep thy foot, whensoever thou goest to the house of God; and [when thou art] near to hear, let thy sacrifice [be] better than the gift of fools: for they know not that they are doing evil.
Ten cuidado cuando entres en la casa de Dios. Es mejor escuchar y responder en lugar de ofrecer sacrificios sin sentido. La gente que hace tal cosa ni siquiera sabe que está actuando mal.
2 Be not hasty with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be swift to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven above, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
No te precipites, y piensa antes de hablar con Dios. Porque Dios está en el cielo y tú en la tierra, así que sé breve.
3 For through the multitude of trial a dream comes; and a fool's voice is with a multitude of words.
Cuando te preocupas demasiado, tienes pesadillas; cuando hablas demasiado, dices tonterías.
4 Whenever thou shalt vow a vow to God, defer not to pay it; for [he has] no pleasure in fools: pay thou therefore whatsoever thou shalt have vowed.
Cuando haces un voto a Dios, con una maldición sobre ti si no lo cumples, no te demores en cumplirlo, pues no le agrada el comportamiento insensato. Así que cumple lo que has prometido.
5 [It is] better that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
Más vale no hacer ningún voto que hacer un voto que no se cumpla.
6 Suffer not thy mouth to lead thy flesh to sin; and say not in the presence of God, It was an error: lest God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the works of thy hands.
No dejes que tu boca te haga pecar. Y no le digas al sacerdote que tu voto fue un error, pues ¿por qué enemistarte con Dios rompiendo tu promesa? Podría hacer caer sobre ti tu propia maldición.
7 For [there is evil] in a multitude of dreams and vanities and many words: but fear thou God.
Ciertamente hay muchos sueños, preguntas sobre su significado y muchas ideas diferentes, pero tú debes seguir a Dios.
8 If thou shouldest see the oppression of the poor, and the wresting of judgment and of justice in the land, wonder not at the matter: for [there is] a high one to watch over him that is high, and high ones over them.
Si ves gente pobre en algún lugar siendo oprimida, o la verdad y la justicia violada, no te escandalices por ello, porque cada funcionario es responsable ante otros más altos, y hay funcionarios por encima de ellos también.
9 Also the abundance of the earth is for every one: the king [is dependent on] the tilled field.
Sin embargo, lo que la tierra produce es para todos, incluso el rey se beneficia de lo que se cultiva.
10 He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver: and who has loved gain, in the abundance thereof? this is also vanity.
La gente que ama el dinero nunca tiene suficiente dinero; los que aman la riqueza nunca tienen suficientes ingresos. Esto también es muy temporal y tiene poco sentido.
11 In the multitude of good they are increased that eat it: and what virtue has the owner, but the right of beholding [it] with his eyes?
Cuanto más ganas, más gastos tienes. ¡Sólo pareciera que tuvieras más!
12 The sleep of a servant is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but to one who is satiated with wealth, there is none that suffers him to sleep.
Los que trabajan duro duermen bien, tengan poco o mucho que comer, pero los ricos poseen tanto que no descansan.
13 There is an infirmity which I have seen under the sun, [namely], wealth kept for its owner to his hurt.
Aquí he observado algo que es realmente enfermizo: Las personas que acumulan dinero se perjudican a sí mismas.
14 And that wealth shall perish in an evil trouble: and [the man] begets a son, and there is nothing in his hand.
Ponen su dinero en malas inversiones y lo pierden todo. Cuando nacemos, no traemos nada al mundo.
15 As he came forth naked from his mother's womb, he shall return back as he came, and he shall receive nothing for his labour, that it should go [with him] in his hand.
Cuando morimos, nos vamos tan desnudos como cuando nacimos, sin llevarnos nada de todo lo que hemos trabajado.
16 And this is also an evil infirmity: for as he came, so also shall he return: and what is his gain, for which he vainly labours?
¡Esto también me enferma! ¿Qué gana la gente, trabajando para el viento?
17 Yea, all his days are in darkness, and in mourning, and much sorrow, and infirmity, and wrath.
Viven su vida en la oscuridad, muy frustrados, enfermos y resentidos.
18 Behold, I have seen good, that it is a fine thing [for a man] to eat and to drink, and to see good in all his labour in which he may labour under the sun, [all] the number of the days of his life which God has given to him: for it is his portion.
Pero yo observé que lo bueno y lo correcto es comer, beber y hallar placer en el trabajo que Dios nos da aquí en esta vida. Este es el regalo de Dios para nosotros.
19 Yea, and [as for] every man to whom God has given wealth and possessions, and has given him power to eat thereof, and to receive his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
Además, a todos los que Dios les da riquezas y posesiones, les da también la capacidad de disfrutar de estos dones, de estar agradecidos por lo que se les da y de disfrutar del trabajo que hacen. Esto también es un regalo de Dios para nosotros.
20 For he shall not much remember the days of his life; for God troubles him in the mirth of his heart.
De hecho, estas personas tienen poco tiempo para pensar en la vida porque Dios las mantiene ocupadas con todo lo que las hace felices.
