Proverbs 1
1 The wise sayings of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel.
Les Proverbes de Salomon, fils de David, et Roi d'Israël.
2 To have knowledge of wise teaching; to be clear about the words of reason:
Pour connaître la sagesse et l'instruction, pour entendre les discours d'intelligence;
3 To be trained in the ways of wisdom, in righteousness and judging truly and straight behaviour:
Pour recevoir une leçon de bon sens, de justice, de jugement et d'équité.
4 To make the simple-minded sharp, and to give the young man knowledge, and serious purpose:
Pour donner du discernement aux simples, et de la connaissance et de l'adresse aux jeunes gens.
5 (The wise man, hearing, will get greater learning, and the acts of the man of good sense will be wisely guided: )
Le sage écoutera, et deviendra mieux appris, et l'homme intelligent acquerra de la prudence;
6 To get the sense of wise sayings and secrets, and of the words of the wise and their dark sayings.
Afin d'entendre les discours sentencieux, et ce qui est élégamment dit; les paroles des sages, et leurs énigmes.
7 The fear of the Lord is the start of knowledge: but the foolish have no use for wisdom and teaching.
La crainte de l'Eternel est la principale science; [mais] les fous méprisent la sagesse et l'instruction.
8 My son, give ear to the training of your father, and do not give up the teaching of your mother:
Mon fils, écoute l'instruction de ton père, et n'abandonne point l'enseignement de ta mère.
9 For they will be a crown of grace for your head, and chain-ornaments about your neck.
Car ce seront des grâces enfilées ensemble autour de ta tête, et des colliers autour de ton cou.
10 My son, if sinners would take you out of the right way, do not go with them.
Mon fils, si les pécheurs te veulent attirer, ne t'y accorde point.
11 If they say, Come with us; let us make designs against the good, waiting secretly for the upright, without cause;
S'ils disent: Viens avec nous, dressons des embûches pour tuer; épions secrètement l'innocent, quoiqu'il ne nous en ait point donné de sujet;
12 Let us overcome them living, like the underworld, and in their strength, as those who go down to death; (Sheol h7585)
Engloutissons-les tout vifs, comme le sépulcre; et tout entiers, comme ceux qui descendent en la fosse; (Sheol h7585)
13 Goods of great price will be ours, our houses will be full of wealth;
Nous trouverons toute sorte de biens précieux, nous remplirons nos maisons de butin;
14 Take your chance with us, and we will all have one money-bag:
Tu y auras ton lot parmi nous, il n'y aura qu'une bourse pour nous tous.
15 My son, do not go with them; keep your feet from their ways:
Mon fils, ne te mets point en chemin avec eux; retire ton pied de leur sentier.
16 For their feet are running after evil, and they are quick to take a man's life.
Parce que leurs pieds courent au mal, et se hâtent pour répandre le sang.
17 Truly, to no purpose is the net stretched out before the eyes of the bird:
Car [comme] c'est sans sujet que le rets est étendu devant les yeux de tout ce qui a des ailes;
18 And they are secretly waiting for their blood and making ready destruction for themselves.
Ainsi ceux-ci dressent des embûches contre le sang de ceux-là, et épient secrètement leurs vies.
19 Such is the fate of everyone who goes in search of profit; it takes away the life of its owners.
Tel est le train de tout homme convoiteux de gain [déshonnête], lequel enlèvera la vie de ceux qui y sont adonnés.
20 Wisdom is crying out in the street; her voice is loud in the open places;
La souveraine Sapience crie hautement au dehors, elle fait retentir sa voix dans les rues.
21 Her words are sounding in the meeting-places, and in the doorways of the town:
Elle crie dans les carrefours, là où on fait le plus de bruit, aux entrées des portes, elle prononce ses paroles par la ville:
22 How long, you simple ones, will foolish things be dear to you? and pride a delight to the haters of authority? how long will the foolish go on hating knowledge?
Sots, [dit-elle], jusques à quand aimerez-vous la sottise? Et jusqu'à quand les moqueurs prendront-ils plaisir à la moquerie, et les fous auront-ils en haine la science?
23 Be turned again by my sharp words: see, I will send the flow of my spirit on you, and make my words clear to you.
Etant repris par moi, convertissez-vous; voici, je vous donnerai de mon Esprit en abondance, et je vous ferai connaître mes paroles.
24 Because your ears were shut to my voice; no one gave attention to my out-stretched hand;
Parce que j'ai crié, et que vous avez refusé [d'ouïr]; parce que j'ai étendu ma main, et qu'il n'y a eu personne qui y prit garde;
25 You were not controlled by my guiding, and would have nothing to do with my sharp words:
Et parce que vous avez rejeté tout mon conseil, et que vous n'avez point agréé que je vous reprisse;
26 So in the day of your trouble I will be laughing; I will make sport of your fear;
Aussi je me rirai de votre calamité, je me moquerai quand votre effroi surviendra.
27 When your fear comes on you like a storm, and your trouble like a rushing wind; when pain and sorrow come on you.
Quand votre effroi surviendra comme une ruine, et que votre calamité viendra comme un tourbillon; quand la détresse et l'angoisse viendront sur vous;
28 Then I will give no answer to their cries; searching for me early, they will not see me:
Alors on criera vers moi, mais je ne répondrai point; on me cherchera de grand matin, mais on ne me trouvera point.
29 For they were haters of knowledge, and did not give their hearts to the fear of the Lord:
Parce qu'ils auront haï la science, et qu'ils n'auront point choisi la crainte de l'Eternel.
30 They had no desire for my teaching, and my words of protest were as nothing to them.
Ils n'ont point aimé mon conseil; ils ont dédaigné toutes mes répréhensions.
31 So the fruit of their way will be their food, and with the designs of their hearts they will be made full.
Qu'ils mangent donc le fruit de leur voie, et qu'ils se rassasient de leurs conseils.
32 For the turning back of the simple from teaching will be the cause of their death, and the peace of the foolish will be their destruction.
Car l'aise des sots les tue, et la prospérité des fous les perd.
33 But whoever gives ear to me will take his rest safely, living in peace without fear of evil.
Mais celui qui m'écoutera, habitera en sûreté, et sera à son aise sans être effrayé d'aucun mal.
